Hip surgery can mean quite a painful recovery, but local doctors say it doesn't have to be that way. Newschannel 3 recently spoke with one patient about what she calls a 'pain-free' process. I was just always in some kind of pain, said Kathy Peck. It would wake me up in the middle of the night, right out of a sound sleep, it hurt so bad. Peck's x-ray from before she had minimally invasive hip surgery, shows why. A bone on her left side jutted out, and when she walked it pinched a labrum, causing constant pain, but she didn't want to have hip surgery. Seven to nine inch incision, pull my hip out, reshape the ball and put it back in and pin it together, said Peck. Well, that didn't sound good because basically that's the same surgery as hip replacement, except I'd get my own hip back. So, instead of the traditional hip surgery, Dr. Thomas Ryan performed a different kind of surgery. What we do now is to use instruments about the same diameter and length as this ink pen, said Dr. Ryan, and put them into the hip socket, we can see, it's all hooked up to a TV camera, we can remove the labrum, we can repair the labrum if it's repairable. Peck had the procedure done in 2009 and said her surgery was a cinch. Had surgery at 9:30 in the morning and I was home by 3:00 in the afternoon, said Peck. I had my first hip surgery on November 12, 2009, and on April 8, 2010, I had my second one. I was so happy to be able to dance for a couple of months in between, but now it's time to recover and rehabilitate again. The surgery in this video is a femoro-acetabular arthroscopic osteotomy and a labral repair (identical to the first surgery). Basically, the surgeon used a bone-shaver to round my femor and remove a bump in hip socket where my growth plates grew together, and reattach my labrum to my hip socket with three anchors. The surgery was one hour and 45 minutes long (the first one was two and a half hours). i have a question about the rom of the hips joints in straddle split position why many people have them less of 180° angle when passing from the side split with toes forward in to the side split toes up? is anatomical problem of Femoral neck angle/acetabular labrum of the hip joint? from what I read if you do a split with toes up and your back in straightline is no use flexing the pelvis forward because with external rotation of the legs (feet pointed straight up) the hip joint is free and neck/head Femur bone should not have conflicts with the greater trochanter! So why the split with his feet pointed up for many people is not a perfect in straight line? thanks for response Best Regards

Here is my 2010 Modern Solo to Vitamin String Orchestra's version of Hypnotize by System of a Down. This performance was 79 days after a 2 1/2 hour hip surgery to repair my labrum and fix both a pincer and cam impingment. Choreographing and performing this dance has helped me deal with all this so much. I still have a lot of restrictions on my dance and a very long way to go before I am back, but I am so grateful to my surgeon, my physical therapists, my teachers, and everyone who has helped me.
