Lakers take a 2-0 lead over the Suns in the best of seven Western Conference Finals series. Kobe Bryant's 6 straight 30 point game streak came to an end but the Lakers winning streak continued. Bryant played the facilitator role in this game with an career high 13 assists. The reason Kobe was more of a decoy this game was that Phoenix decided to get the ball out of his hands so he wouldn't rip the Suns D apart like he did Monday. Gasol had a huge 29 point, 9 rebound effort as he dominated the Suns much smaller frontline and pretty much shut up Amare Stoudamire who said on his twitter he dominated Gasol in past years. Especially in the 4th quarter he got a couple of and 1's and easy layups. Odom had another great game with 17 points, and 9 rebounds and he too proved it was all skill and no luck. Odom clearly showed his advantage in transition and off the dribble, the Suns have no one that can stay in front of him. Bynum also played well in limited minutes with 13 points and 7 boards and showed he can be productive even with the knee injury and the 3 day layoff will certainly help him and Kobe who are both are battling injuries. Farmar was big in this game he hit three 3 points in this game and pushed the pace while he was in the game to get LA easy buckets on the break. The bench nearly gave up the lead in the 2nd quarter but play much better in the 4th quarter. The series resumes Sunday in Phoenix. (8:30 ET, TNT)

Ray Allen scored 25 points, Paul Pierce had 22 and the Boston Celtics used smothering defense to beat the Magic 92-88 on Sunday in the Eastern Conference finals opener. Rasheed Wallace added 13 points as the Celtics built a 20-point lead, then held on late to snap Orlando's 14-game winning streak. Vince Carter had 23 points and Jameer Nelson finished with 20 for Orlando, which cut the lead to two in the final seconds but simply ran out of time, looking rusty after a six-day layoff. ORLANDO -- Four free throws by Paul Pierce and Ray Allen in the final seconds were the only points the Boston Celtics managed in the final 5 1/2 minutes -- and the only points they needed. Allen and Pierce combined for 47 points and the Celtics continued their drive toward the NBA Finals Sunday, holding off the Orlando Magic 92-88 in the first game of the Eastern Conference finals. It was the fourth straight playoff win for the Celtics since they fell behind Cleveland 2-1 in the second round. They did it by taking the Magic out of their offense in the first half. Orlando went scoreless for a stretch of 5:32 and scored only 14 points in the first 16 minutes. "It was a defensive game," Boston coach Doc Rivers. "We like those, and that was good for us." The Celtics put the Magic in a double-digit hole and they couldn't climb out of it, even with a 56-point second half. "They came out ready to play," said Vince Carter, who led the Magic with 23 points. "They jumped on us early, offensively and defensively. "We fought like heck to get back in the game. Unfortunately, when you're down that many points with about nine minutes to go, and with them defending like they did, it's going to be tough." It was the Magic's first loss in the playoffs, their first loss at home since March 14 and their first loss of any kind of since April 2. "It's been that long since they lost a game?" asked Pierce, who needed only eight shots to score 22 points. "We honestly didn't realize that." The ...

BOSTON -- LeBron James scored 21 of his 38 points in the first quarter to help the Cleveland Cavaliers beat Boston 124-95 on Friday night, handing the Celtics their worst home playoff loss ever and taking a 2-1 lead in the best-of-7 Eastern Conference semifinals. Showing no ill-effects of an elbow problem that was the talk of Cleveland during the long layoff, James finished with eight rebounds and seven assists. The 21 points in a quarter was a franchise postseason record. Antawn Jamison had 20 points and 12 rebounds for Cleveland, while Shaquille O'Neal added 12 points and nine rebounds. Rajon Rondo, who had 19 assists in Boston's Game 2 victory on Monday, had 18 points and eight assists. The Celtics missed 10 of their first 13 shots, hitting just 27 percent in the first quarter to spot Cleveland a 21-point lead. They were never able to recover as the Cavaliers shot 59 percent from the field for the game. Game 4 is Sunday and the Celtics need a victory to split their home games and assure themselves of another. James wore a black sleeve on his right elbow, which became a concern after he shot a free throw left-handed in the closing minutes of Cleveland's first-round playoff game against Chicago. He was 8 of 10 from the field in the first quarter - most of them mid- to long-range jumpers - and after that it didn't matter. "I know I'm going to hear a lot about the elbow, but I'm here to play basketball and give our team a chance to win," James said. The Celtics had high ...

Switch between your original player and the added target player randomly throughout the game so your opponent never knows who will play the ball. Locate your best angle with the best look at goal. Note the preferred foot of the shot taker and which player has the best angle to hit a critical target area on the goal. Judge your power on the meter carefully and add enough arc on the ball so it is difficult for the keeper to judge where the final path of your shot might end up. GINEBRA SUBDUES PRE-TOURNEY FAVE SMB IN FIERY START Thu, 10/14/2009 Mark Caguioa marked his return from a one-year layoff with a 17-point showing Wednesday night, helping Barangay Ginebra get to a winning start in the 2009-2010 KFC PBA Philippine Cup. With Caguioa pouring 15 in the second half, the Kings sustained the momentum of a decisive second-quarter romp on the way to a 98-86 win over the San Miguel Beermen before a good crowd at the Araneta Coliseum. Eric Menk and Jayjay Helterbrand also made their presence felt as the Kings got past the team that beat them in a classic title duel in the most recent Fiesta Conference. "We caught them off-guard. They relaxed a bit as they're probably still feeling championship high. On our part, we just don't want to get beaten again," said Ginebra coach Jong Uichico. "It's just a first game. Everybody's feeling around, trying to get right chemistry. But it's nice to win. Hopefully, we can get to sustain it throughout the conference," Uichico added. The Beermen started well but were outmaneuvered and outplayed by the Kings in the last three quarters of the game marred by two flagrant fouls committed by Danny Ildefonso and Denok Miranda on the cocky Ronald Tubid. Caguioa returned from a long layoff with a flourish, going 7-of-12 from the field and also coming through with two free throws, two rebounds, one assist and one steal in 28 minutes of action. Uichico said the prolific guard/forward is just about 80 percent back in shape ...

