This is a 2010 Kentucky Derby Analysis that just breaks down some of the horses past runnings. There will be another more in depth analysis to come. My Wagers for the derby as of now are: Win: Creative Cause Exacta: Creative cause, Union rages, Gemologist, Dullahan and Hansen boxed Trifecta: Same as above Boxed Trifecta: Creative Cause / Union Rages, Gemologist, Dullahan, Hansen/ All Bets are subject to change because of post positions!
Hansen was there, edging out a hard charging Union Rags. Dullahan ran, too, as did Daddy Long Legs, Creative Cause, Take Charge Indy, Alpha, Optimizer and Prospective. The same horses are expected to line up again on Saturday in the Kentucky Derby, just six months after the Breeders' Cup Juvenile on the same Churchill Downs track set the stage for the Run for the Roses. While no horse has distinguished itself as a clear-cut favorite ahead of the post-position draw on Wednesday, as many as nine horses who'll start Saturday also participated in the premier race for 2-year-olds."When you look back at the race, it was a key," Union Rags trainer Michael Matz said. "And, a lot of those horses have done well. I think this is a pretty competitive crop."
Churchill Downs oddsmaker Mike Battaglia will wait until post positions are drawn Wednesday to decide whether he will establish Bodemeister or Union Rags as the early favorite for the 138th Kentucky Derby. "If Bodemeister has a bad draw, then it's got to be Union Rags," Battaglia told USA TODAY Sports. "And if Union Rags has a bad draw, it would be the other way around." He noted that the rail would be an extremely difficult position to overcome with a full 20-horse field anticipated.

A team of WEBN producers, reporters and videographers travelled to Louisville, Kentucky in May 2011 to cover the Kentucky Derby. Our show was based on the experience leading up to "the greatest two minutes in sports." We covered everything from the post position draw and the training leading up to the big day to the creation of the coveted rose garland and the annual Taste of the Derby. All of these experience, of course, lead up to the two key races of the weekend; the Kentucky Oaks and the Kentucky Derby. The WEBN team was immersed in the wonderful world of horse racing, speaking to everyone from leading jockeys like Rosie Napravnik and Javier Castellano, owners like Bobby Flay and Arthur Hancock, trainers, and fans. All the footage in The Derby Experience was shot by our team in Louisville, Kentucky and at Suffolk Downs in Boston, Massachusetts, with the exception of the race footage of the Kentucky Derby and the Kentucky Oaks, which we were given permission to use by NBC who held the exclusive rights.

Running away from 19 rivals, Big Brown dominated Saturday's 134th running of the Kentucky Derby, winning by four and three-quarters lengths in a race that was marred by the death of Eight Belles, who finished second. Big Brown became the first horse since 1915 to win the Kentucky Derby with three or fewer starts coming into the race. He started from the unfavorable outside post position No. 20, but neither that nor his lack of racing experience proved to be a problem. After the race, the filly Eight Belles collapsed after pulling up. According to Dr. Larry Bramlage, among the on-call veterinarians Saturday at Churchill Downs, she broke both of her front ankles and was euthanized on the track. Eight Belles is trained by Larry Jones, who won the Oaks with Proud Spell. www.nytimes.com
On Twitter: @longisland495 GEC The recent merger agreement between NBC and Comcast consolidated their respective assets into one company. Their TV properties aren't immune to this. With the merger, NBC Sports became one with Comcast's sports properties including Versus, the Golf Channel, and Comcast regional sports nets. The combined financial assets of NBC and Comcast's sporting assets allowed them to form a new entity...the NBC Sports Group. Initially, Dick Ebersol would be in charge of the entity, but fears over NBC losing the Olympics rights to ESPN and a contract dispute with Philly led Ebersol to step down from his post. Mark Lazarus assumed that position. NBC later announced that they inked a new $4.6 billion deal to keep the Olympics (and televise more events live) through 2020. With Comcast now wrapped around its finger, NBC's Olympic coverage can be taken to the next level. With the major nets starting to put their names on 24 hour sports nets as CBS did earlier this year with their "CBS Sports Network", NBC decided to raise the eye one. Starting this January 2012, the Peacock will now be found on a 24 hour sports channel. The NBC Sports Network will become reality this January. This rebranding act for Versus isn't their first rodeo. They were once the Outdoor Life Network (OLN) and then morphed into Versus. The Versus name put more of an emphasis on mainstream sports using their NHL coverage as their centerpiece. The OLN name is still alive and kickin' in ...

Facebook: www.facebook.com The goat racing season has kicked off with the Kentucky Goat Derby, watch as these two great jockeys have an exhilerating run at M'ownah tracks. Be sure to keep coming back as there are multiple races throughout the season. Note: All goats are treated as pets out here as this was started for fun, there is absolutely no abuse with these animals. Also we realize there is a danger in putting too much weight on a goat, which is why we don't ride them too often (One or two short runs, every two weeks), and we slowly train their muscles so they can hold the weight, we are being very careful with this.

While Flashpoint may not always be the best behaved colt, he certainly has speed, which he demonstrated today with a sharp debut victory at Aqueduct Racetrack. He becomes the first horse in 2011 to join the New York Watch list, which profiles up-and-comers that have recently cleared the maiden ranks at Aqueduct, Belmont Park, and Saratoga Race Course. Away alertly from post position one, Flashpoint cleared on the lead and was tracked by odds-on favorite Simba's Story through fractions of 22.89 and 45.98. Jockey Cornelio Velasquez shook the reins at Flashpoint as they turned for home, and the colt answered by drawing away to a 6 ¼-length score, completing the six furlongs on the inner track in 1:09.68. "He's a big, strapping colt and is as strong as a bull," said John Fort, president of Peachtree Stable, the operation that owns Flashpoint. "He's not a hyper horse. He won't flip on top of you, but he will run right over you." Fort bought Flashpoint, a 3-year-old son of two-time Grade 1-winning sprinter Pomeroy, for $100000 at the 2009 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. "He was probably the last thing I was looking for because I usually don't buy sprinters," said Fort. "He was kind of a big bully as a yearling, but you could tell that he was going to grow into that frame. I decided to take a shot on a horse that was different than the type I usually buy, which is usually more of a classic-type horse." Even though Fort saw the colt misbehave before he entered into the sales ...
