RARE OLDIES SOUNDIES WITH MR LES PAUL & MISS MARY FORD ! Lester William Polsfuss (June 9, 1915 August 12, 2009)— known as Les Paul — was an American jazz and country guitarist, songwriter and inventor. He was a pioneer in the development of the solid-body electric guitar which "made the sound of rock and roll possible". He is credited with many recording innovations, including overdubbing (also known as sound on sound), delay effects such as tape delay, phasing effects, and multitrack recording. His innovative talents extended into his playing style, including licks, trills, chording sequences, fretting techniques and timing, which set him apart from his contemporaries and inspired many of the guitarists of the present day. He recorded with his wife Mary Ford in the 1950s and they sold millions of records. Among his many honors, Paul is one of a handful of artists with a permanent, stand-alone exhibit in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He is prominently named by the music museum on its website as an "architect" and a "key inductee" along with Sam Phillips and Alan Freed. Les Paul has recently passed away on August 13, 2009. Mary Ford passed away in 1977. They had a string of hits in the early 50's, pioneering such techniques as multi-track recording, and Les Paul having made many innovations and inventions for the electric guitar. Many say that if not for Les Paul, Rock and Roll would never have happened, or certainly not the guitar centric rock and roll that existed through the later 50's in to the 1960's. But.. this is wonderful pop music from a lost age!

Most people nowadays know who Les Paul is because of a famous rock guitar that bears his name and has been used and preferred by musicians like Slash, Carl Perkins, Jimmy Page, and many many others. Some of the older ones are worth a lot of money (the red ones from 1958 and 1959 are about as expensive as an electric guitar gets). Les helped design these famous guitars, working with Gibson Musical Instruments...he also innovated a lot of studio sound techniques, many of which were years ahead of their time. I offer this as a tribute to "Rhubarb Red" himself, a man whose guitars have put the "rock" in "rock and roll" for years...RIP, Les Paul...
