THE KOALAS - WILLIE DIXON - 29/08/09 ADELANTO DE DVD
2 Koalas fighting in an enclosure at the zoo, captured by my friend Mike on his trip to Sydney Australia. Koala has a very low metabolic rate and normally rests for about 16 to 18 hours a day, sleeping most of that time. As seen in this video, when disturbed, Koalas are known to be violent, their teeth and claws capable of causing considerable injury.

The Zoo's koala breeding program has been one of the most successful in the country.

KOALA WARS: IN KOLOR Business experts say "stick to what you do best, and only do that" - and what kuddlingkoalas.net did best was deliver a single image of two koalas locked in an impossibly cute embrace. CEO Craig Avenson (Kyle Walters) abandoned a lucrative kareer in investment banking to chase his dream of kornering the koala image sector, and brought on a krack staff of pros (Alan macdougall, Dan Krugman, Andrew Ritchie) to help him reach the top. Like any business, the kompetition is fierce, and kuddlingkoalas.net rivals koalahugz.com have the technical savvy and hip new-media attitude to be a grave threat to Craig's business through innovation or, failing that, sabotage. South Australia has had a three-year drought and as a result eucalypt leaves lose much of their moisture. Koalas normally get enough water from eating leaves but lately it's been too hot so koalas have been coming to homes looking for water. This wild koala first came to our house during an extreme heat wave (see A Thirsty Koala). Three weeks later it got hot again and he came back looking much more lively.
Sam the koala shot to fame after firefighters in Australia found him burned and disoriented and shot video of him drinking three water bottles. He is now recovering at an animal shelter.
www.vidpull.com For all you animal lovers out there, this video is such a sincere and moving video. During the dangerous fires a firefighter just helped out this helpless animal in an emergency situation. The Firefighter in the video is David Tree. He said he was in the middle of backburning at Mirboo North when he saw the stricken koala. "I could see she had sore feet and was in trouble, so I pulled over the fire truck. She just plonked herself down, as if to say 'I'm beat'," he said. "I offered her a drink and she drank three bottles. "The most amazing part was when she grabbed my hand. I will never forget that." Mr Tree and his brigade then received an emergency call-out to save a house, but minutes later Sam (The name the Koala has been given) was picked up by wildlife carers. She is one of 22 koalas, 14 ringtail possums, several wallabies and eastern grey kangaroos that have been handed into Gippsland carers.

The Southern Ash Wildlife Shelter cares for injured wildlife and did a tremendous job rehabilitating Sam the Koala until her passing from an unrelated infectious disease. Please visit their website here: www.samthekoala.com.au ... and consider a donation because they are literally working out of their kitchens and lounge rooms. We are all sad at the news of Sam's passing however, it's important to note that Sam was put to sleep due to a condition unrelated to the Bushfires. Her condition was 'urogenital chlamydiosis' and is caused by a infection of the intracellular bacteria in the genus Chlamydia, which is transmitted via sexual activity and also vertically to offspring. The Queensland University of Technology is developing a vaccine for the bacterial infection which is looking very promising in the trial phases. Before Green Fanatics get the chance to blame this on habitat destruction by 'invading' Europeans, let me say that researchers actually believe Chlamydia was bought into Australia by early Aboriginal tribes from Asia over 40000 years ago. It now affects approx 50% of the Koala population. The reason Sam was put down is because as the disease develops it can become quite painful.
A heat wave in South Australia has had profound effects on wildlife. After four days of 40+ deg C weather, this little koala came to our house looking for a drink. Koalas obtain their moisture from eucalyptus leaves so it's extremely rare to see them climbing out of their trees for water. He stayed for three days and we gave him water and gum leaves. The temperature dropped to the mid 30s and he disappeared for a few days but then we got a 43 degree day (109F) and amazingly he returned for more water.
Koalas generally don't drink water, but with the temperature hovering around 43 degrees celcius for a few days, this one took shelter under a parked car at a bus station. Plenty of onlookers gave it water which it enthusiastically lapped up. The owner of the car had called fauna rescue at this point, and couldn't leave with a koala behind her back wheel! The koala was not fussed about having humans so close to it but koalas have big sharp claws and I wouldn't be game to try and move one.
koalas are not bears. they are marsupials.
Who made up the story that koalas were cute and cuddly? They have massive claws, sharp pointy teeth and a cantankerous nature borne of their gum leaf addiction. Here, Jaybo the wonder dog demonstrates what to do if you find one on the verandah.
More koalas mating, one pair this time. Notice the trembling of the paws when he orgasms.
