Freshman class of 2013 dancing around the May Pole.
As I was about to make my maypole, I thought I would film it in case you like this idea for your own maypole. I used a small wooden dowel, coke cap to top wrapped with ribbon, larger cap from salad dressing bottle for base. Mint leaves, chamomile, lavender, rose petals (small), baby's breath to cover the top. I also found a small pointy tall cap from some medicine like Neosporin for the top part. Painted everything gold, wrapped 2 main caps with ribbons. Very simple and cheap. Glue gun helps. And now, I'm really going.. heheh.. Be back in a couple of weeks :) Blessed Beltane!!!!

On the first day of May in the small town of Rum Austria (near Innsbruck), the Maypole is erected to celebrate May Day. The local Tiroleans enjoy an afternoon of music and fun with the Franz Posch & Seine Innbrüggler. (Dr. Posch has a TV & Radio program " Mei Liabste Weis" - Check it out at - ORF.at). A contest to see who can climb the highest up the pole entertains onlookers all afternoon. I believe the Tiroleans are some of the best people you will ever meet in the WORLD!!

Barwick-in-Elmet, Yorkshire, Spring Bank Holiday Monday 2008. Every third year on Easter Monday, the village maypole which is almost 90 feet high with a fox weather-vane on top, and towers above the village, is taken down for repainting. On Spring Bank Holiday Monday it is re-installed, until recently by 200 men, but latterly with the help of a crane. Four specially prepared garlands with bells and ribbons are hung half way. Finally a brave volunteer climbs the pole to the top. The day is a ...

This is a type of maypole dance created by slaves in Haiti copying the 18th century menuets and dances they saw their masters doing since around 1750. Their masters were the French slave owners chased out of Haiti when Toussaint l'Ouverture liberated Haiti - something which Cuba had to wait till the middle of the 20 century for and still they are partially occupied by the US. The French came to Cuba with their slaves. They dress in simple copies of the dress of the time and the music is ...
