BRIGHT EYES Lyrics - ART GURFUNKEL Is it a kind of dream, Floating out on the tide, Following the river of death downstream? Oh, is it a dream? There's a fog along the horizon, A strange glow in the sky, And nobody seems to know where you go, And what does it mean? Oh, is it a dream? Bright eyes, Burning like fire. Bright eyes, How can you close and fail? How can the light that burned so brightly Suddenly burn so pale? Bright eyes. Is it a kind of shadow, Reaching into the night, Wandering over the hills unseen, Or is it a dream? There's a high wind in the trees, A cold sound in the air, And nobody ever knows when you go, And where do you start, Oh, into the dark. Bright eyes, burning like fire. Bright eyes, how can you close and fail? How can the light that burned so brightly Suddenly burn so pale? Bright eyes. Bright eyes, burning like fire. Bright eyes, how can you close and fail? How can the light that burned so brightly Suddenly burn so pale? Bright eyes. A Bit of Fry & Laurie is a British television series starring former Cambridge Footlights members Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie, broadcast on both BBC2 and also BBC1 between 1989 and 1995. It ran for four series and totaled 26 episodes, including a 35 minute pilot episode in 1987. Both Fry and Laurie have expressed interest in working together again, but this has been prevented by the busy schedules of both men. The programme was a sketch show cast in a rather eccentric and at times high-brow mould. As in The Two Ronnies, elaborate wordplay and innuendo were staples of its material; some sketches deliberately threatened to cross the line into vulgarity, but would always finish just before reaching that point. It was a progressive show, playing with the audience's expectations. For example, it frequently broke the fourth wall; characters would revert into their real-life actors mid-sketch, or the camera would often pan off set into the studio. In addition, the show was punctuated with non-sequitur vox pops in a similar style to those of Monty Python's Flying Circus, often making irrelevant statements, heavily based on wordplay. Laurie was also seen playing piano and a wide variety of other instruments and singing comical numbers. Guests: John Bird, Jane Booker Sketches: * Grey and Hopeless * Guests Introduction * Blame * Charter * Jane's Poem (NOTE: Script appeared in first script book as Stephen's Poem, but the poem is the same, except the line about his wife dying is ...

In the Spring, Art Garfunkel began his first major solo tour of the US (50 cities) since his days with Paul Simon. Art felt he finally had enough material from his three solo albums to justify a full concert tour. Leah Kunkel (sister of Cass Elliott from The Mamas and Papas) joined Art on tour. Leah appears on WATERMARK as well as several later albums. The reviews of the tour were very good. Critics praised Art's performance as both polished and professional. More importantly, Art told reporters, "I'm finding this tour incredibly satisfying." Art closed his US tour at New York's Carnegie Hall. Paul Simon joined Art to sing their 1975 hit "My Little Town." Jimmy Webb also appeared for several songs on piano. THE NEW YORK TIMES wrote of Art's Carnegie Hall appearance: Mr. Garfunkel has become a compelling song stylist and an understated, but remarkably musical vocal technician. He has the rare ability to put a song over with a maximum of feeling, a minimum of fuss and an admirable control of pitch, timbre and phrasing. Columbia Records celebrated Art's successful tour and album with a party at Tavern-on-the-Green in New York's Central Park. Guest includes Jimmy, Paul, Artie, David Crosby, Johnny Mathis, Bob Dylan, Kevin Bishop and of course, Art's lover (and the photgrapher of the front cover), Laurie Bird (who'd sadly died the year after this release).
