Breaking news out of Santa Barbara, CA where KEY News has confirmed that three people have been killed in an accident involving a semi-truck that slammed into their home early this morning. Authorities on the scene say a father, mother, and a 7-year-old son were found dead inside the rubble of the home that collapsed after being struck by that semi-truck. Crews are still searching for the possibility that one more child may be in the home. As KEY News first reported live at 6:50 am the big rig was traveling down Highway 154 near San Marcos Road when it crashed into a home in the 4000 block of State Street. It is believed the brakes may have gone out on the big rig, causing it to slam into the home. The driver of the semi was pulled from the rig. He was bloody but apparently suffered no injuries. Witnesses say they saw the big-rig traveling at a high rate of speed. It then swerved off the 154 and down into the Hope Ranch Inn, where it failed to hit anything until it came into contact with that home several hundred feet later. The truck was hauling two loads of gravel.

KEYT TV news story highlighting difference in positions and electioneering between Assembly candidates Susan Jordan and Das Williams. Especially featured is how Mr. Williams continues his support of the PXP offshore oil extraction deal that State officials have concluded cannot have end date because Federal law prevails the terms of the private deal that Mr. Williams supports. From the KEYT website description: The battle is taking place in the 35th Assembly District primary race between democrats, Das Williams and Susan Jordan. The latest issue involves a flyer sent out by Jordan's campaign, claiming Das Williams supports offshore oil drilling. And it uses the British Petroleum accident in the Gulf as one of their images. Williams strongly opposes offshore oil projects, but recently favored the PXP project off Lompoc. A project that would which allow more drilling now, and then the removal of platforms at a later date. The democratic party of Santa Barbara County says it opposes the flyer using the BP disaster in it, and similar campaigning. However, Susan Jordan supporters say it is not dishonest. There was a city council meeting on 4.30.10 to allow or disprove of a 23000 survey to find out how Santa Barbara citizens would react to a optional fee for usage of single-use bags (ie paper or plastic). This prop should be approved for a ballot measure and the people can vote on it, the survey is not necessary. The reason it is optional is because if you choose to use a reusable bag the fee would not apply to you. Unfortunately this city council has 3 conservative Republicans that kept this measure from seeing the light of day. They said they needed to see more information (although there was a plethora) about this issue, but truthfully their minds were decided before they walked into the courtroom.
