MANILA , Philippines -- Filipino-American Tim Lincecum became the highest-paid pitcher in his first year of eligibility in Major League Baseball (MLB) after signing a $23 million two-year deal with the San Francisco Giants. According to a report by SFGate.com, the 25-year-old Lincecum will earn $8 million this season, aside from getting a $1 million signing bonus. He will also earn $13 million plus another $1 million bonus the following year. Lincecum, known in the baseball scene as The Freak, effectively avoided arbitration by signing the deal. The 2-time Cy Young awardee had sought $13 million this season through the arbitration process, and the Giants countered with $8 million. "It's a win-win for both sides," Giants assistant general manager Bobby Evans told SFGate.com. "Whenever there's a settlement, it's in the interest of both parties." Lincecum topped the record set by Boston closer Jonathan Papelbon who signed for $6.25 million last year. Other revenues Other potential revenues the Fil-Am can earn include: $200000 for pitching 225 innings; $500000 for each Cy Young Award, $250000 for second, $100000 for third, $75000 for fourth, $50000 for fifth; $100000 each time he makes All-Star; $100000 for National League MVP; $75000 for World Series MVP; $50000 for National League Championship Series MVP. Lincecum is nicknamed as "The Franchise" or "The Freak" for his long stride, unorthodox mechanics, and ability to generate a high-velocity baseball pitch despite his build ...
