Upon arriving at ELR I knew it was going to be a good day when it only took me twenty seconds to find parking! If you know your way around Santa Monica you certainly understand why I was so happy. If you're not familiar with Santa Monica, finding parking that fast is like finding a twenty dollar bill in an old pair of pant LUCKY! Luck really had nothing to do with it as it were, it just so happens that ELR is located in a perfect location only blocks from the Pacific Ocean flush against an eclectic residential neighborhood and other shops. Zat mentioned to me that everyone in Santa Monica calls the area the "Green Light District". After parking my jeep (I know bad Echo, somebody give me a Prius) I made my way inside and was greeted by all the staff with huge smiles and laughter it was quite infectious! Immediately I noticed that the music that was playing in the background wasn't your typical "Muzak" or satellite radio. Instead I heard carefully selected tunes from India other far off exotic places. I'm a big fan for ambiance so good music is key and that can also be said for decor and artwork all of which ELR was representing to the fullest ...

Oh no! The world is ending, wait a minute, this is a Hollywood film, stick near Cusack and we'll be fine. Roland Emmerich's "2012" is another of his end of the world scenario films with John Cusack at it's helm as Jackson, the failed optimistic novelist.Far away from Cusack is the real reason why the world's about to end deep in space as the world is on a coarse to align with all the planets causing a massive solar flair to burst from the sun. The government knows of the impending doom but decides to tell no one until the day of the planet's date with the microwave. Reports of giant cracks in the earth and popping up everywhere and earthquakes are a normal part of daily life. Back to Cusack though, for some reason a failed novelist is the main character in a film that seems to want to cover the military and government aspects of the world near the brink of annihilation. What is there to say about Cusack, he's a hero who can out-drive an earthquake somehow. I am supposed to believe it because Hollywood shoves it down my throat that in disaster movies if you are the main character you can jump over a tsunami and laugh in the face of a super volcano without getting hurt. One thing I liked about this movie is John Cusack doing what he can to try and fit the role as a failed novelist which he has already done in 1408. I don't know how a failed novelist fits the quota of being an action hero as Cusack is "put through the ring of fire" so to speak in going head first into ...

Directed by Brian Desmond Hurst and adapted by Noel Langley, the movie captured the dark yet whimsical tone of Dickens classic. Disneys A Christmas Carol, the new animated film from writer-director Robert Zemeckis, tried to reinvigorate one of the greatest Christmas stories ever told. Though Zemeckis failed to find the right balance between the dark and the whimsical, I still applaud the movie for being faithful to Dickens work. The film is very faithful indeed, that some of the images may terrify little children. Lets face it, Dickens 1843 novella was intended for adults. So Walt Disney Pictures is in a quandary. They are marketing an animated film to children that will ultimately scare them. We all know the story by now. An old, bitter miser, Ebenezer Scrooge (voiced by Jim Carrey), finds redemption when he is visited by ghosts on Christmas Eve. Carrey also voices Scrooge at various ages, the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Christmas Yet to Come. The Ghost of Christmas Past appears in a form of a flickering flame which is a fitting representation of what Dickens described as a bright, clear jet of light. The Ghost takes Scrooge on a journey back in time, revisiting moments in his past. From August 15th to the 18th in 1969, half a million people attended and more tried and failed to get to the Woodstock concert site in White Lake, NY. It is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most pivotal moments in music history. Forty years later, director Ang Lee (Lust, Caution, Brokeback Mountain) captures the event in the new film Taking Woodstock. Based on the autobiography by Elliot Tiber called Taking Woodstock A True Story on a Riot, a Concert, and a Life, the film aims to tell more on what happened behind the scenes and less on the concert itself. Taking Woodstock is about what Tiber saw at the countercultural revolution. Demetri Martin stars as Elliot, an interior designer in Greenwich Village whos deeply entrenched within his family business a dumpy Catskills motel called the El Monaco. His overbearing parents, Jake and Sonia (Henry Goodman and Imelda Staunton), have ran the business into the ground.
