The Northwest Council for Computer Education (NCCE) hosted their 39th annual conference at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center in Seattle, Washington on March 2-5, 2010. Panther Lake Elementary, the newest school in the Kent School District, is state-of-the-art in and out of the classroom. It is also home to the new 4th, 5th, and 6th grade Freedom of Access program.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service were in Ridgetown on (Dec. 2) to hold a training session at the local high school. The exercise consisted of a mock scenario of a school shooting, and showcased the local police forces new SPEAR program (School/Police Emergency Action Response). Members of the Critical Incident Response Team took part in the scenario, which included students and staff from Ridgetown District High School and volunteers who acted as the mock shooting suspects. The Chatham-Kent Daily Post and other members of the media had the opportunity to get a first-hand and up-close look at the event, which was the first of its kind in Chatham-Kent. Daily Post Editor Aaron Hall reports.
