1997 www.amazon.com Watch the full film: thefilmarchived.blogspot.com The Roswell UFO Incident was the alleged recovery of extra-terrestrial debris, including alien corpses, from an object which crashed near Roswell, New Mexico, in June or July 1947. Since the late 1970s the incident has been the subject of intense controversy and the subject of conspiracy theories as to the true nature of the object which crashed. The United States military maintains that what was actually recovered was debris from an experimental high-altitude surveillance balloon belonging to a classified program named "Mogul"; however, many UFO proponents maintain that in fact a crashed alien craft and bodies were recovered, and that the military then engaged in a cover up. The incident has turned into a widely known pop culture phenomenon, making the name Roswell synonymous with UFOs. It ranks as one of the most publicized and controversial alleged UFO incidents. On July 8, 1947, Roswell Army Air Field (RAAF) public information office in Roswell, New Mexico, issued a press release stating that personnel from the field's 509th Bomb Group had recovered a crashed "flying disc" from a ranch near Roswell, sparking intense media interest. The following day, the press reported that Commanding General of the Eighth Air Force stated that, in fact, a radar-tracking balloon had been recovered by the RAAF personnel, not a "flying disc." A subsequent press conference was called, featuring debris from the crashed ...

LANVIN TO DESIGN EXCLUSIVE COLLECTION FOR H&M THIS AUTUMN H&M is proud to announce that its next designer collaboration will be with Lanvin, one of the most influential brands of the 21st century. Designed by Lanvin's artistic director Alber Elbaz, and mens wear designer Lucas Ossendrijver the collection will go on sale in around 200 H&M stores. It will be launched November 20th in North America and on November 23rd in the rest of the world. The col lection of both womenswear and menswear will be revealed to the world on November 2, just three weeks before the clothes hit the store, making the launch of Lanvin for H&M among the most antici pated fashion events of the year. "H&M approached us to collaborate, and see if we could translate the dream we created at Lanvin to a wider audience, not just a dress for less. I have said in the past that I would never do a mass-market collection, but what intrigued me was the idea of H&M going luxury rather than Lanvin going public. This has been an exceptional exercise, where two companies at opposite poles can work together because we share the same philosophy of bringing joy and beauty to men and women around the world." Alber Elbaz, artistic director of Lanvin. "We are thrilled about Lanvin's collection for H&M, it is such an exciting moment. Lanvin will bring to H&M a luxurious French tradition that is also modern and playful. It is very much a Lanvin collection, using their cut and tailoring, with lots of focus on form and ...

"United We Stand." "We Will Never Forget." Sadly, nine years after 9/11, we neither stand united nor care enough to remember. Nine years after 9/11 our 9/11 first responders are still denied the critical medical care they need -- in plain sight -- with nary a peep from a war-weary populace still sporting their fading 9/11 "We Will Never Forget" car magnets on their SUVs. And nine years after 9/11 even the most fundamental questions regarding the events of that day, as well as the most fundamental questions associated with the myriad lies and tragic events in the days that followed, remain to this day unanswered. The events of 9/11 were, as the neo-conservative think tank "Project For The New American Century" predicted (and seemingly called for), in its September 2000 report "Rebuilding America's Defenses" -- a "New Pearl Harbor": "Further, the process of transformation, even if it brings revolutionary change, is likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event----like a new Pearl Harbor" And, like the original Pearl Harbor, transformation is indeed what we got. A short nine months after the neo-conservatives took possession of the White House, a "New Pearl Harbor" shocked and awed the world and transformed the psyche of the American public. But instead of building a new society unified in its resolve to reinvent itself as a better nation, with better policies, with a superior moral compass capable of leading the world through example, the neo ...

