Rachel John, Extreme Textiles, broke records by knitting with a 1000 strands simultaneously! This video shows the set up of the event and the event itself. This event took place at the Southhill Park Unravel Textiles exhibition in October 2006. - - - - - - - It is a challenge for all of us to take the waste products that our society produces and to put it to good use. This video was made in order to stimulate that process. The comments on this video have been an insight into how people view things when taken out of context. For instance - should I be knitting blankets for charity? I do much charitable work - I cannot increase the hours on this as I wouldn't have time to earn the basics for living. I am happy if this stimulates others to find waste and turn it into blankets for needy. Especially as - using my tools - you can make blankets in a twentieth of the time it takes to make one in squares. If you feel there should be more knitting for charity, join your local group, set one up if there isn't one, and see what you can achieve. You may find a whole new community that brings you joy and a feeling of worthiness. I am one person with the same number of hours in my day as you and they are pretty full already! No yarn was wasted in the making of this installation - the yarn will be put to good use when the piece has finished circulating as a 1st in the world example of taking multi strand to the limits. - - - - - Over half the yarn in the installation was deemed as waste ...

This is just a quickie to show what a psso or "Pass Slip Stitch Over" is. It's a common abbreviation in knitting patterns and another way to decrease. Note: The video indicates that you slip 1, knit 1, and then pass the first stitch over the second. When you "knit 1" - you can also "purl 1" as that is what is shown in the video is a purl. It depends on wha your pattern is calling for; a knit stitch or a purl stitch. For more info on increasing/decreasing stitches, check out: cyberseams.com This video does not teach you how to knit. Patti Moreno show you how to finish knitting a baby hat with Angora and gives it to Paulo. Check out www.urbansustainableliving.com and subscribe our free magazine. This video has been transcribed and is available in many languages using the (cc) button. Full Text How to Knit a Baby Hat Part 2 So I am almost done with Paulos hat. I can start decreasing the hat now. I have knitted up to eight inches in the 2 x2 width pattern and for my first decrease round, I am going to knit two, pearl two, knit two and then pearl two together and I am going to take that pattern and knit that in one round. And now we pearl two together, then we knit two, we pearl two. So I have completed one round. Now my second decrease round the pattern is the following. Knit two, pearl two together, knit two and then pearl one. So I am going to take that pattern and continue it for one whole round. All right, so I have completed the second decrease round. So the next thing I have to do is start decreasing all the knit stitches. So far I decreased the pearl stitches. Now, I am going to decrease the knit stitches. So I am going to knit two, pearl one, knit two together, pearl one. So did you get the idea? Do you get the pattern of how we are decreasing round after round until we got down to ten stitches? So knit one, knit two, pearl one, knit two together. So the last thing I have to do is now weave this piece of string into each stitch. And I am just playing it through just like that. Two count in two ...

If you can't afford to buy the real thing then why not knit one. That's what 22-year-old art student Lauren Porter did. For her university degree show, Lauren decided to knit a life-size Ferrari. Mainly modelled on an F355, it took her 10 months and 12 miles of yarn to put the Ferrari together. Lauren got friends and family to help knit approximately 240 red woollen squares that she then assembled and strapped over a metal frame in the shape of the car. The bright-red Ferrari got instant attention when Lauren exhibited it at her degree show. What followed was an even better exposure to the media and potential buyers. www.itnsource.com Reuters 19427/06

In this video from www.knittinghelp.com , Amy shares with you a simple method for creating a button hole in a knitted work. If the button you're using is 4 stitches wide, make a 3-stitch buttonhole (as demonstrated). For a 5-stitch-wide button, make a 4-stitch buttonhole, etc. Step 1 -- work to where you want buttonhole to begin. Bring yarn to front; slip 1 purl-wise, bring yarn to back. Step 2 -- Slip 1 purl-wise, pass first slipped stitch over second. (repeat this part 2 more times--passing over 3 stitches total, for a 3-stitch buttonhole) Place last stitch back on left needle. Turn work. Step 3 -- Cast on 4 stitches (for the 3 stitches you bound off, plus 1) using the cable cast-on method. Step 4 -- Turn work (so RS is facing). Bring yarn to back; slip first st of left needle onto right needle and pass last CO st over it. ....You're done! Work to end of the row, or to the next buttonhole!
