Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) recently announced plans to acquire Infineon Technology's wireless division and security software provider McAfee as part of the company's attempt to become a force in the mobile computing world, according to a Computerworld report. However, several analysts questioned whether spending billions of dollars on the two companies and others, as well as revving up the MeeGo mobile operating system with Nokia (NYSE:NOK), can be enough to make a difference for Intel. Gartner analyst Ken Dulaney said that Intel is "not yet a force in mobile, and historically they have been unsuccessful." He was unwilling to predict how the company will do in the market. Dulaney added that Intel "never mastered" that energy-efficient architecture. However, he did but he did acknowledge that Intel's next version of its Atom chip, called Medfield, "may be on the verge of improving power management."SmarTrend alerted subscribers to take profits in Intel on August 11, 2010 at $19.44, since then the stock fell 9.1%. We are now watching for any positive developments that could result in a new uptrend signal.

Intel Corp. (NASDAQ:INTC), the world's largest chipmaker, is nearing a deal to acquire Infineon Technologies AG's wireless business, according to three sources familiar with the deal. An announcement could be made as early as this week the sources indicated. Infineon, which is Europe's second-largest chipmaker, is looking for about $1.91 billion for its wireless business, two of the sources said. An acquisition of the unit, which is responsible for creating processors used in Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone, comes in the wake of Intel's (NASDAQ:INTC) $7.68 billion acquisition of McAfee, which was announced on August 19th. Intel CEO Paul Otellini has turned to the acquisition strategy to get its chips into a wider range of hardware. Intel's chips can be found in over 80% of the world's computers, but they fall short in the phone industry.SmarTrend alerted subscribers to take profits in Intel on August 11, 2010 at $19.44, since then the stock fell 6.1%. We are now watching for any positive developments that could result in a new uptrend signal.

Cameron Diaz tops the list as the most dangerous celebrity to search for online, according to data from McAfee, Inc. (NYSE:MFE). One in ten websites featuring the actress include harmful software that could steal user passwords and other information, as well as infect a user's computer with a virus. McAfee Labs' director of security research Dave Marcus told AbcNews.com, "They know that people want to have screensavers of popular individuals, They follow hot topics on the web and create their poisonous content accordingly. This relates to a larger trend of using social engineering lures. A lot of times a cyber criminal will mine Twitter, or follow Google [NASDAQ:GOOG] Trends, to poison those links. It's very clear they will use news trends to lure." Trailing behind Diaz is "Eat Pray Love" star Julia Roberts in second place, last year's top most dangerous celeb Jessica Biel, and supermodel Gisele Bundchen in fourth. But let's not forget about the dangerous A-list men. "Brad Pitt is historically one of the most dangerous celebrities to search on," added Marcus. "He's always up there." SmarTrend currently has McAfee in a Downtrend and is currently monitoring these developments to alert subscribers to any change of trend. Shares of the security solutions firm are trading up 57.20% Thursday afternoon at $47.05.

Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) has announced that it will acquire PC security firm McAfee (NYSE:MFE) for $48 per share in cash. The deal values McAfee at $7.68 billion and the price is a 60% premium to yesterday's close. Intel President and CEO Paul Otellini said, "With the rapid expansion of growth across a vast array of Internet-connected devices, more and more of the elements of our lives have moved online...The addition of McAfee products and technologies into the Intel computing portfolio brings us incredibly talented people with a track record of delivering security innovations, products and services that the industry and consumers trust to make connecting to the Internet safer and more secure." On an adjusted basis, Intel expects he deal to be slightly accretive in the first year, and improve beyond that.

Anti-virus firm McAfee has had to issue an apology after a bug laden update crashed thousands of computers around the world. The update mistakenly identified a widely used windows file as a virus and took action to quarantine it resulting in many affected computers endlessly restarting. The problem mainly hit corporate customers running Windows XP, although some individuals also reported problems. One of the worst affected companies was Intel where a spokesman said that the problem had been 'significant'. McAfee released a replacement update within hours and said that only one half of one percent of corporate users had been affected.
Recent update causes computer to reboot over and over. An update from security company McAfee released Wednesday caused computers using Microsoft's Windows XP Service Pack 3 to incorrectly identify a legitimate operating system component as containing a virus.