Story: Enter Peepli, a small village in the hinterland where a farmer duo, Natha (Omkar Das Manikpuri) and Budhia (Raghuvir Yadav) are struggling to hold on to their land. Threatened by extreme poverty, they fall upon a novel plan. Natha decides to commit suicide to avail of the Rs one lakh compensation package doled out by the government. But before he can do that, the news spreads like wildfire. The unknown hamlet soon becomes the favourite hunting ground for the voyeuristic news channels, hungry for TRPs, unscrupulous politicians, eyeing their vote banks, fumbling bureaucrats, foxed and clueless about the strange turn of events...Can the farmer's family hope for succour? Is India equipped to handle its swelling population of forgotten and marginalised citizenry? Does Natha survive? Good questions.... Big question: How smart can Indian cinema get? Exhilarating answer: Very smart. Movie Review: And that's the bottomline of Peepli Live, a small little film, that showcases the real India without glossing over the contradictions of our fumbling-bumbling democracy or getting overtly sentimental about garibi and the attendant grime that goes with it. Refreshingly, the film unfolds like a hard-hitting satire that turns its tongue-in-cheek gaze over almost all that's incongruous in contemporary Indian society: the rural rot, the yawning rural-urban divide, the vote-bank politics, the out-of-sync bureaucracy, the we-give-a-damn political class, the TRP-lusting media and the ...

"Portrait" was created in 2010. It is animated, directed, and scored by Brian Oakes. Taking inspiration from a variety of sources, ranging from film, music, and the media, to memories and events in my own life, each image tells a story that relates to a combination of events and memories. This film is an animated portrait of a person suffering from schizophrenia. The voice-over narration is taken from actual dialogue of my older sibling during a schizophrenic episode. The video is a combination of 3D animation using Maya, 2D hand-drawn animation using Flash, and manipulated digital video using Adobe After Effects. The music was also composed and performed using digital tools. The voice over was computer-generated as well. The images are presented in synchronization with the score. My working process often involves revisiting the same themes and motifs in different combinations and guises- a practice through which I look to reconstruct images faded and transformed by time. I use the filmic construction of space and time to explore the margins of memory and perception.

"Fantasia, by Peter Eramian, is a remarkable take on the media's sentimentalization of the gaze surrounding the events of September 11th 2001. A critical and well executed composition responding to questions of ideology, cinema and the media - themes of unmistakable relevance to our time." Michal Kosakowski, acclaimed film director of Just Like The Movies. The cinematic gaze, a concoction of awe, confusion, excitement and fear, reflected best in the moment before disaster strikes. Yet, we find it difficult to specify exactly what is being expressed. The object of fantasy, or the sublime, is said to act as both a failed representation and the failure of representation per se: a moment in which existence momentarily loses all of its attached meanings words can no longer be uttered. The deleted scene from the Disney feature Fantasia (1940), with its rich sentimental soundtrack Clair de Lune, expresses this momentary spurt of innocence during which, one might say, the Lacanian Real peers through into the realm of symbolic reality. Suddenly, the two commercial passenger jet airliners are aestheticised and transformed into two angelic egrets flying into the night. Their destination no longer the WTC but the lush full moon. Zizek speaks of a similar tranquillity actualised by ideology. In his book The Sublime Object of Ideology he argues that a hegemonic ideology can never succeed wholly in its task of creating a sensis communis without the adducing of sublime objects. The ...

