The Beau Hunks are a Dutch revivalist music ensemble who have performed and recorded the vintage works of composers Leroy Shield, Raymond Scott, Edward McDowell, Ferde Grofé, and others. They have been referred to as a "documentary orchestra," because they perform note-perfect renditions of music which is obscure and often commercially unavailable. For some projects for which no sheet music was known to exist, they had to reconstruct charts from original recordings extracted from films. For various projects they have been reconfigured as The Beau Hunks Sextette, The Beau Hunks Saxophone Soctette, The Beau Hunks Saxophone Quartet, and The Beau Hunks Orchestra. They have recorded for the labels Movies Select Audio, EigenWijs (a division of the VPRO, the Dutch public broadcasting network), Basta Audio-Visuals, and Koch Screen. The Beau Hunks Orchestra was originally a quintet organized to perform soundtrack themes from Hal Roach film studio comedies of the 1930s, including those of Laurel & Hardy, Our Gang, The Little Rascals, Charley Chase, Thelma Todd and the Taxi Boys. The group (whose name derives from a 1931 Laurel and Hardy film Beau Hunks) gave what was intended to be their only public performance on 18 January 1992, at the Oliver Hardy Centennial in Amsterdam. However, based on the success of the performance, the band decided to expand to a full orchestra and record their repertoire for commercial CD release. The Roach film music, composed mostly by Leroy Shield ...

[Please read] A video play in two acts (with intermission). Our November birthday girl had to become a woman someday... As an adult, former child actress Darla Hood (1931-1979) sang professionally. Her mature voice sounded somewhat like Judy Garland's. Although she recorded a pair of singles in the late 1950s for Raynote Records—(MY) QUIET VILLAGE / RED DRESS and SILENT ISLAND / ONLY YOURS [for Side "A" of the latter platter she also wrote the lyrics(!)]—it appears that most of Darla's recordings were released on the Acama label. Acama singles included: *FLOWER OF LOVE / IT JUST FITS *THE LONG SILENCE / RAINY DAY IN ROME *UN MOMENTO MAS / SITTING BULL'S LAST STAND *RAINY DAY IN ROME / WITCH'S BREW *ANYTIME-ANYWHERE / HURT, HURT, HURT *AH, SWEET MYSTERY OF LOVE / I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE *I'M GONNA LAUGH RIGHT IN YOUR FACE / ONLY YOURS Wouldn't you like to hear them all? Join the He-Men Darla-Lovers Club. (If you're a chick, form your own club!) This video's intermission music features an excerpt from the song "I'm in the Mood for Love" as arranged by Jackie Gleason for a 1952 orchestral recording. Gleason (1916-1987) wanted to be remembered most for his musical arrangements; you can hear why.IMPORTANT: Questions or comments are sincerely welcome—but only if they are nice, clean, and comprehendible. Title: Homies Artist: LSOB Album: Greatest Hits Lyrics: Verse: 1 ( ODM ) Well you ask me what the definition of a homie is A friend till the end, but some start when you're kids Little traviesos that are always into something Doing something bad acting like they did nothing Well here's a little story about a homie named frankie Had another little homie that was down for hanky panky Sort of like Spanky and Alfalfa, Little Rascals Doing what they doing getting away without a hassle Like going to the schoolyard for your late passes to class Cutting in lunch lines leaving other students last And strolling to the movies to see a rated "R" When mom's dropped them off it's where ET would be the star Stealing was an issue that just could not be ignored Taking tapes and 45's from the local record store Being good kids to them was nothing but bologna Cause this is what you do when it's you and your homies Chorus Verse: 2 ( DTTX ) My situation with my homies wasn't all fun sometimes bad sometimes sad, but had to have one I wouldn't change it for a thing cause it's priceless Your homies are your down, yup! Can I get a righteous As kids, we saw and we did what most kids never did Took my first swig chilling at my homies crib Searching for ways, so that we could make presidents Life was hard beign a product of my residence But me beign the youngest, I had to stay strong Mom's was my teacher cause Pop's was already gone Hung out in the streets doing my own thing Living in the barrio ...
This was from the original score and done in it's entirety. Usually only the first part was done in the movies. There was an 85 year old lady sitting in front of me who was in those movies and she told us about her experiences- what a treat! Performed by the Crazy Rhythm Hot Society Orchestra at the Old Town Music Hall in El Segundo CA. This band was like listening to old 76 RPM records, without the hiss and scratches. It was a real treat for ears tired of all the garbage music of today. I filmed this using a Canon S5-IS hand held camera and had permission of venue owner.