LOS ANGELES(AP) Kobe Bryant has waited a year, a long year, for another chance at NBA title. He's not about to let this one slip away. The Olympic gold medal was nice. Not nearly enough. He covets another golden trophy. "I just want it so bad, that's all,'' Bryant said. "I just want it really bad.'' Bryant, playing like a man possessed, scored 40 points and the Los Angeles Lakers, who have waited nearly one year for a chance to erase bitter memories of a Boston beatdown and a championship they felt belonged to them, pounded the Orlando Magic 100-75 in Game 1 on Thursday night. This year, nothing short of a 15th title will do for the Lakers. And with the sensational Bryant out front, they may be on their way. Game 2 is Sunday night at star-studded Staples Center, where actors Jack Nicholson, Leonardo DiCaprio and rapper Kanye West had front-row seats to see another virtuoso performance by Bryant, who scored 18 points in the third quarter as the Lakers opened a 26-point lead and embarrassed the Magic. The last time the Lakers were seen in the finals, they were heading toward their locker room in Boston last June and summer break after being drubbed by 39 points in a series-ending Game 6 by the Celtics. The renewed rivalry between the league's superpowers never panned out. Bryant and his teammates have used that humiliation to motivate them all season and throughout these playoffs. After a nearly three-week layoff from game action, Chivas USA returns to MLS play this Saturday, Aug. 8, at 6:30 pm PT, at the Colorado Rapids. The Red-and-Whites last match was on July 19 at the New England Revolution, and the team will be looking to end a four-match losing streak against the Rapids. Chivas USA is currently tied for fourth place in the Western Conference with an 8-6-3 record (WLT) and 27 points, but the Red-and-White have played at least two fewer games than every other team in the division, and trail the LA Galaxy by one point and Seattle Sounders FC by two. This Saturdays game will be broadcast live locally on FS West and W Radio 690 AM, with pregame coverage starting at 6:00 pm PT. Chivas USA then faces New York on the road on Aug. 15 before returning home for an Aug. 22 matchup against Toronto FC; for more information, or to purchase tickets, please call 1-877-CHIVAS-1 or visit cdchivasusa.com. Chivas USA defender Jonathan Bornstein and goalkeeper Lance Parker discuss the team's long layoff and Saturday's match in Colorado.

Watch The Full Highlights of LeBron James NBA MVP vs Atlanta Hawk in Game 1 CLEVELAND(AP) Alone under his basket, LeBron James braced himself for Atlanta's onslaught. As two Hawks swooped down on a fast break, James held his ground, stepped in front of Joe Johnson and took the charge. The only play. The smart play. A game-changing play. MVP. Indeed. James dunked the first time he touched the ball and scored 34 points - 22 in the first half - as the Cavaliers, who waited nine days between playoff games after a first-round sweep, shook off some early rust and pulled away for a 99-72 win over the Hawks in their Eastern Conference semifinal opener on Tuesday. Showing why he was voted the league's best player in a landslide, James added 10 rebounds, three assists and four steals as the top-seeded Cavs won their fifth straight lopsided game in a postseason that has so far mirrored the best regular season in franchise history. James stuffed the stat sheet again, but it was his defensive stop on Johnson in the third quarter that meant as much as anything. "An MVP taking a charge on the break?'' Cavs guard Mo Williams said. "That's amazing. You get that effort from him, how could I not take a charge? The whole night was about him and he came out and showed why he is the MVP - in the first quarter.'' The Cavs weren't sure how the layoff would affect them. "It was unbelievable how sharp we were,'' James said. "We just picked up where we left off.'' Williams added 21 points for ...

Los Angeles Lakers forward Pau Gasol talks about how his team's layoff affected the team in their 100-92 loss to the Rockets Monday night at Staples Center.
It took Kobe Bryant only a few minutes to end his shooting slump. Bryant scored Los Angeles first 11 points and once his teammates joined in, the Lakers overwhelmed the Jazz 108-94 on Saturday night and moved within one game of advancing to the second round. It was important for me to come out and be a little more assertive, said Bryant, who scored 38 two nights after one of his worst shooting games in years. Bryant went 16-for-24, erasing any memories of his 5-for-24 night Thursday in the Lakers only loss of the series. We never could get close enough to guard him, Utah coach Jerry Sloan said. I think he put everyone on his back and got them off to the way they wanted to play. He scored in double figures in each of the first three quarters and more than doubled his scoring from Game 4. Coming off that semi-bad performance—that horrible performance I had in that last game, Bryant said with a grin, it feels good to respond with a game like this.
