While female-to-male transgender visibility has recently exploded in this country, conversations about trans issues in the lesbian community often run into resistance from the many queer women who view transitioning as a "trend" or as an anti-feminist act that taps into male privilege. Boy I Am is a feature-length documentary that begins to break down that barrier and promote dialogue about trans issues through a look at the experiences of three young transitioning FTMs in New York City--Nicco, Norie and Keegan--as they go through major junctures in their transitions, as well as through the voices of lesbians, activists and theorists who raise and address the questions that many people have but few openly discuss.

Aired 27th April 2007 A report on some of the youngest transgender kids, including a six-year-old girl who was born a boy, a 10-year-old boy who lives as a girl and a 16-year-old-boy who was born a girl. Barbara Walters talks to these transgender children, all diagnosed with gender identity disorder (GID), as well as to their parents, who are allowing their children to live in the gender they identify with in order to save them from a future of heartache and pain. They are sharing their personal stories to increase future understanding of transgender children.
As experts consider a review of UK guidelines for treating transgender children, this film follows a number of children in the US who told their parents they were born in the wrong body. In America, children under 16 can be prescribed hormone 'blockers' to prevent the onset of puberty, with a view to then follow with hormone treatment to become their new gender. This film follows the American experience. Eight-year-old Josie was born a boy but has been living as a girl for two years since revealing the full extent of his feelings about his identity to his mother. Kyla is also eight. She was born a boy but loves anything pink and sparkly, has grown his hair, and is preparing to return for school after summer dressed as a girl for the first time. She says: 'If I had to wear boys' clothes and be a boy for the rest of my life, I'd probably die.' They have both been diagnosed with gender dysphoria. Sixteen-year-old Chris, who was born a girl, started testosterone treatment at 14. He now has a deep voice and plentiful body hair, and shaves regularly. These children and their parents reveal what it is like to face life-changing questions, giving a frank insight into a subject most people never have to consider.

Jon is a typical teenage boy in all respects except one: he was born a girl. Brought up as Natasha for 15 years, Jon can remember feeling male since he was only five years old. Having grown up always feeling different to the girls in school, it was impossible to identify as female. Jon eventually confided in his mother Luisa, who supported him in seeking help from his GP and subsequently a gender specialist. He has been diagnosed with gender dysphoria, a condition that affects over 100 British children every year, and is embarking on an extraordinary journey of transition. Director Julia Moon follows mother and son through the first three months of Jon's life-changing treatment as the testosterone pushes his female body into male puberty. For Jon the changes that follow are things he's always wanted. But for Luisa, this means coming to terms with the enormous loss of her daughter.

A year in the making, this ground-breaking two-part series tells the story of four female-to-male transsexuals - all at different stages of the process of changing sex to become men. From their struggles to get treatment, the dramatic effects of testosterone as their voices drop and they transform into men, the radical surgery to reshape their chests and create a penis, and the impact that their sex-changes have on their friends, family and lovers. MAKE ME A MAN takes us into a previously hidden world of female-to-male transsexuals. I wasn't like my sisters growing up. They wore make-up and got on with it. I always wanted to live my life differently. And I always wanted to grow up to be a man. -- Stephen

I want to live in a world where I am free to be whoever I want to be, whenever I want to be, male, female, other or neither... or both. My name is Manuel, My name is Marion....
VoilĂ ! Here I am, celebrating my 8 months under HRT. I look slimmer and feminine, primerly, because my weight lost, until now, 37 pounds, most muscle mass. Hormones has changed my body, my skin, my fat deposits on my face, etc. But the most my attitude, my mind. It seems that now, it merge perfectly with my female soul. Actually in the spiritual realm, where we all coming from, gender doesn't play any role, it doesn't exist anymore. We are not male or female, we are just energy. But in the play room, in this film called "Life", we have a body, a phisical presence that help us to interreact with the world. Be aware how you use it, how you write your lines. The only rule is to think and act by Respect and Love toward others and yourself, defend an idea, have a purpose. "Then you will have a life". Marion
My own theory as to why some men prefer pre-op male-to-female transsexuals to genetic women, and how such a sexual interest might develop starting at a young age.

This story aired on ABC, on tuesday July 21 2009, on Primetime: Family Secrets. The show tells of the aftermath of a male-to-female transsexual's decision to become a woman, showing how she tries to negociate her marriage and her family now that she has transitioned into a full-fledge female. You want a sex-change? I would recommend you don't go to Dr. Pierre Brassard in Montreal, unless you want to run the risk of being very unhappy with the surgery, or even run the the risk of dying. If there is just one of these videos that you watch, it should be this one. I interview Randi and Shellie from Phoenix, Arizona. Randi just recently transitioned successfully from male to female while on the job, and her relationship with her spouse Shellie has withstood the test of time. Shellie and Randi explain some of those reasons, and they encourage anyone who is transgendered / transsexual, or is a friend, family member,or spouse of someone who is transgendered, that they can hold on to hope and overcome the trials that come your way.
(Daily News on www.parsnewz.com ) A Thai school has created toilets for its transgender students with a sign that's half male, half female. The Kamphaeng School in Si Sa Ket, in northeastern Thailand opened separate toilet facilities to accommodate hundreds of transgender students who have always longed for their own restroom. Helen Long reports.SOUNDBITES: # Sittisak Sumontha, Kamphaeng School Direction, saying (Thai): "When they used the male toilets, they would be teased so they would just go to the female toilets with their female friends. When I saw that, I wondered if the girls felt uncomfortable . When I asked the female students how they felt about it they told me that it all depended on whether the transgender students were their friends or not." # Wichai Saengsakul, Transgender student, saying (Thai): "I want them (school officials) to decorate the toilet to make it better than this. Something like, painting the toilet pink because it suits us - maybe a flower pattern."
Updated version: www.youtube.com Hello everyone, this is my first voice video where I try to give some tips as a beginner in making more voice more feminine if you are male to female like me. I purposely made the video quality crappy and hard to see at this point - I'm not quite ready to expose myself that much yet at this point - the voice is the more important part anyway right? I start off talking about half the video in my normal voice, then switch to what I'm working on. Hopefully this helps those who haven't gotten started on their voicework yet. It's not exactly all that great, but I hope for a first it helps.
