The controversial postal voting system in the United Kingdom has come under fire again after it emerged today that about 50 cases of fraud are allegedly being investigated. With just over a day to go before polls open in one of the most closely contested elections for more than a generation, many are concerned the final result will be tainted with mistrust. Postal voting was traditionally available to those living overseas, or those physically unable to reach a polling station due to say, ill-health. But this option was recently opened to the general public. This isn't the first time critics have said false names were being added to the electoral register by local candidates looking for extra votes. Fareena Alam has this report from London. Afghan authorities conducted a massive crackdown on news reports of Taliban attacks during elections as part of a desperate attempt to boost voter turnout. A government spokesperson said local journalists who defied the ban would be put out of business, while foreign media would be kicked out if they did not respect the decision.
Accusations have escalated of vote rigging in Afghanistan's election while ballots are still being counted from last Thursday's vote. But the Afghan president's main challenger says he has evidence of widespread electoral fraud and has filed more than a hundred complaints.
