Sri Senkamalavalli Thayar (aka) Sri Mahalakshmi (aka) Periya Piratti Sevai at ShanguChakra Home during Aadi (Tamil Solar Calendar Month) Puja and Aradhana. The accompanying Krithi sung during the Thirumanjanam of Sri Alamelumanga of Thiruchanoor "Ksheerabdhi Kanyakaku" is rendered by Pudukkotai Brothers. Lakshmi (Sanskrit: लक्ष्मी lakṣmī, Hindi pronunciation: [ˈləkʂ.miː]) is the Hindu goddess of wealth, prosperity (both material and spiritual), light, wisdom, fortune, fertility, generosity and courage; and the embodiment of beauty, grace and charm. Goddess Mahalakshmi is called as Shri because she is endowed with six auspicious and divine qualities or Gunas and also because she is the source of strength even to Lord Narayana. She is the consort of Vishnu and married Rama (in her incarnation as Sita) and Krishna (as Radha and later Rukmini). Mahalakshmi's presence is also found on Lord Sri Venkateswara (at Tirumala) or Vishnu's chest, at the heart. Lakshmi is the embodiment of love, from which devotion to God or Bhakti flows from. It is through Love/Bhakti or Lakshmi that the atma or soul is able to reach God or Vishnu. Lakshmi plays a special role as the mediator between her husband Lord Vishnu and his worldly devotees. While Vishnu is often conceived of as a stern, easily-perturbed patriarch, Lakshmi represents a more soothing, warm and approachable mother figure who willingly intervenes in the lives of devotees on his behalf. Often, it is Lakshmi who acts as the ...
Sri Rukmini-Satyabhama Sahita Sri Vidya Rajagopalan (Krishna as Cowherd) at ShanguChakra Home. The accompanying Sanskrit composition "Radha Mukha Kamalam" in Kapi Raaga is composed by Sri Papanasam Sivan and rendered by Smt E. Gayathri. Papanasam Sivan (Tamil: பாபநாசம் சிவன்) (September 26, 1890 - October 10, 1973) was a prominent composer of Carnatic music and a singer. A famous composer, Sivan was also known as Tamil Thyagayya. Using Classical South Indian as a base, Sivan created numerous hits popularised by MK Thyagaraja Bhagavathar and MS Subbulakshmi. Papanasam Sivan's early years were spent in the Travancore area of Kerala where the kings patronised fine arts. He was born in the district of Thanjavur, which was home to the illustrious musical trinity of Carnatic music. His given name was Ramaiya. In 1897, when Ramaiya was just 7, his father died. His mother Yogambal, along with her sons, left Thanjavur and moved to Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, where her brother-in-law was a Ramayana Sastri in the renowned Padmanabha Swamy Temple. At Thiruvananthapuam, Ramaiya learned Malayalam and Sanskrit and later earned a degree in grammar. In spite of his deep knowledge of music, Papanasam Sivan was more interested in the devotional aspect of music. He preferred to sing devotional songs and encouraged other singers take part in sessions of devotional music with him. Papanasam Sivan was a regular in all the major temple festivals in South India with his devotional ...

Compilation of ShanguChakra's Home Utsava Divyamangala Vigraham (Kannanin Mugangal) of Sri Krishna (Venugopal) Alangaram/Upacharam photographs. The accompanying song in Tamil is "Katrinilae Varum Geetham" from the Tamil Movie 'Meera", Circa 1945. It was originally sung by Bharat Ratna MS Subbulakshmi who acted as "Meera" in the movie. The music was composed by Sri SV Venkataraman. Over the years many musicians have sung the MS Subbulakshmi version without any changes. The current rendition by Mambalam Sisters follows the original style with its nuances intact. Mirabai (मीराबाई) (c.1498-c.1547CE) (alternate orthographies: Meera; Mira; Meera Bai) was an aristocratic Hindu mystical singer and devotee of Krishna from Rajasthan, India and one of the most significant figures of the Sant tradition of the Vaishnava Bhakti Movement. Some 12-1300 prayerful songs or bhajans attributed to her are popular throughout India and have been published in several translations worldwide. In the bhakti tradition, they are in passionate praise of Krishna. Details of her life, which has been the subject of several films, are pieced together from her poetry and stories recounted by her community and are of debatable historical authenticity, particularly those that connect her with the later Tansen. On the other hand, the traditions that make her a disciple of Ravidas who disputed with Rupa Goswami are consonant with the usual account of her life. A Bhajan is any type of Indian devotional ...
