Karna (Sanskrit: कर्ण written Karṇa in IAST transliteration) is one of the central characters in the epic Mahābhārata from ancient India. He was the King of Anga (present day Bhagalpur). Karna is considered to be one of the greatest warrior of Mahābhārata by authorities including Krishna and Bhishma, as stated in the original text by Maharishi Ved Vyasa.[1][2][3][4] He was the son of Surya (the Sun god) and Kunti. He was born to Kunti, before her marriage with Pandu. He is described as the closest friend of Duryodhana. Karna fought on his behalf against the Pandavas (his brothers) at the Kurukshetra war. Karna fought against misfortune throughout his life and kept his word under all circumstances. Many admire him for this courage and generosity. It is believed that Karna founded the city of Karnal. en.wikipedia.org

We head to New Delhi, where at the DSC university, Professor Alka Tyagi speaks with her students about the conflicts that the greatest warrior of the Mahabharata, Arjuna has. She also discusses the conversation which Arjuna has with lord Krishna just before the great war of Mahabharata takes place at Kurukshetra. This conversation between the two is a chapter in the Mahabharata called ' The Bhagavad Gita'. She explains them about the symbolism in this tale. Thus she tells how the carriage of Arjuna and the symbols within the carriage such as: the wheels, the horses, the path, the destination, the rider and charioteer (driver) are all metaphors of life, and that each of us faces a challenge in our modern life. What is the spiritual significance of the battle which is described in the Bhagavad Gita for people of the here and now?

In order to understand this series, it is imperative to read the following work of Lokamanya Bâl Gangâdhar Tilak THE ARCTIC HOME IN THE VEDAS @ www.vaidilute.com -That human races have preserved their ancient traditions is undoubted, though some or many of them may have become distorted in course of time, and it is for us to see if they do or do not accord with what we know of the ancient man from latest scientific researches. The Mahabharata (Sanskrit Mahābhārata महाभारत) is one of the two major Sanskrit epics of ancient India, the other being the Rāmāyaṇa. The epic is part of the Hindu itihāsa (or "history"), and forms an important part of Hindu mythology. It is of immense importance to culture in the Indian subcontinent, and is a major text of Hinduism. Its discussion of human goals (dharma or duty, artha or purpose, kāma, pleasure or desire and moksha or liberation) takes place in a long-standing tradition, attempting to explain the relationship of the individual to society and the world (the nature of the 'Self') and the workings of karma. The title may be translated as "the great tale of the Bhārata dynasty". According to the Mahabharata's own testimony it is extended from a shorter version simply called Bhārata of 24000 verses. Traditionally, the authorship of the Mahabharata is attributed to Vyasa. There have been many attempts to unravel its historical growth and composition layers. Its earliest layers probably date back to the late Vedic period (ca. 8th c. BCE) and it probably reached its final form by the time the Gupta period began (ca. 4th c. CE). With about one hundred thousand verses, long prose passages, and about 1.8 million words in total, the Mahabharata is the longest epic poem in the world. It is roughly ten times the length of the Iliad and Odyssey combined, roughly five times longer than Dante's Divine Comedy, and about four times the length of the Ramayana ...

4th c. CE).
