Every man who ever sang did it to impress a woman.. Teddy took that art to its ultimate level.. I read that a gunfight broke out at one of his shows over a sweaty headband he tossed into the crowd.. Such is the power of sexuality and music combined, when presented perfectly, as he did it... Calling Teddy the 'Black Elvis" is no stretch. He set the standard. Every man who is a singing idol of women owes a debt to the late great Teddy.. I humbly offer my tribute. RIP..

Teddy Pendergrass, who became R&B's reigning sex symbol in the 1970s and '80s with his passionate love ballads and later became an inspirational figure after a car accident that left him paralyzed, died Wednesday at age 59. (Jan. 14) His voice, his live performances, those classic songs — Teddy Pendergrass left a rich legacy. The legendary R&B singer, who died on Wednesday of colon cancer at the age of 59, left a lasting influence that has been evident since his star began to sparkle in the 1970s. Kanye West sampled Pendergrass from his Harold Melvin and the Blue Note days on Jay-Z's "This Can't Be Life." When Usher guest-starred on Cam'ron's "Feels Good," he mirrored Pendergrass' hook from "When Somebody Loves You Back." Many others, from Nelly to Mobb Deep, have used Teddy's music. And on Thursday morning (January 14), the music community took to Twitter to display their love for the great singer. "RIP Teddy Pendergrass — my latest greatest inspiration," Outkast's Big Boi wrote. Tyrese, who showed a twitpic of him with the soul legend at Pendergrass' wedding, wrote a series of messages. "I'M SAD," he said. "I was just informed from Teddy Pendergrass' wife that Teddy is no longer us with us ... Rest in heaven." "Celebrate our legends while they're still with us," Tyrese urged.
