A TripAdvisor™ TripWow video of a travel blog to San Antonio de los Cobres, Argentina by TravelPod blogger Seankervin. See this TripWow and more at tripwow.tripadvisor.com Kite Buggy racing in the Salt Flats " Kite Buggy racing involves finding a flat, windy location, gripping a kite (a small parachute about 6 feet wide), strapping yourself into a three wheeled buggy - and then hanging on for dear life as the wind propels you at incredible speeds. It feels a lot like water skiing - you are pulled along by a rope with two handles. However, not only do you have to control your buggy (and avoid big rocks or falling into streams) but you also have to drive the boat (in this case, the kite). It took a lot more skill than I thought. But we took two days to learn. One of the big things to do in Salta is the Train to the Clouds, which is like the Ski train in Colorado - it goes through spectacular scenery to 14000 feet and you can get a nice lunch while tunnels, massive viaducts, and spectacular scenery whiz by. Our plan was to take the same route but a little more extreme. We took a 4x4 along the dirt road that follows the tracks and would stop at key points to learn the basics of controlling the kites and the buggies. Step one: learn to fly the kite. Kite is such an understatement for this thing. The word Kite evokes images of kids in the park smiling and laughing. These kites were a lot more serious. Six feet wide and built like a parachute, a good gust of wind would pull hard ...

Declaring that "Indonesia is a part of me," President Obama today offered personal reflections of the place that "shaped his childhood" and the place that he, as president, hopes will now help shape the Muslim world with their example of democracy, development and pluralism. Drawing up images of his youth spent living in Jakarta -- from "flying kites, running along paddy fields, catching dragonflies and buying satay and baso from street vendors" -- the President stuck a nostalgic tone, remembering the spirit of the people he said helped him learn to love the country. "As a young boy, I was coming to a different world. But the people of Indonesia quickly made me feel at home," Obama said from the University of Indonesia this morning, "The old men and women who welcomed us with smiles; the children who made a foreigner feel like a neighbor; and the teachers who helped me learn about the wider world: The president moved to Jakarta in 1967 then only 6 years-old from Hawaii when his mother married an Indonesian man name Lolo Soetoro. He spent for years in Jakarta living in a small house with a mango tree out front, before ultimately moving back to Hawaii. "So much has changed in the four decades since I boarded a plane to move back to Hawaii. If you asked me -- or any of my schoolmates who knew me back then -- I don't think any of us could have anticipated that I would one day come back to Jakarta as President of the United States." As president, Mr. Obama came today to ...
Well here's my fandub for the Gazette's Naraku!! I love that song!! *__* hope u guys enjoy my fail-ish cover and my lyrics I put together~ ('-^)b ______ Lyircs: "Burning Kites" - - - - - Dreaming of the unknown paths I follow. Making images repeat through in pain. The silence of my aching eyes cry on. Folded in my hands are worthless love notes written, Now they shall burn in the hands of hell. Breaking, breaking, all these kites that once held up my wishes Shot down one by one they will crash and burn. As my world caves inside over me, My wishing kites will shatter from their frames. It doesn't hurt to see them break in, For my heart is the one that burns with them. It's just a rest from you. Dreaming of the unknown paths I follow. Making images repeat through in pain. Cold as ice the heart continues to beat on. Once again bound away from my sanity. Breaking , breaking, all these kites that once held up my wishes Shot down one by one they will crash and burn. As my world caves inside over me, My wishing kites will shatter from their frames. It doesn't hurt to see them break in, For my heart burns with them. The darkness will light my guidance So nothing can be undone again, once more. I know watching my kites burn, watching them cry in deep pain. I have lost a part of me, but now I am strong. Never will I forget my kites, yet I will miss all their light. I know what was done was just right.

