"Sita Sings the Blues" is based on the Hindu epic "The Ramayana". Sita is a goddess separated from her beloved Lord and husband Rama. Nina Paley is an animator whose husband moves to India, then dumps her by email. Three hilarious shadow puppets narrate both ancient tragedy and modern comedy in this beautifully animated interpretation of the Ramayana. Set to the 1920's jazz vocals of torch singer Annette Hanshaw, Sita Sings the Blues earns its tagline as "the Greatest Break-Up Story Ever Told." Full Moon has a deep spiritual importance and high religious significance among the tribesmen in India. In Dang District of Gujarat, thousands of tribals gather to celebrate the Full Moon day. In the month of April, the Full Moon day is observed as Chaitra Poonam (Chaitra is a month in the Hindu calendar). The two day Full Moon celebration is like a joyous festive time for all the tribesmen and women. Rudaali (one of the most popular folk operatic performance traditions) is organized in the night before the Full Moon day. Rudaali is simply an entertaining way to spread message of social and environmental awareness. Storylines of traditional Rudaali range from mythological and folk tales to issues related to their local environment, flora and fauna. The performers sing songs about the nature; pray mother earth, urge their Goddess (Tulaja Bhawani) for blessings, peace, good health and prosperity. The life style of these indigenous tribesmen, rituals, their herbal treatment methodologies, fitness mantra, sustainability lessons and much more are there to learn from them. We as a team of Abhumka Herbal Pvt Ltd (www.abhumka.com and www.patalkot.com) feel proud to be associated with these indigenous tribal groups. This dance is performed on MADAL song in which they pray to GOD for the well being of their community and pay gratitude to their mountains, rivers, plants and trees. This video is taken during the recent herb exploration trip to Dangs by Team Abhumka. Interestingly, Manish Singh and Dr Deepak Acharya (Directors, Abhumka Herbal Pvt Ltd) also tried to match the steps and enjoyed the dance.

A popular SoBo bookstore came alive with melodious notes on Monday evening. No, the book store has not swapped its literary offerings for musical ones! It was just one of those unique evenings when Manish Acharya's latest filmi venture was kickstarted with an enthusiastically-participated-in, impromptu singing contest! Manish bared his heart about this venture of his, saying, "I wanted to make this occasion as special and memorable as I could." Doing the honours were ace actress Shabana Azmi (looking like a quintessential diva in a bright green sari with a traditional batua) and DJ Suketu. Shabana was the encouraging and enthusiastic judge for the talented participats in this contest even as she said, "There is so much talent hidden in the nooks and corners of our country, that I'm glad that they're getting due recognition or at least a platform to exhibit their skills through the many reality shows that we have today. I'm happy to be judging one such cute 'reality talent hunt' this evening wherein I promise to be a good judge!" Present on the occasion were artist Dhruvi Acharya (who lent her avid support to hubby Manish all through the evening); artists Jaideep Mehrotra (who came to cheer on his friend Manish) and Ananya Bannerjee (who was seen revelling in the musical soirée) and Homi Adjania (who made a cool style statement in a baby-pink tee and cargo capris!).

Abhumka Herbal Private Limited documents traditional herbal knowledge of healers from various remote tribal pockets in India. This video is taken during scouting and documentation in Dang District of South Gujarat. Healers known as Bhagats share their expertise about herbs and discusses few very important herbal formulations with Manish Singh and Dr Anshu Shrivastava. Similar tasks of scouting and documentation of indigenous knowledge are being carried out in various other remote pockets of India ie Patalkot (Chhindwara district in Madhya Pradesh) and Sawai Madhopur (in Rajasthan).
