During his opening statement at a Senate Rules Committee hearing titled "Corporate America vs. The Voter," Senator Feingold said the Court's ruling has in effect "produced a Frankenstein -- the people created corporations, but the Court has denied the people the power to prevent corporations from dominating the political system." The New York Times reports that after the US Supreme Court ruled that the federal government may not ban political spending by corporations or unions in candidate elections, officials across the country were rushing to cope with the fallout, as laws in 24 states were directly or indirectly called into question by the ruling.
Overturning a century-old restriction, the US Supreme Court ruled last week that corporations could spend as much as they wanted to sway voters in federal elections.
When the Supreme Court came to a 5-4 decision out of the blue last week that allowed corporations to donate to political campaigns, it was a victory for free speech. It was a statement against the McCain/Feingold act, but The One lashed out against it during the State of the Union speech last night. Glenn explains the folly of McCain/Feingold 1-26-10

You're seen Keith's unhinged 11-minute rant about the Supreme Court's McCain-Feingold decision. Compare it with another analysis, only about two minutes long, that takes a strikingly different approach: no name-calling, no camera pivots, fidelity to the Constitution. It's like night and day.
