The south Florida shark attack at Stuart Beach killed one kite boarder who was kite boarding at an unguarded portion of Stuart Beach, a quarter www.sodahead.com mile from other beach goers. A lifeguard discovered Stephen Howard Schafer after he had been attacked by a series of baby great white sharks. Stephen died shortly after arriving at a nearby Florida hospital.

This is the first reported death by shark off South Florida's Atlantic coast in 5 years. Stephen Howard Schafer, 38 years old, of Stuart Florida, in about 4:15 pm was kite surfing to the south just before the shark attacked him. A spokeswoman from Martin County Sheriffs Office, Rhonda Irons, said that lifeguard through his binoculars directly spotted the man floating about a quarter-mile offshore in an unguarded stretch of ocean. After that, the lifeguard directly paddled to Stephen Howard Schafer on a rescue board then pulled the Stuart man away from the sharks and took him back to Stuart Beach / shore. Unfortunately, although the rescue workers had given the man CPR as soon as possible until the paramedics brought him to Martin Memorial Hospital, but finally the man died at the hospital.
