YouNews reporter promisenews contributed this report to YouNews on 10news.com in San Diego. Promisenews writes, "The Dia de los Muertos celebration mixes remembrance with merriment. Ballet folklorico groups performed on three stages, a mock funeral procession made its way through the event, and children decorated festive sugar skulls and made crepe paper flowers in a kids craft area. This year the celebration, that has outgrown the Civic Center plaza where it was formerly held, moved to the grounds of Mission San Luis Rey. The new location gave the event room to add a car show and spread out performance stages, venders and ofrenda memorial alters." read the whole story here: www.younewstv.com
There are four warm weather parades in Owosso, Michigan: The huge Curwood Festival Heritage Parade, which draws an audience of 45000 to 60000; the Kids in Curwood Parade, which is held the evening before the Curwood Festival Heritage Parade; the Owosso High School Homecoming Parade; and the smallest, but most important parade of all, the Owosso Memorial Day Parade. Featured in the parade are Owosso veterans, the Owosso High School Freshman Marching Band, and the Owosso Middle School Marching Band. The Owosso Memorial Day Parade begins in front of Lafayette Square Park, which is in the residential area of North Washington Street. It then heads south down Washington Street for nearly a mile to Oak Hill Cemetery. There, a solemn ceremony is held among the graves of a few of the relatively huge number of Owosso citizens per capita who served in the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, Viet Nam, the Gulf War, and in Iraq and Afghanistan.

This goes out to that mystery man that maKEs our heads turn on the homemade one-of-a-kind B-eye-cycle.
{STAYS AT HER FARM} Michael Jackson's ex-wife Debbie Rowe did not attend the pop star's memorial service in LA on Tuesday. Instead, Rowe could be seen playing with her horses at her Southern California HOME. As thousands of fans gathered to celebrate Michael Jackson's life, his ex-wife Debbie Rowe opted to stay put at her home in Palmdale, California on Tuesday (July 7). The mother of Michaels children was spotted out tending to her horses, as she decided to skip out on the Staples Center tribute at the last minute. Meanwhile, Miss Rowe is expected to appear in court later this month as she fights for custody of the kids. With many opposed to her decision to battle for the children, family friend Frank Cascio recently voiced his thoughts that the court should honor Jackson's last will and grant custody to his mother Katherine Jackson. "Those kids need to be with Katherine and the family," Cascio told "Good Morning America". "That's who they need to be with. Not with Debbie."

Today is a special day to remember those that have fought, fallen and are still serving our wonderful united states. I just finished putting the flag outside and smile with pride for our country. This is something I do everyday and I do think about our Armed Forces daily.. Each day I'm very thankful for my freedoms. For those that have fallen: You are always remembered--Never Forgotten! For the families our hearts are with you. I can't begin to thank all those who are serving and the families who are on the home front. Thank You! You give us the freedom, safety and the abilities to live free. We love you, Miss you, Honor you and Be safe... So people when you look around today and you are going about doing your normal duties. Remember one thing: It's because of the men and women that fight for us... that we can even do normal every day things. My choices in music may seemed to be overplayed or underplayed. Taps, 21 gun salute and voices that care. Because I care, love and remember our Armed Forces!! This is also dedicated to: Francis Tisdale (My Grandfather) I miss you so much gramps. Bill B. (My Grandfather on my father's side. Career Navy and disabled veteran. He came home shell shocked) Faye B. (Military Wife) William C. (Great Grandpa-Civil War Veteran) Bud Bessey (My friend ,Retired Navy, troop supporter and fighting for our troops rights. Check out his site: www.chiefquarters.com) Shawn K. In this video, Betty demonstrates how to make her memorial Day Onion Burgers. Also, as an added treat, Betty's "ghost" husband Rick appears (at the request of many of you!) Ingredients: 1 1/4 pounds ground beef 1 oz. envelope onion soup and dip mix 2 tablespoons barbecue sauce (optional) In a large bowl, combine 1 1/4 pounds ground beef and a 1 oz. envelope of onion soup mix. Mix thoroughly. Add 2 tablespoons of barbecue sauce (if you want a smoky flavor). Form into 5 hamburger patties. Grill on an outdoor grill, or an electric kitchen grill, or fry them in a skillet. An outdoor grill gives the best results. Cook to the desired degree of doneness. Remove to a serving platter. Menu suggestions: You can serve these burgers on Kaiser buns, with mayonnaise, ketchup, or mustard with lettuce, tomato slices, Swiss or Cheddar cheese slices, sauted mushrooms and onions, etc. Accompanying dishes can be Betty's Barbecue Bean Bake, Betty's Homestyle Memorial Day Potato salad, and some potato chips, pickles, olives, and any other items of your choice. A great dessert for this meal is Betty's Chocolate Turtle Dessert Pizza. Have a *great* cookout!!!

