Hip arthroscopy for Femoral Acetabular Impingement (FAI) for a 21 year old patient 10 years after surgery for Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphisis (SCFE). The SCFE resulted in a large cam lesion and labral tear, or tear of the labrum.
In recent years there is an increasing trend for full endoscopic hip procedures. As well as for diagnostic use new arthroscopic techniques to treat a huge range of hip diseases like lesions of the acetabular labrum, the impingement syndrome or extraction of foreign bodies have been developed and set as a standard. In cooperation with Dr. Wolfang Miehlke from the ARCUS Sports Hospital Pforzheim / Germany an instrument set has been created that, due to its easy handling and ergonomic design, can be applied by experienced surgeons as well as by novices in hip arthroscopy. Having been developed in strict accordance with our customers demands, this instrument set is perfectly designed for the special anatomic needs of the hip joint.

Hip surgery can mean quite a painful recovery, but local doctors say it doesn't have to be that way. Newschannel 3 recently spoke with one patient about what she calls a 'pain-free' process. I was just always in some kind of pain, said Kathy Peck. It would wake me up in the middle of the night, right out of a sound sleep, it hurt so bad. Peck's x-ray from before she had minimally invasive hip surgery, shows why. A bone on her left side jutted out, and when she walked it pinched a labrum, causing constant pain, but she didn't want to have hip surgery. Seven to nine inch incision, pull my hip out, reshape the ball and put it back in and pin it together, said Peck. Well, that didn't sound good because basically that's the same surgery as hip replacement, except I'd get my own hip back. So, instead of the traditional hip surgery, Dr. Thomas Ryan performed a different kind of surgery. What we do now is to use instruments about the same diameter and length as this ink pen, said Dr. Ryan, and put them into the hip socket, we can see, it's all hooked up to a TV camera, we can remove the labrum, we can repair the labrum if it's repairable. Peck had the procedure done in 2009 and said her surgery was a cinch. Had surgery at 9:30 in the morning and I was home by 3:00 in the afternoon, said Peck. I'm riding the motorcycle every chance I get, I'm cleaning the house, even though the house cleaning part still isn't fun, it's less painful. Dr. Ryan is the first and only orthopaedic ...
The pain in her hip was piercing. Patty dragged her leg when trying to walk. She knew it was time for another hip procedure, but the first one she had was traumatic to her, emotionally and physically. This time though, she was referred to Hip Arthroscopy specialist John P. Salvo, MD, and what a difference it made. The minimally invasive procedure relieved her of her pain immediately following her surgery as she was in the recovery room. She was out of the surgery center and back home within hours. Now, a few months later, she is walking on a treadmill, gardening, and enjoying life pain free.
This video of hip arthroscopy demonstrates dynamic examination of the hip following acetabular rim trimming and femoral osteoplasty and labral (labrum) repair. The hip is brought through range of motion under anesthesia to check for adequate treatment of femoroacetabular impingement (FAI). The labral tissue is free of any impingement forces which had contributed to its damage. Produced by Dr. Dominic S. Carreira, MD. www.hipfootankle.com
I had my first hip surgery on November 12, 2009, and on April 8, 2010, I had my second one. I was so happy to be able to dance for a couple of months in between, but now it's time to recover and rehabilitate again. The surgery in this video is a femoro-acetabular arthroscopic osteotomy and a labral repair (identical to the first surgery). Basically, the surgeon used a bone-shaver to round my femor and remove a bump in hip socket where my growth plates grew together, and reattach my labrum to my hip socket with three anchors. The surgery was one hour and 45 minutes long (the first one was two and a half hours). The background music is the Vitamin String Orchestra's version of "Hypnotize" by System of a Down, which is the same piece I choreographed a solo to about the experience with my first surgery. www.youtube.com

i have a question about the rom of the hips joints in straddle split position why many people have them less of 180° angle when passing from the side split with toes forward in to the side split toes up? is anatomical problem of Femoral neck angle/acetabular labrum of the hip joint? from what I read if you do a split with toes up and your back in straightline is no use flexing the pelvis forward because with external rotation of the legs (feet pointed straight up) the hip joint is free and neck/head Femur bone should not have conflicts with the greater trochanter! So why the split with his feet pointed up for many people is not a perfect in straight line? thanks for response Best Regards

Here is my 2010 Modern Solo to Vitamin String Orchestra's version of Hypnotize by System of a Down. This performance was 79 days after a 2 1/2 hour hip surgery to repair my labrum and fix both a pincer and cam impingment. Choreographing and performing this dance has helped me deal with all this so much. I still have a lot of restrictions on my dance and a very long way to go before I am back, but I am so grateful to my surgeon, my physical therapists, my teachers, and everyone who has helped me.
Dr. Cascio performs an osteoplasty and dynamic analysis of an FAI hip after labrum repair.
Dr. Cascio demonstrates an os acetabuli or rim fracture, which is a fragment of bone that fractures off the edge of the acetabulum or cup in patients with FAI (femoroacetabular impingement). Rim fractures are usually associated with a labrum tear.
Arthroscopic Labral repair of the Hip Joint, performed by Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. David J. King in St. Louis Missouri.
The hip is moved so that Dr. Cascio can see if the femoral head is impinging or pinching the repaired labrum in this marathon runner.