Greetings ~ This time, I thought I would travel back in time, to when I was living in Los Angeles CA, as a kid. Where I watched many a Animé on a Channel named Channel 52... This was during the early days of TV, where it was in Black and White, and with (ONLY) 3 Main channels. BSC-TV (for Kaiser Broadcasting Southern California) - later called KBSC. Not only was the station on UHF during a period when few receivers were equipped to receive UHF broadcasts, there simply wasn't enough programming to go around even in a market as large as Los Angeles. The station operated on a half-day schedule, usually signing on in the early afternoon and leaving the air in the late evening. KBSC offered a general entertainment format with cartoons, film shorts, sitcoms, and old movies. Programming on weekday afternoons was aimed squarely at children, with Japanese cartoons dubbed into English including ~ Speed Racer, Kimba the White Lion, Ultraman, Johnny Sokko and Gigantor ~ along with compilations of comedy short subjects by The Three Stooges and The Little Rascals. Programs rarely flowed from one to the other; most of the children's programming was punctuated by long breaks consisting of a shot of the station's logo backed by the Bert Kaempfert single, That Happy Feeling. The logo, depicting a black number 52 joined together at the top within the shape of a white television screen (typical among most Kaiser stations) along with the call letters and cities of license together with the ...
[Please read] Carl Switzer in all his glory as "Alfie." The question you must answer: "Are we meant to take more than we give / or are we meant to be kind?"—Hal David... OR ...are cowlicks, freckles, and toothlessness "in" or "out"? A musing video uploaded in memory of Carl Switzer (1927-1959). At Hal Roach Studios (and later MGM), Carl was a one-of-a-kind child actor and "Our Gang's" resident hero and ham. Envy the boy crooner his definitive interpretations of many great standard songs like "She'll Be Coming 'Round the Mountain" and "Little Brown Jug." Envy the boy lothario his romantic conceit and would-be conquests (think Darla). Clips fondly culled from film producer Hal Roach's 1935-1938 "Our Gang" short films.IMPORTANT: Questions or comments are sincerely welcome—but only if they are nice, clean, and comprehendible. If you are a professional and prefer that I delete this video, please contact me and it will promptly be done. Submitted with goodwill and good cheer to Alfie's admiring audiences everywhere. Video also dedicated in memory of child actress Darla Hood and with great admiration for Anita Kerr, singer and music arranger nonpareil. The music for "Alfie" was composed by Burt Bacharach; lyrics by Hal David.

Reba McEntire plays AJ Ferguson in the move "The Little Rascals"
From Wikipedia ... Darla Hood (November 8, 1931 June 13, 1979) was an American child actress, best known for her lead roles in Our Gang (Little Rascals) shorts during the late 1930s and early 1940s. She was born in Leedey, Oklahoma, the only child of James Claude Hood and Elizabeth Davner. Her father worked in a bank and her mother was a music teacher ... When she outgrew her role in Our Gang, Hood appeared in a couple of other movies and attended school in Los Angeles. While at Fairfax High School, she organized a vocal group called the Enchanters with four boys. Shortly after graduation, the quartet was booked by producer and star Ken Murray for his famous "Blackouts", a stage variety show. The group remained with Murray's Blackouts during its long run in New York and Hollywood. Hood then went out on her own with singing engagements in nightclubs and guest appearances on TV. She was a regular on The Ken Murray Show from 1950 to 1951. In 1955, she was a leading lady in the act of ventriloquist Edgar Bergen. She had a hit record in 1957, "I Just Wanna Be Free", and appeared in the movie Calypso Heat Wave (1957) singing a duet with Johnny Desmond. She also recorded two songs with the Ray Whitaker Orchestra, "Only Yours" and "Silent Island", for RayNote Records. In January 1959, Hood released a new record, Quiet Village. Joe Rivkin, who discovered her as a child, saw the cover and cast her in her final film role, which was also her first adult role in a movie. She played a ...