In this video, Betty shares the secrets of her "unbeatable" Homestyle Memorial Day Potato Salad. It's a beautiful potato salad, which Betty has refined over the years, by incorporating little bits of knowledge that only come with many years of experience. Ingredients: 3 medium to large Idaho baking potatoes 1 tablespoon salt 3 eggs, boiled and chopped finely 1/2 cup chopped celery 1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper 1/4 cup chopped red bell pepper 1/4 cup chopped onion 2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish 1 cup mayonnaise 1 teaspoon prepared yellow mustard 1 tablespoon sweet pickle juice dash of ground black pepper sprinkling of paprika for top Fill a medium to large pot about halfway full of water. Add 1 tablespoon salt, and bring the water to a rolling boil. In the meantime, peel your 3 baking potatoes, and cut them in half horizontally and then vertically, making 4 equally-sized pieces of each one. When the water is boiling, carefully place the 12 chunks of potatoes into the boiling water. When they come back up to a boil, reduce the heat, and cook at a low boil for about 20 minutes, until tender when tested with a fork. Drain the water through a colander into the sink, and place the drained potato chunks in a large mixing bowl. Let the potatoes sit for about 20 minutes, and then start assembling your potato salad while the potato chunks are still warm. First, use a paring knife to cut the warm potato chunks into large cubes. Add 3 boiled, chopped eggs, 1/2 cup chopped ...

Filmed in Port Chester, NY, where I grew up watching the parades from my front lawn on Westechester Avenue, just steps from the monument. Sadly, the thousands aren't there anymore. This is my homage to that wonderful spirit that I witnessed in my youth. ***Most of the 8 mm footage, the Port Chester part, was filmed by Nick and Mary Chilek. The parade footage in the beginning and around the monument was 1954 or 55. We know this because Melanie, their daughter and my girlfriend, is in the the scene where people are walking (0:40) with her brother, Marty who is my age was walking there holding a flag, age about 4 or 5. The cheerleader footage is just me wanting to get my girlfriend in the video. This was in 1968-9. Some it is taken near St Peters as Nick Chilek was a fireman with Harry Howard house, just up the street. Look closely and you'll see Neilsen's Ice Cream parlor. Ken Force brought the PCHS band to national recognition. In fact they would have played in a DC parade if not for the assasination of MLK. That glorious footage of the bands coming up the avenue was taken near Leicester Ave. just across from the Elks and a half a block from my home, 408 Westchester Ave. While I couldn't fit it in the song, one of my biggest memories of the parades was waiting...waiting...waiting for the bugler to finish Taps until we could run for the spent rifle shells. I still have some. Memorial Day I remember lining up for the big parade The whole town there the thirtieth of May Kids ...

sites in this short include the Berlin Wall, Checkpoint Charlie, Brandenburger Tor, TV Tower, Teufelsberg, Monument to the Murdered Jews of Europe, the Libeskind-designed Jewish Museum and the Soviet War Memorial at Tiergarten. Film by Marc Guillaume (like it sez). Every year, a group of former and current staff and friends of the Unirondack Camp in the Adirondack Mountains (Jesus Camp, except it's for ultra-liberal Unitarian kids) of New York get together for a weekend at the end of May before the camp season begins to have fun and slap mosquitos. Traditionally, there's always a parade through the tiny adjacent town of Number Four, New York (I'm NOT making that up; it really is called Number Four; a tiny incorporate town not found on any map). We make costumes in four hours before the parade, then off we go. It's like the Burning Man of the Adirondack Mountains, but with fewer guys in banana slings. In 2000, we did a "circus" theme.