In the April 3, 1978 issue of NEWSWEEK, Tony Schwartz reviewed Art Garfunkel's WATERMARK album. Excerpts follow: Fortified with new material from his latest album, Watermark, he has embarked on a 40-city tour, his first since 1970. Even the cover of his current album bespeaks his new attitude. Garfunkel is pictured reclining in a lounge chair on a sun deck, just a few yards from the ocean (editor's note: this photograph was taken by Laurie Bird). There is a broad smile across his face. "I wanted to come out from the masks, to get away from the shadows, including my own," says Garfunkel. Schwartz continued, "The sunny image is in stark contrast to his former partner's. While Paul Simon continues to write introspective, often despairing songs, Garfunkel has chosen simpler, softer-edged tunes set to luxuriant arrangements. The format highlights what has always been his best quality: an effortlessly lyrical voice that is as smooth and unfettered as any in pop music. For Watermark, his most graceful album yet, Garfunkel settled largely on tunes by Jimmy Webb, the prolific songwriter known for his lavishly romantic lyrics and lively melodies. It was to the latter that Garfunkel was especially attracted. 'I respond more to notes than to lyrics,' he (Garfunkel) explains. "I'm interested in their richness and power. What I get caught up in is texture and sonority - the sound per se." "Garfunkel makes no apologies for his simple, sentimental style", writes Schwartz. Garfunkel added ...
Killed by the system. A sketch from 'A Bit Of Fry And Laurie' series 4 first broadcast in 1995. A 'bloody annoyed' Hugh Laurie blames bureaucratic society for what he ends up doing. The sharp 'cut' at the end is how the sketch was broadcast.

Romuald Karmakar's list of "Films you should see before it's too late" (2): COCKFIGHTER. Monte Hellman (USA, 1974).
Romuald Karmakar's list of "Films you should see before it's too late" (1): TWO-LANE BLACKTOP. Monte Hellman (USA, 1971).
Enjoy the happy music of the authentic harmonious chorus of beaks and lips. I filmed the video in our front yard and at Mystic Aquarium 's Bird Encounter. I included 3 wonderful photos from the Peoria Audubon Society's Humming-bird Festival. Laurie:-)
Laurie wrote this song in 1985, thinking of a dear friend of hers who had gone through a difficult divorce from his wife. So originally the song had that perspective. Then in 1999 the song was re-dedicated to a wonderful bluegrass musician named Charles Sawtelle, who passed away from leukemia. I created this version from the perspective of two of my cousins, who lost their dear sister to cancer earlier this year. My cousin Karen is a bird lover, and she picked out the bird pictures for this video. Thank you Laurie for a beautiful song. Lead vocals: Laurie Lewis and Kate Brislin Harmony vocals and mandolin: Tim O'Brien Bass vocals: Tony Marcus
Say hello to Amelia...my roommates singing bird.
Art Garfunkel - All I Know I bruise you, you bruise me We both bruise too easily Too easily to let it show I love you, and that's all I know All my plans have fallen through All my plans depend on you Depend on you to help them grow I love you, and that's all I know When the singer's gone Let the song go on... But the ending always comes at last Endings always come too fast They come too fast, but they pass too slow I love you, and that's all I know When the singer's gone Let the song go on It's a fine line between the darkness and the dawn They say the darkest night There's a light beyond But the ending always comes at last Endings always come too fast They come too fast, but they pass too slow I love you, and that's all I know That's all I know That's all I know Art Garfunkel pursued an acting career in the early 1970s, appearing in two Mike Nichols's films Catch-22 (1970) and Carnal Knowledge (1971). He later appeared in Nicholas Roeg's Bad Timing: A Sensual Obsession (1980), Good to Go, (1986) directed by Blain Novak, Boxing Helena (1993) directed by Jennifer Chambers Lynch, and The Rebound (2008) directed by Bart Freundlich. He has recorded several solo albums, scoring hits with "I Only Have Eyes For You" (a 1934 song written by Harry Warren)[7] and "Bright Eyes" (both British #1 hit singles), and "All I Know" (#9 in the United States). A version of "Bright Eyes" also appeared in the movie (based on the famous novel) Watership Down. Garfunkel briefly reunited with ...
One of the best comics to come out of Britain is the fantastic Hugh Laurie. He is someone I have followed since he first came in to the public arena. Over the years he has worked with all the legends like Rowan Atkinson, Steven Fry, Rick Mayall, Ben Elton, Richard Curtis, Dawn French Jennifer Saunders & John Bird but to name a few. Because he is a naturally gifted musician anyway, he could deliver these comedy songs with perfection & authenticity. This song is one of my favourites. Look out ...
