HipHollywood spoke with an emotional LL Cool J Friday night at a charity event in Beverly Hills, where the NCIS LA star remembered his friend, Beastie Boy Adam Yauch. "It hurts, the Beastie Boys helped me break into the business. I wouldn't be here, talking about the things we are doing today, if it wasn't for them," said the Rapper turned Actor. Yauch, also known as MCA, passed away Friday morning after a long battle with cancer. LL, who like the Beastie Boys, helped build the Def Jam dynasty, struggled to put into words how much he will miss Yauch. "A lot of people think it's about the fact that they were the first white rappers, but hey, those first white rappers bought into the business one of the biggest, greatest black rappers ever". LL hosted an event benefiting St.Vincents Meals on Wheels but recently was bestowed the honor of introducing the Beastie's when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Back in 2008, I got the chance to interview Adam "MCA" Yauch of the Beastie Boys. In this interview I talked to him about his documentary "Gunnin' For That #1 Spot" which centers on eight of the best young players in the country, and soon-to-be household names like Michael Beasley and Kevin Love. MCA also talked about NEW Beastie Boys music, the 2008 NBA draft, the state of hip-hop, what he is listening to in his car, Lil' Wayne & Jay-Z.

Adam 'MCA' Yauch of the Beastie Boys dies Adam "MCA" Yauch, a founding member of the pioneering rap band Beastie Boys, died Friday after a nearly three-year battle with cancer, the band's publicist said. A torrent of Twitter messages from entertainers lauded Yauch, 47, as a visionary musical artist, filmmaker and humanitarian. "He stood for integrity as an artist. What a loss. He was a very good man," said actor Ben Stiller. Yauch revealed in 2009 that he had a cancerous tumor in a salivary gland. As a result, the band canceled its scheduled concerts and delayed the release of an album. "I started feeling this little lump in my throat, like you would feel if you have swollen glands or something like that, like you'd feel if you have a cold, so I didn't really think it was anything," he said then in a video to fans. Yauch, a self-taught bassist and vocalist, underwent surgery to treat the tumor that year.

Today the music industry and fans of hip hop group The Beastie Boys are mourning the loss of Adam MCA Yauch. The 47 year old Yauch lost his three year battle with salivary- cancer this morning . Upon being diagnosed back in 2009 Yauch was hopeful of treatment and hoped for a speedy recovery that would bring him and bandmates back to the studio to record another album. The Brooklyn-born native formed the hip hop trio back in 1979 and they released their chart-topping debut album "LICENSED TO ILL" in 1986 which garnered hits like "Hold it now, Hit it" and Paul Revere and the rebellious teen anthem You Gotta Fight For Your Right To Party! Yauch and the Beastie Boys would go on to record seven more albums and perform in countless world tours all while receiving some of music's highest honors including being inducted in Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009.

RIP Adam Yauch - Beastie Boys Video Tribute after he dies died at age 47 from a long going cancer Beastie Boys Adam Yauch Dead at Age 47 According to breaking-news reports this morning from Rolling Stone and TMZ, Adam "MC" Yauch, co-founder of Grammy-winners and recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees the Beastie Boys, has died at age 47. Yauch is survived by his wife and daughter. As of this writing, it is unclear if his death is related to the cancer he was treated for in 2009. Yauch revealed he had cancer in a salivary gland in his neck in July 2009, which delayed the group's touring plans and scheduled September 2009 release of Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 1. The album, later titled Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 2, eventually came out in April 2011. Last year, Yauch announced that he was optimistic about treatment, but was not yet cancer-free. Last month, Yauch did not attend the Beasties' induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. A representative told Rolling Stone at the time: "Beastie Boys regret that Adam 'MCA' Yauch will be unable to join Mike 'Mike D' Diamond and Adam 'Adrock' Horovitz at the band's induction into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in April. Mike, Adam and Adam are truly grateful for the honor but with only two of the three Beastie Boys attending, they will unfortunately not be able to perform at the ceremony."
From the We Have Guns Coldblooded EP. We decided it would be fun to do a Beastie Boys cover of one of our favorite songs of theirs, so we busted this out in one take a few years ago on our debut EP.
