**It irks me that I misspelled "transition" at the end *grrrr* lol, but thanks for clicking and watching anyway :-) This is a short photo documentary of the beginnings of my hair transition from relaxed to natural. My last relaxer was on October 1, 2010 and I haven't "big chopped" yet, but I'm anxious to! After transitioning with the two textures for so long, the relaxed ends are just stringy and yuck. The only time my relaxed ends look decent is when my hair is straightened/flat ironed, and I've only flat ironed twice in 9 months. I want my hair to grow out just a little more before I cut it so I'll be enduring the two textures for a little bit longer. Life for an actual canary in a coal mine could be described in three words - short but meaningful. Early coal mines did not feature ventilation systems, so miners would routinely bring a caged canary into new coal seams. Canaries are especially sensitive to methane and carbon monoxide, which made them ideal for detecting any dangerous gas build-ups. The discovery of the dead birds — some of which were lying face down, clumped in groups, while others were face up with their wings outstretched and rigid legs pointing upward — comes just three days after more than 3000 blackbirds rained down from the sky in Beebe, Ark. Necropsies performed Monday on the birds in Arkansas showed the birds suffered internal injuries that formed blood clots leading to their deaths, The Associated Press reported. In Louisiana, biologists with the state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries spent part of the day Monday scooping up some of the birds in Pointe Coupee Parish to be sent for testing at labs in Georgia and Wisconsin.

(Dallas Morning News) There's no doubt Stephen Matthew Brodie's deafness contributed to his wrongful conviction nearly two decades ago for the sexual assault of a 5-year-old Richardson girl. He was finally exonerated this week -- becoming the nation's first deaf exoneree -- after a judge heard about a plethora of missteps by Richardson police and declared him innocent. But in many ways not much has changed among police and prosecutors since Brodie was falsely convicted. The Dallas County district attorney's office, which asked a judge to release Brodie, still has no policy to deal with deaf defendants but acknowledged Friday that Brodie's case has made authorities realize they need one. And not all police departments follow what are considered best practices while interrogating deaf defendants. For example, prosecutors don't routinely check whether a deaf defendant had a certified interpreter during police questioning, or whether the defendant's written words would have a different meaning in American Sign Language. Defense attorneys Amber DF Elliott and Tim Menchu, who both know ASL, say many of the problems in Brodie's case would not have happened with a hearing suspect. And, as egregious as those problems were, they say the situation could easily happen again. "There are still problems," said Elliott, an Austin defense attorney who worked with Brodie's attorneys to review the 18 hours of interrogation he went through over eight days.