69th clip. Text below is partial from the deaf child website. Deaf History Commentary: The 6.9 clip's historical background is Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet's stay at INJS to study the manual education method and French Sign Language. One interesting thing to ponder about. Thomas Gallaudet learned the older form of LSF when he first arrived in Paris (if not before in England). He did not learn American Sign Language! How all that was signed between Laurent Clerc and TH Gallaudet became ASL is a story! It begs more scrutiny. The next clips in chapter 7 will be on that. Thomas Gallaudet is number one when discussing the beginning of American deaf education but Laurent Clerc is number one when discussing the history of American Sign Language. We need to elevate our deaf historical events into the mythological and psychological realms to make it more significant for us to live today and work for in the future. As we go along into the second half, one question to masticate. What is the significance of VisMa in the whole story? Should I remove VisMa (remove the god-element) and make this story a historical fiction or a historical novel in ASL? If so, then the story won't be a myth but something else. Myth-making is a blend of two things: our dDeaf life with its psychic baggage and archetypal fiction-making. I am fascinated in toying around with a story reflecting the past, the present, and the future of my own culture/society. Is it the same for all those "crazy" people zealously ...
The mighty Olavinlinna Castle rises majestically above the picturesque lakeland scenery of Savonlinna in southern Finland, a former border region that was once the scene of many a bloody battle. The location of the fortress was well chosen, as for many centuries, the strategically-placed castle on the small granite island had to withstand attack from the Russian army. Large sections of the castle have been extensively restored and transformed into two museums. The Castle Museum contains various finds that relate to the history of Olavinlinna. Unfortunately, none of the castle's original wooden furniture and fittings have survived and several devastating fires destroyed much of the castle's internal décor in the 19th century. The Orthodox Museum contains a large number of icons and cult objects of the Russian Orthodox Church and highlight the cultural influence that the Russians had on the castle. Each June, the Olavinlinna Courtyard is transformed into the main venue of the renowned Savonlinna Opera Festival. The festival is also famous beyond Finland and is one of the crowning highlights of Europe's summer festivals. Thanks to its annual cultural events, Olavinlinna Castle is now a tranquil and historic setting for one and all.
A ceremony celebrating the closing touches to the Carnegie Pavilion has been held at Headingley Carnegie Stadium. Yorkshire cricketers Anthony McGrath and Jonny Bairstow, and two students from Leeds Met whose faculty will be based in the new Pavilion, performed the bolt tightening on the highest truss tip of the canopy on top of the building. Designed by Alsop Architects, the new 4000 sqm Carnegie Pavilion will be a multi-purpose building, and a distinctive new feature of the Headingley Skyline when it is completed next year. The pavilion will operate as a state-of-the art cricket pavilion and media centre during the summer and a teaching facility during the academic year. The facility will include: a media centre, upgraded player facilities such as changing and treatment rooms, replacement spectator seating, premium hospitality suites and associated facilities. The new hospitality suites and media centre have been designed as lecture theatres and teaching space for use outside major cricketing events. Environmental, economic and social sustainability are central to the project. The sustainability strategy involves creating one dual-use building which will be used all year around. Dr Geoff Hitchins, Chief Executive of Leeds Metropolitan University, said: "The new development will provide opportunities for Leeds Met students to study in a state-of-the-art environment and learn through unrivalled practical experiences at the many events held at the stadium. This completes a ...
Song: System of the Down-Violent Pornography On July 9, 1947, Roswell Army Air Field (RAAF) issued a press release stating that personnel from the field's 509th Bomb Group had recovered a crashed "flying disc" from a ranch near Roswell, sparking intense media interest. Later the same day, the Commanding General of the Eighth Air Force stated that, in fact, a weather balloon had been recovered by the RAAF personnel, rather than a "flying saucer."[2] A subsequent press conference was called, featuring debris said to be from the crashed object that seemed to confirm the weather balloon description. The case was quickly forgotten and almost completely ignored, even by UFO researchers, for more than 30 years. Then, in 1978, ufologist Stanton T. Friedman interviewed Major Jesse Marcel who was involved with the original recovery of the debris in 1947. Marcel expressed his belief that the military had covered up the recovery of an alien spacecraft. His story spread through UFO circles, being featured in some UFO documentaries at the time.[1] In February 1980, The National Enquirer ran its own interview with Marcel, garnering national and worldwide attention for the Roswell incident. Additional witnesses and reports emerged over the following years. They added significant new details, including claims of a huge military operation dedicated to recovering alien craft and aliens themselves, at as many as 11 crash sites,[1] and alleged witness intimidation. In 1989, former mortician ...

The event, took place on the entire second floor of the motel. Each artist or group of artists and musicians, occupied and transformed their own room. How do you decide what is the quickest path to take how do you decide where to touch the wall? You could run to here or here or here. But after moment you pick this point because you think it is the shortest path and results in the quickest journey. In a second trial, you are a lifeguard and you spot a swimmer in trouble out in the water. How do you decide on the quickest path to the swimmer? You run faster than you can swim, so do you run to this point and swim from there or maybe this point? If you choose correctly, your path will be the path of minimum time. And you will have joined ranks with Fermat, Maupertuis, Euler, and Lagrange in furthering one of the most universal principles of nature. Fermat: Living in the first half of the 17th century, Pierre Fermat developed the concept that light travels at different speeds in different media, and maintained that the path that light takes is always the one that takes the least time.