Compilation of various Utsava Archa Murthis at ShanguChakra Home during various religious festivities. The accompanying Sanskrit poem in Carnatic Ragamalika is "Dasavatara Gita Govinda" by Jayadeva Kavi and is rendered by Bharat Ratna Smt. MS Subbulakshmi. Jayadeva was a Sanskrit poet, who lived in what is now Orissa, India circa 1200 AD. He is most known for his composition, the epic poem Gita Govinda, which depicts the divine love of the Hindu deity Krishna and his consort, Radha, and is considered an important text in the Bhakti movement of Hinduism. Jayadeva was instrumental in popularizing the Dasavatara, the ten incarnations of Vishnu in another composition, Dasakritikrite. Furthermore, the classic Tribhangi (three-fold) posture of Krishna playing the flute gained popularity due to him. The Gita Govinda is the best known composition of Jayadeva. It is a lyrical poetry that is organized into twelve chapters. Each chapter is further sub-divided into twenty four divisions called Prabandhas. The prabandhas contain couplets grouped into eights, called Ashtapadis. Sudarsanavalli-Vijayavalli Samedha Sri Chakrapani (Sudarshana Chakra) Sevai at ShanguChakra's Home. The Utsava Idol Sri Chakrapani has Eight Arms instead of the traditional Four. The accompanying Hymn in Sanskrit is 'Vishnu Bhujangaprayaatha Stotram" rendered by Smt. Gayathri Girish. It praises the glory of Lord Vishnu. Chakrapani Temple is a Vishnu temple located in a serene and religious environment in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu, India. The prime deity is Chakraraja, a form of Lord Vishnu adorned with Sudharshana Chakra. The temple structure is superb with amazingly designed Gopurams and structures. It is a real specimen of ancient South Indian architectural brilliance. One important feature of this temple is the Vilva (Bilwa) archana, an offer presented to the main deity. Typically this offer is made to hiva, but in this temple this offer can be made to Lord Vishnu. This temple is considered to be one of the most important Vishnu temples in South India, along with Srirangam and Tirupati. Seven of the Alwars sang the glories of this temple. Lord Chakrapani is the presiding Deity of the temple. The images of Chakrapani with eight arms and Sudarshanavalli Thayar with a gracious visage are inspiring. Brahma, Surya and Agni are depicted as worshipping the Lord. According to legend, Surya once competed with Vishnu to decide who was brighter. Vishnu appeared in the form of a Chakra and put down the pride of Surya. Like Shiva, Lord Chakrapani has a third eye on His forehead ...

Get the book so you can chant along j.mp Śrī Viṣṇusahasranāma is a classic from the ancient Vedic literature of India. This Sanskrit literature is unequaled in all the world for its detailed spiritual wisdom and ontological knowledge, and for its wealth of knowledge of the soul, the Lord and their eternal spiritual relationship. This knowledge is presented in highly condensed form in Śrī Viṣṇusahasranāma, which refers to a tremendous background of esoteric knowledge collectively known as the Esoteric Teaching of the Vedas. This knowledge is especially contained in the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, or Bhagavata-Purāṇa, the history of the interactions between the Lord and His intimate devotees since very ancient times. Each Holy Name of the Lord refers a story narrated in Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, which is the cream of the ancient Vedic literature, composed of 18000 verses of exquisite transcendental Sanskrit poetry. The soundtrack is by the late Carnatic classical and devotional singer MS Subbalakshmi of Madurai. We add the translation by David Bruce Hughes (Gaurahari Dāsānudās Bābājī), the spiritual master of Esoteric Teaching Seminars. You can read, download or purchase a hard copy of the complete work at bit.ly Video production thanks to Marino Klisovic.
