Who says Muslims don't have a sense of humour? Of course, if you are the type who vomits venomous hate, whilst the media fuels your minuscule, narrow-minded brain... ...that comment will be lost on you. Just go back and watch the news or X Factor or whatever. I love the Maldives and the people. This video makes me want to go and visit them. microman780 Added 30/10/10: Some of the comments by people here, crack me up just as much as the video did the first time i saw it. I posted the video and the deliberately "Provocative" description to engender a debate. I have to say, you have'nt let me down! Muslim bashing is alive and well. Your comments have made this channel the most "viewed" and "discussed" channel on youtube. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. Even though some of them are plain dumb! Some are intelligent, touching and inspirational. Thanks God bless you all. Added 31/10/2010 Comments left by user "ttowntom" which sum up my views. @CharlieBrown: "Any group of people that felt a socialite was stepping off of their pedestal to slum with them would want to turn the tables". A very astute observation. As a tourist myself, I've seen this countless times. A similar experience once happened to me...and it was in a predominantly Catholic country, not an Islam one. It's nothing but simple human nature. @duffys, I think it does matter. This couple didn't want a legal, official, binding ceremony. They wanted something "quaint", with "local color". Had they ...

Ari Atoll is one of natural atolls of the Maldives. It is one of the biggest atolls and is located in the west of the archipelago. The almost rectangular alignment spreads the islands over an area of about 89x30 kilometres. It has been divided in two sections for administrative purposes, Northern Ari Atoll and Southern Ari Atoll consisting of 105 islands. Ari Atoll is part of the zone designated for tourist development in the Maldives. It is roughly a 30 minute seaplane flight away from the Capital Malé. There are more than 20 islands in the Atoll designated for tourist resorts. Each island resort is self-contained with accommodation and recreational facilities such as tennis court. Scuba diving is the most popular tourist activity in the Maldives. The diving in Ari Atoll is extensive and is often defined by location within the atoll, either North or South. The main tourist resorts were Ari Beach, Halaveli, Maayyafushi, Twin Islands Resort, Dhoni Mighilli and Twin Island Resort. ( source Wikipedia )

Maldives April 2010 Running time 3 mins 16 sec Video I took during a week in the Maldives in April 2010. We didn't do much, which of course is the point of staying on a tiny tropical island - you can stroll around Velassaru with your feet in the sea in less than 20 minutes. We divided our time between sitting on the beach, swimming and snorkelling in the lagoon, keeping cool in our bungalow during the fierce midday sun, more swimming and beach-bathing, before eating exquisite food every evening and doing it all again the next day. There were some majestic thunderstorms at night which lit up the sea like daytime and reminded us that we were on a tiny speck in the middle of the vast Indian Ocean. There was also a day when it rained heavily for an hour, which freshened the air a little, but mainly it was baking hot, bright, sunny, and most important of all, peaceful. Stationed along the beach were three (according to my book of Sri Lankan birds) Western Sea Egrets. When not resting in the shade of a beach umbrella, they would occasionally catch a tiny black and white sea snake or some little fish from the waters edge, all the while keeping an eye on the other egrets making sure they weren't encroaching on their bit of beach. Foraging through the undergrowth were White-breasted Waterhens. Cute and utterly tame birds that were our almost constant companions. There was lots of other wildlife as well; fruit bats, ghost crabs, various lizards, and of course, a great abundance of ...
Representatives from the Afghan government, the Taliban and a number of other armed groups have gathered in the Maldives for talks aimed at reaching a political reconciliation in Afghanistan. The delegates all say they are not officially representing anyone, but that their leaders are aware of their attendance at the talks. But with discussions ranging from the need for fresh elections to the future of foreign troops in the country, some say there is little optimism about the outcome of the talks. Al Jazeera's Dan Nolan reports. [20 May 10]

The fragile marine environment of the Indian Ocean is under serious threat from the effects of climate change. In the Maldives, some of the giants of the open seas are becoming endangered because their food supply is dying out. Stephen Cole reports from the Maldives.
On 09 November, 2009, President Mohamed Nasheed of the Maldives addressed ministers and leaders from a number of the most vulnerable countries in the world to climate change. In his speech, he invited those leaders to join him in signing a pact for the survival of their countries, instead of a "suicide pact" at the UN climate talks in Copenhagen. 350.org -- Read the full speech text and sign the survival pact! It stretches almost 1000 kilometres from north to south in the Indian Ocean, south-west of the Indian subcontinent. Only 198 of the islands are permanently inhabited, although many others have been developed into tourist resorts. For the 360000 inhabitants, tourism has become the biggest industry, accounting for almost 30% of national income and more than 60% of foreign currency.
