Isn't circumcision just a little snip? In a typical infant boy, the foreskin is a double-sided sleeve of skin and soft mucosal tissue that completely encloses the glans (the head of the penis). It is actually physically bonded to the infant's glans. This skin contains thousands of blood vessels and specialized nerves. In an adult, it would grow to cover 12-15 square inches. Circumcision removes this part of the penis. The operator forces a metal clamp inside the foreskin, and tears the skin away from the glans. The operator then slices the foreskin down past the glans and cuts the foreskin off. The entire procedure is excruciatingly painful. Infant circumcision is performed without adequate anesthesia, since anesthetizing such a young infant can be very dangerous. Partial or complete amputation of the penis sometimes occurs. Some children even die from the trauma, hemorrhage, or other complications. What is the value of the foreskin? The foreskin has protective, sensory, biomechanical, and immunological functions. Throughout life, the outer part of the foreskin protects the sensitive inner part of the foreskin and the glans from injury, abrasion, chafing, and infection. The foreskin keeps its mucosal tissue and the glans soft and moist so that it maintains sensitivity. During sexual activity, the foreskin glides up and down over the glans, providing sensation from thousands of specialized nerve endings in the inner foreskin. A gentle guy holds forth on why male circumcision is bad for so many reasons. It's genital mutilation which, while nowhere near as bad as female circumcision, certainly shouldn't be done to an unsuspecting and non-consenting newborne. He explains how circumcision greatly interferes with later sexual pleasure, both for the male and female, and even how its linked to the Middle East's warriors: Jews, Muslims, and Americans! He maintains that allowing male circumcision is a gateway to the religious justification for female circumcision. He also covers, so to speak, AIDS, masturbation, the foreskin industry, and Oprah. At the end, he shares his view that circumcision is x-rated: no one under 18 should be allowed to do this, and certainly shouldn't have it done to them while a minor. I came upon this display at a spot on the US Capitol lawn usually occupied by opponents of legal abortion. I started out skeptical of the guy, David Wilson, whose mother is Bahaman and father US Navy. In his Uncle Sam/Dr Zuess hat, he initially appears to be a complete eccentric. But by the end I found him charming and compelling. It made me glad that back in the day my wife convinced me to leave our newborn son whole. In my opinion, religious dogma and/or a father's egotistic view that his son should "look like dada" are not excuses to cut a baby!
After release of the results of the 3 medical male circumcision trials conducted in Uganda, Kenya and South Africa, WHO and UNAIDS recommended Male Circumcision to be added onto the HIV prevention package of ABC. Rakai Health Sciences Program therefore funded the production of an MC promotion song which was done by Stephen Mugamba and Jemima Sanyu. Study Shows Circumcision Won't Stop HIV Transmission Between Men www.realjock.com In late August the New York Times reported that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) were considering, for the first time, issuing a recommendation on male circumcision. Speculation abounded that they would recommend circumcision of boys (and in some high-risk cases, adult men) to help prevent STD transmission, in particular HIV.
