Share this video using the buttons below. facebook.com General Stanley McChrystal told press on March 9, 2010 that the plan in Kandahar was to do outreach in advance of a planned offensive to ensure that the greater part of the population "is pulling us in and supportive so that we're not only doing what they want but we're operating in a way that they're comfortable with." However, when he and Afghan President Hamid Karzai met with local elders earlier this month, they said they didn't want a new offensive in their area and that they did not support the planned military operation. McChrystal's plan suffered a further blow when a US troop strafed a civilian passenger bus, killing at least 4 and injuring 18. Hundreds gathered in protest shouting "death to America!" In other words, the Kandahar population supports a) what McChrystal is doing and b) the way they're doing it...right? Counterinsurgency, meet reality. Had enough? Join us: facebook.com

Lieutenant General Nick Parker, ISAF Deputy Commander in Afghanistan, expresses his regret for the tragic incident and says a joint investigation is being conducted in Uruzgan Province. www.isaf.nato.int JOINT PRESS RELEASE GOVERNMENT OF THE ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF AFGHANISTAN INTERNATIONAL SECURITY ASSISTANCE FORCE 2010-02-CA-006 For Immediate Release KABUL, Afghanistan (Feb. 22) - Yesterday a group of suspected insurgents, believed to be en route to attack a joint Afghan-ISAF unit, was engaged by an airborne weapons team resulting in a number of individuals killed and wounded. After the joint ground force arrived at the scene and found women and children, they transported the wounded to medical treatment facilities. ISAF has ordered an immediate investigation. "We are extremely saddened by the tragic loss of innocent lives. I have made it clear to our forces that we are here to protect the Afghan people, and inadvertently killing or injuring civilians undermines their trust and confidence in our mission. We will re-double our efforts to regain that trust." said General Stanley McChrystal, Commander of NATO ISAF. General McChrystal spoke last evening with President Karzai and expressed his sorrow and regret for the tragic incident and pledged to fully partner with the joint investigation.
www.timesofearth.com Kabul - Nato has expressed its "deep regret" over the loss of civilian lives in its offensive against the Taliban in the town of Marjah in southern Afghanistan. Despite the deaths of 12 civilians, officials appeared pleased with the Marjah campaign's progress, with Afghan officials saying on Monday that almost total control of the area had been wrested from the Taliban. "Marjah has been almost cleared and our forces are in control," General Mohammad Zahir Azimi, the Afghan defence ministry spokesman, said. "There are some small-scale, sporadic firefights. We are mostly busy with clearing the area of IEDs [Improvised Explosive Devices]. The operation is nearing its end." General Aminullah Patiani, the senior Afghan commander in the operation, echoed that "all of the areas of Marjah and Nad Ali have been taken by combined forces". "Much of Marjah is safe enough for dignitaries to visit. Forces have set up a cordon of three kilometres around the town and they are trying to extend that cordon." But the offensive, known as Operation Moshtarak, was overshadowed on Sunday by the death of 12 Afghan civilians killed when two rockets missed their target and landed on homes in Nad Ali district, where Marjah is located. Nato acknowledged responsibility for the deaths. General Stanley McChrystal, the head of US and Nato forces in Afghanistan, called the loss of life "regrettable" and said the operation was being conducted with "the protection of Afghan people in ...

RT military analyst Yevgeny Khrushchev says the new US war strategy, could be influenced by the private interests of conflict profiteers. While the Obama administration is figuring out it's next step in Afghanistan, the US military death toll in the country has risen to 839.
Colonel David Wakefield is the new spokesman for Taskforce Helmand. It's too early for 11 Brigade to talk in detail about the Troop Uplift announced today, but when we spoke to him from Lashkar Gah, he told us the Brigade's strategy will be firmly aligned with the recent report from ISAF Commander, General Stanley McChrystal.
Here is video of Gen. Stanley McChrystal's comments in London on October 1, 2009, that have supposedly angered the White House and are leading to accusations that he has been "insubordinate" and has "not followed the chain of command." If you listen to the video you will see that McChrystal was asked a question about Afghanistan strategy, and whether the Allies can now just use predator drones to target Al Qaeda rather than having boots on the ground seeking to prevent the Taliban from retaking control of Afghanistan. McChrystal said "No," and explained why. He never mentioned Obama, Joe Biden, but strictly answered the question asked. It would appear the enemies of McChrystal's assessment that we need more troops on Afghanistan are taking this and trying to destroy him because they don't agree with him, under the guise that he has been "insubordinate." He has not been.