This is the is the latest, and last, in my series of Calvin & Hobbes kites, and it's taken me near on six months, on and off. At times I felt my spirits flagging, thinking I'd taken on too complex a design on too small a kite. I had this design in mind from the very start, way back when I was building the kite featured in my first kite making film (check out my vimeo channel for more kiting films vimeo.com ) but the complexity was daunting and I didn't feel able to tackle it back then. I'm glad I waited. I learned a lot making those earlier Calvin & Hobbes kites; filming and writing about the process helped too - and so, back at the start of 2010 I started work on this one. Strictly speaking it's not a Calvin & Hobbes kite, as Hobbes doesn't appear, and Calvin's appearance is a brief daydream. In typical Calvin fashion he's ignoring his teacher whilst sitting as his school desk; instead of the tedious business of learning he's off traveling the galaxy as his alter ego, Spaceman Spiff. I've tried to tell a story with this kite. In much the same way as Bill Watterson used to in the original comic strip, this kite has a distinct narrative; the three sections following on from each other. Foil kites can't be seen in the round when flying. The back presents one side or the other, depending on the direction of flight, effectively separating imagery into two distinct halves; you never get to see both. Whereas the front foreshortens images into one complete whole. So with this ...
"Fish Bowl Kites" pokes a little humor at the Annual Berkeley Kite Festival held every year towards the end of July at the Cesar E. Chavez Park near the Berkeley Marina. Last year I got there too late and faced a huge traffic jam and little parking left. So this year I decided to go for the extra telephoto shot and avoid the parking hassles. How about 2.7 miles away and engaging the digital zoom to nearly 100x? Hence the heavy distortion introduced by the optical compression and atmospherics, which reminded me of looking at the kites as if they were swimming under water. So much for those gloriously saturated wide angle close ups I was hoping for last year. More info about the Berkeley Kite Festival at this link: www.highlinekites.com TECHNICAL DETAILS: The was shot with a Sony HDR-CX500v (HD) camcorder with the digital zoom engaged at nearly 100x. The camera was mounted on my dash board to optimize stability while I was parked at Ford Point, Richmond, California about 2.7 miles north west of the festival as the crow flies. The second to last shot was taken with a tripod at Sunset Point (near Marina Bay in Richmond) at about 2.5 miles away which explains the shift in perspective showing more of the downtown Oakland skyline in the background. I used Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9 to edit the images, added a bit of "spherical" distortion and a "cookie cutter" for the oval border to enhance a fish bowl appearance. The remaining shots are unaltered. The sound design by Vaypid ...
Oh, Gosh, I couldn't imagine how hard would have been this work!! Anyway, I'm quite satisfied with the result, and I sincerely hope you will like it. This song is from Kites' soundtrack, the hindi movie with Hrithik Roshan that I saw days ago (and that bewitched me! *__*). I was captured by the rythm and the mood of this song and I read the translation... I thought immediately that Darcy might have written it!! It IS Darcy!! So, yesterday night I finished this video (and I dreamed of Matthew MacFadyen.. oh my God, what a beautiful dream!! ^_^) and this morning I've added the english subtitles, because I want you to understand what the song says. So... enjoy!! ^_^ ------------------------ I don't know why, but uploading the video on YouTube, the images go later than the song... -_- I've uploaded the video on Megaupload, so if you want to see the video as I really edited it, please download it. My first attempt at producing my own video. It is made up of some of the many images I've taken of my experiences as a Sport Kite Novice. Everything I know about kiting I've learned from Miguel, a master kiter for many years. If you're into kiting and hang with the crowd, you might see some other people in this mix besides Miguel that you recognize. Can you name the kites at the end? For you Miguel, mi amor, Muchas Gracias.
Our 2010 kite line up is stronger than ever, presenting Ritual, an all around kite with low end, and huge range, but this video is just our teaser, more images to follow, so enjoy! Everyone has their rituals they follow, now you can have another ritual on the water.

French, 1894-1986 Jacques Henri Lartigue (June 13, 1894 - September 12, 1986) was a French photographer and painter. Born in Courbevoie (a city outside of Paris), he is most famous for his stunning photos of automobile races, planes and fashionable Parisian women from the turn of the century. He started taking photos when he was 6, his subject matter being primarily his own life and the people and activities in it. So, as a child he photographed his friends and family at play running and jumping, racing wheeled soap boxes, building kites, gliders and aeroplanes, climbing the Eiffel Tower and so on. He also photographed many famous sporting events, including automobile races such as the Coupe Coupe Gordon Bennett and the French Grand Prix, early flights by aviation pioneers including Gabriel Voisin, Louis Blériot, and Roland Garros, and tennis players such as Suzanne Lenglen at the French Open tennis championships. Although little seen in that format, many of his earliest and most famous photographs were originally taken in stereo, but he also produced vast numbers of images in all formats and media including glass plates in various sizes, some of the earliest autochromes, and of course film in 2 1/4 square and 35mm. His greatest achievement was his set of around 120 huge photograph albums, which compose the finest visual autobiography ever produced. At only 16 years old, Dan James is the current British U17 kitesurfing Champion.Living in Bournemouth (South of England, by the coast), Dan takes part in competitions across the country and has achieved 5 top placings out of just 7 competitions. Dan takes some time out from his busy schedule to talk exclusively with LA Muscle.TV about his career highlights to date, his passion for this fairly new sport, which is now much more of a lifestyle for him than a hobby, and how anyone interested in trying something new can go about getting the right equipment and training to harness the power of the wind whilst skimming along the water on nothing more than a board with a straps and a fin. With only two years of kitesurfing behind him, and already being the best in the country, Dan is now looking for international sponsorship to further his talent at larger events around the world. Google Tech Talks August 15, 2008 ABSTRACT We seek to build a large collection of images with ground truth labels to be used for object detection and recognition research. We used the "Tom Sawyer fence painting" approach, and developed a web-based tool that allows easy image annotation and instant sharing of such annotations. Using this annotation tool, we have collected a large dataset that spans many object categories, often containing multiple instances over a wide variety of images. We quantify the contents of the dataset and compare against existing state of the art datasets used for object recognition and detection. We have applied this dataset to scene and object recognition. Current object recognition systems can only recognize a limited number of object categories; scaling up to many categories is the next challenge. We seek to build a system to recognize and localize many different object categories in complex scenes. We achieve this through a simple approach: by matching the input image, in an appropriate representation, to images in a large training set of labeled images. Due to regularities in object identities across similar scenes, the retrieved matches provide hypotheses for object identities and locations. We build a probabilistic model to transfer the labels from the retrieval set to the input image. We demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach and study algorithm component contributions using held-out test sets from the LabelMe database. Joint work ...

Filmed, edited & produced by Doug Blane Filmed using Lumix Panasonic DMC-LX2 / Leica D-LUX 3 (video option) The Lumix LX2 doesn't perform very well in Video mode in bright snow conditions. This produces red & blue casts. I used auto white balance & also set the WB manually, but this didn't help. The RAW stills pictures I took with the Lumix LX2 were not effected by the bright snow conditions, they have passed Alamy QC. I guess that this is a limitation with the Lumix LX2 CCD in video mode.