A Lighter Shade of Brown (LSOB) was a Mexican American hip hop duo from Riverside, California best known for their 1991 hit single "On a Sunday Afternoon." LSOB was formed in 1990 by One Dope Mexican (Robert Gutierrez) and Don't Try to Xerox (Bobby Ramirez). They recorded demos and landed a record deal soon after with small independent label Pump. Their debut album, 1991's "Brown and Proud," brought the group their lone Top 40 single in the US with "On A Sunday Afternoon," which contained samples of The Young Rascals' 1967 hit "Groovin' " and peaked at #39 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song also went to #1 for 2 weeks in New Zealand. The duo provided songs for Latino-market movies such as Mi Vida Loca and I Like It Like That following the release of their second LP, 1992's '"Hip Hop Locos," which failed to chart. The success of "Sunday Afternoon" nonetheless resulted in Mercury Records signing the group and releasing their third disc, Layin' in the Cut, in 1994. The record did not sell as well as was hoped, peaking at #184 on the Billboard Top 200. LSOB went on a temporary hiatus, returning in 1997 on indie Thump Records. Their self-titled fourth album featured guest appearances from Rappin' 4-Tay and Dwayne Wiggins of Tony! Toni! Toné!. 1999 marked the last of their releases, including a greatest hits album and a non-charting single, "Sunny Day ...
[Please read] Ear wiggling--girls can't help falling in love with boys who can do it. Wheezer thinks it's ridiculous. Authors Leonard Maltin and Richard W. Bann rightly characterize "Wiggle Your Ears," a 1929 Our Gang short silent film as "an amusing but absolutely bizarre two-reeler." [from their book: THE LITTLE RASCALS: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF OUR GANG] That assessment is spot on in terms of both story and cinematography (the use of disarmingly extreme close-ups). In this video, you will see that ear-wiggler Harry Spear and blonde bombshell Jean Darling make a cute, but ultimately tragic couple. You will witness Mary Ann Jackson rising from the ashes of thankless toil and heartbreaking despair to fall in love with faux-ear-wiggler Joe Cobb. You will see a bemused contribution by Farina. Best of all, you will behold Bobby "Wheezer" Hutchins—willing to connive at deception by pulling Joe;s ear(s) with a string, but who remains absolutely (and wonderfully) unimpressed and derisive about everybody's actions. ("Wheezer" was Our Gang's resident raspberry expert.) These kids were cast members of Hal Roach's Our Gang on the eve of the motion-picture-sound revolution. They may have been succeeded by the most popular Rascals of all--eg Spanky, Darla, Alfalfa, Buckwheat, Porky, Butch, et al.--but they were no less charismatic and fun to watch. Their delightful work deserves public rediscovery. This video provides one means to that end.IMPORTANT: Questions or comments are sincerely ...

1940's Amateur Improvised Comedy from Queens, NY. Filmed by my Grandfather Gustave Martens at his home on 14th Avenue in College Point, and in Hermon MacNeil Park. Gus Martens and Percy Simpson played in a 1920's party band called Martens' Sterling Orchestra. (Gus drummed, Percy tickled the ivories). Gus was an only child, and you can see that Percy was like a brother to him. They remained buddies to the end. Grandpa wasn't above using a few silly camera tricks in his movies, so I've added a few tricks of my own, but most of the ones in this movie are Grandpa's. That's the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge seen faintly in the distance - it was brand new then! See more of Grandpa's movies (and mine too!) on this channel! I wanted to try something different though, so I decided to put together a bunch of Menudo videos and add audio clips from different tv shows, movies, commercials, and even songs. I just wanted to do a video that will entertain Menudo fans and also remind us of all the crazy things the guys did on kyte. Please note that I am NOT making fun of the guys in any way. I'm a Huge fan of Menudo and I'm pretty sure that most of you know that already. So this whole video is made out of pure love for the guys. Hope you like!!! [Please read] The question you must answer: is he too fat for you? This video's star is Norman "Chubby" Chaney, a featured player in film producer Hal Roach's "Our Gang"/("Little Rascals") comedy shorts in the late '20s/early '30s. This video features clips from most of Chubby's film appearances. Spike Jones (and his City Slickers) and The Andrews Sisters "lend" their voices here and there as well as do the instruments of the talented players of the Beau Hunks Orchestra. This video was brewed in a humorous spirit, with a twist of "wink." Charge me with mischief combined with a fondness for Chubbs-—I am guilty. Accuse me not of malice or insensitivity for neither charge will stick.IMPORTANT: Questions or comments are sincerely welcome—but only if they are nice, clean, and comprehendible. If you are a professional and prefer that I delete this video, please contact me and it will promptly be done. PERSONAL NOTE TO EVERY INDIVIDUAL VIEWER: Thanks sincerely for playing this video. I'm glad and grateful if you enjoyed it. I think my own favorite "Chubby moments" are his interactions with Jean Darling and Mary Ann Jackson.
