Preeminent author and researcher of Mayan culture and the 2012 phenomenon, John Major Jenkins joins us to discuss the origin of the 2012 idea, how it has developed, what it means, and how we can work with it today. Jenkins shows us how the Mayan 2012 prophecy is a misnomer, and is actually an astronomical science of great galactic cycles that appear to coincide with periods of transformation. We are in the culmination of such a cycle right now... Interviewed by Luke Hancock Website: alignment2012.com www.grahamhancock.com BIOGRAPHY: John Major Jenkins is an independent researcher who has devoted himself to reconstructing ancient Mayan cosmology and philosophy. Since 1986, John has traveled to Mexico and Central America seven times. In 1990 he helped build a school in San Pedro, near Lake Atitlan in Guatemala. In 1994 he delivered relief supplies to a Quiché Maya community in the Western highlands of Guatemala. Since beginning his odyssey of research and discovery with the Maya, John has authored dozens of articles and many books, including: * Journey to the Mayan Underworld (Four Ahau Press, Boulder, CO: 1989) * Mirror in the Sky (Four Ahau Press, 1991) * Tzolkin: Visionary Perspectives and Calendar Studies (Borderland Sciences Research Foundation, Garberville, CA: 1992/1994) * Mayan Sacred Science (Four Ahau Press, Boulder, CO: 1994) * Maya Cosmogenesis 2012 (Bear & Company, Santa Fe, NM: 1998)

Robert Sitler's first exposure to the genius of Maya culture came in 1976 while hiking in the rainforests of Chiapas. Since then, he has spent as much time as possible in the Maya world, visiting regularly among natives from more than a dozen language groups. He completed a PhD from the University of Texas at Austin in 1994 with a dissertation on Maya-related literature under the guidance of the late preeminent Mayanist, Dr. Linda Schele. Bob is currently a professor at Stetson University in DeLand, Florida and serves as Director of its Latin American Studies Program, teaching courses in Spanish and Maya culture. His long-standing relationships with the Maya and their humble wisdom inform and inspire this book. The author's personal experiences with Maya have been complemented by formal study of Maya culture and exploration of its ancient cities. He is a regular participant in professional meetings with Maya scholars in Guatemala and the United States. Recently he has focused on the significance of year 2012 in the Maya Long Count and the Guatemalan highland community of Todos Santos Cuchumatán. His CV includes numerous academic articles and presentations concerning Maya culture and the year 2012. In particular, he has worked to include more Maya perspectives in the discourse on the significance of 2012. He travels frequently to the most remote corners of Mexico and Guatemalan to learn from elders in various Maya language communities. The diversity and depth of Bob's ...
Archaeologists have recently discovered what may be the world's largest pyramid by volume under the canopy of the rain forest and buried under dense vegetation. What is more enlightening and significant of the people and culture is what is revealed inside. Inside this Mayan temple are writings depicting the creation story known as the Popul Vuh engraved in a Mayan temple in El Mirador, Guatamala. It was previously thought that the Popul Vuh was influenced by Catholic church after Columbus historical discovery of America. However, these markings appear to pre-date Columbus by more than 1000 years. So how did the creation story and other influences find their way into Mayan culture if it this was originally built in 300BC? What I found interesting is that this single Mayan city is larger in size than modern-day downtown Los Angeles. This new discovery of information correlates with the stories and historical record included in the writings of the Book of Mormon. For one thing in the Book of Mormon the connection to Jerusalem and what is now known as the Old Testament records including the books of Genesis, Exodus and so on were kept on 'plates of brass' and passed from generation to generation and which were considered sacred. Writings on the walls of most temples it is safe to say typically are sacred and considered worth featuring upon such a monumental undertaking as the greatest pyramid by volume known to exist anywhere in the world. This is an example of an extremely ...

2012 Mayan Prophesy on History Channel This Thursday August 3rd, 9 pm, the History Channel (US) is showing Decoding the Past; Mayan Doomsday Prophecy. According to this University of Central Florida (UCF) article, its going to be a rational article featuring UCF professor Arlen Chase who has been studying the Maya for several decades and has written more than 100 articles about the subject: Some of the prophecies left behind by the Maya indicate that when a 4000 year cycle in the Maya calendar closes, Armageddon will be upon us. But nothing is going to happen, Chase said. The show is very well done, showing different points of view. Its very interesting and the graphics are fantastic, but that doesnt change the fact nothing is going to happen Dec. 21, 2012. I think some people are misinterpreting the Maya. During the hour-long program, Chase talks about the complex calendar from Chichen Itza, the heart of the Maya civilization deep in Mexicos Yucatan peninsula. Clear graphics, stunning landscape from several ruins and dramatic re-enactments take the viewer through a lively look at the doomsday myth and potential warnings for avoiding it.

Witness the splendor of the Mayan civilization through the discovery of their pyramids, palaces and temples. Deep within the jungles of Mexico and Guatemala, and extending into the Yucatan Peninsula lie the fabled pyramids, temples and palaces of the Maya. While Europe still slumbered in the midst of the dark ages, these innovative people had charted the heavens, evolved the only true writing system native to the Americas and had made tremendous strides in the areas of mathematics and calendars. Without the advantage of metal tools, beasts of burden or even the wheel, they were able to construct vast cities with an amazing degree of architectural perfection and variety. Filmed on location at numerous sacred sites throughout Central America including the ruins at Palenque, Tikal, Tulum, Chichen Itza, Copan and Uxmal, Mystery of the Maya explores the culture, science and history of this people.

Here the Black Jaguar is explaining the importance of the seven temples at Tikal, Guatemala and how they align with the solstices exactly (It is actually a sun dial, in large format!). Furthermore how the Mayan calendar can also be seen via this structures and the various cycles involved, such as Edgar Cayce's 52 year cycles, which the Mayan's and other early civilizations used as well in their prophecies. 2012 can all be explained through the various calendars and cycles the Mayan's use and it must be said that their calendar goes on after December 21, 2012- it does not just end, although a major shift will almost certainly take place. This footage was supplied by Danilo, the man speaking, whom we met and made friends with when we visited Tikal. He is a great guide and very spiritual, tying in the teachings of Jesus and God to that of the Mayan culture. Ian Xel Lungold presents his and Swedish biochemist Carl Johan Calleman's (calleman.com) findings about the Mayan Calendar. September 6, 2003. Okanagan University College, Vernon, Canada. All 3 presentations are available to stream: - Part 1 - video.google.ca - Part 2 - video.google.ca - Part 3 - video.google.ca For 525 years, adventurers and archeologists have studied the Mayan civilization for clues about their calendar system. Due to the translation of Mayan writing, discoveries of calendar inscriptions at Mayan ruins and the availability of scientific facts about Earth history, we now have the answer to the Mayan calendar mystery. Ian Xel Lungold presents scientific evidence that demonstrates that the Maya centered their civilization around the actual schedule of the evolution of consciousness and the unfolding of creation, galaxies, life and history, in a system of repeating, ever accelerating cycles. Now we have the pattern of all creation and it's called the Mayan Calendar. www.mayanmajix.com
www.pbs.org - The ancient Maya civilization of Central America left behind a riddle: an intricate and mysterious hieroglyphic script carved on stone monuments and painted on pottery and bark books. Because the invading Spanish suppressed nearly all knowledge of how the script worked, unlocking its meaning posed one of archaeology's fiercest challenges. Until now.
