The sudden dismissal of China's Minister of Railway, Liu Zhijun, gets wide attention both home and abroad. Official media only said that it was due to Liu's "severe violation of discipline" without any details, stirring up all sorts of speculation. Liu Zhijun was removed from office at the peak of the New Year season transportation. It is undoubtedly explosive news. It also happened very quickly, because 20 minutes ago the TV news was about him inspecting railroad work. As to the reasons for his dismissal, Pu fei, staff of China Tianwang Human Rights Service gave three possibilities from internal discussion and other sources. Pu Fei: First, it could be political struggle. Secondly, people suspect that the large scale construction of high speed railway must involve large-scale corruption, as the supervision is null in China. Thirdly, it could be related to the bribery cases of the suppliers in high speed railway construction. Started as a railway maintenance worker at 19, Liu Zhijun, now 58, became Minister of Railway in 2003. He is believed to be promoted all the way by Jiang Zemin, the CCP's ex-General Secretary. During Jiang's tenure, Liu was alleged to accompany him in his inspection. In Sept. 2002, before CCP's 16th congress meetings, Liu was appointed as Party Chief and Deputy Minister in Ministry of Railway. The appointment was made by Jiang Zemin before his retirement. Overseas Chinese media said it was a reward for Liu's service to him in all those years. Pu Fei ...
In the high-speed railway construction in recent years, Minister of Railways Liu Zhijun made a big sensation. He became the 1st sacked minister-level official in 2011. Liu is alleged to have a serious violation of discipline. He lost his post as Minister of Railways. The official release of the news was very sudden. Sources said that such a rapid disposal was evidence that it was finalized by Party's senior level. CCP's official mouthpiece Xinhua News net suddenly published a short article at 5:30 pm on Feb. 12. CCP's Central Commission for Discipline Inspection said Liu is "suspected of serious discipline violation." He is currently under investigation, along with many of his subordinates and bureau directors. This can trigger a major earthquake within the ministry. The official report didn't disclose the details. According to some media reports, Liu has taken bribes of several billion yuan. He is suspected to be in connection with an earlier corruption case of a high-speed rail contracting project, as well as a number of scandals involving many listed companies in Shanghai and Hong Kong. China's news network Caing.com reported, before Liu was sacked, there were signs. Ding Shumiao, a female entrepreneur in Shanxi, was arrested last month for her railway investments. Liu is directly connected to Ding's case. Ding was very close to the Ministry of Railway. She is rumored to be in a dubious relationship with Liu's go-getter, a bureau director in the Ministry. www.presstv.com In Beijing the International Union of Railways and China's Ministry of Railways co-hosted the 7th World Congress on High Speed Rail, a four-day conference and international trade show for the fast train industry. Two year's ago at the last Congress in Amsterdam, China had only just started building railways for superfast trains. That was when the International Union of Railways decided to stage this year's event in Beijing; for the first time outside of Europe. Superfast railway lines offer quicker journeys than planes for distances of up to about 1300 kilometres, and they're greener to boot. They transform economies by shortening commuting times, boosting tourism and freeing up conventional lines to carry up to seven times as much freight. By most measures China is now the world's leader in the industry. With nearly 7000 kilometers of track, China already has the world's largest high-speed rail network, and it's aiming to more than double its total to 16000 kilometers by the year 2020. In ten years time, nearly every city in the country with more than half a million people should be serviced by trains traveling at speeds of up to 380 kilometers per hour. Chinese companies have won orders to build high-speed railways in Argentina, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela. A Chinese train has recently set the world speed record for an unmodified conventional commercial train when it hit 486 kilometers per hour on a test run on the new Beijing to Shanghai line, which is ...
[CRH 380A] China's High-Speed Train Max speed is 489kms per hour (almost 500kms per hour). This train is running at Shanghai to Beijing High-Speed Railway. It takes under four hours between Shanghai and Beijing. Dec. 3, 2010. One of China's high-speed trains broke the world record for unmodified commercial use on Friday . The train CRH380A hit a speed of 486.1 kms per hour to set a new world train operational speed record on the tracks between Zaozhuang City of Shandong Province and Bengbu City in eastern Anhui Province, which form a segment of the world's longest high-speed rail line linking Beijing and Shanghai. The train's previous speed record was 416.6 kms per hour set on Sep. 28 during its run between Shanghai and Hangzhou, capital city of east China's Zhejiang Province. "It not only marks a milestone in the construction of the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway, but also is a major achievement of China's technology innovation," said Wang Yongping, spokesman of the Ministry of Railways (MOR). It shows China leads the world in high-speed railway development, he said. In September, the China-made CRH380A train hit a speed of 416.6 kilometers per hour to set a new world train speed record. It is expected to exceed the record at this test running, which will be held at a section of the Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed railway. (Xinhua/Chen Shugen)

China Invites Bulgaria to Join High-Speed Asia-Europe Rail with Turkey October 28, 2010, Thursday China has formally invited Bulgaria to join together with Turkey a project for a high-speed railway connection from the Far East to Europe. The invitation resulted from talks in Beijing between Bulgarian Transport Minister Alexander Tsvetkov and China's Minister of Transport Li Shenglin, Minister of Railways Liu Zhijun, and leading Chinese railway companies, the press service of the Bulgarian Transport Ministry announced. The Ministry said the Bulgarian government is going to take part in trilateral talks with China and Turkey on the high-speed China-Europe rail. After that, in December 2010, the three countries are expected to sign a trilateral cooperation agreement on freight rail services. The transport authorities of Bulgaria and China have also decided to set up a bilateral contact group "because there is a strong interest on part of China," the Transport Ministry announced. Tsvetkov also presented Bulgaria as a destination for investments in transport infrastructure to journalists from Radio China, Radio Beijing, and the English-language paper Economy Daily News. The news about China's luring Bulgaria into the high-speed Asia-Europe rail project comes after on Wednesday Tsvetkov invited his counterpart Li Shenglin on part of the People's Republic of China to consider investment opportunities in the field of transport and infrastructure. www.bvehk.net A high-speed train in eastern China set a new speed record during its trial service Tuesday, highlighting China's leading position in the fast-train industry. The China-made CRH380A train hit a maximum speed of 416.6 kilometers per hour -- a world train speed record -- on its run between the metropolis of Shanghai and Hangzhou, capital city of east China's Zhejiang Province. The train is designed to run at a speed of 350 kilometers per hour on the 202-kilometer-long railway between the two cities. Some 80 million passengers are expected to travel the route every year. A one-way journey previously took two hours. But the new train shortens that to less than 40 minutes. "China has 7055 kilometers of high-speed railway in service. It is the world's longest and the fastest, and boasts the most comprehensive technology," said He Huawu, chief engineer of the Ministry of Railways. "We have an ambition to lead the world in high-speed railway construction," he said. China sets its first world speed record on June 24, 2008. Then, the Beijing-Tianjin CRH3 high-speed train hit a top speed of 394.3 kilometers an hour. After that, more fast-train lines were put into service - the Wuhan-Guangzhou line linking central and south China, the Zhengzhou-Xi'an line connecting central and western China, and the Shanghai-Nanjing line in the country's east. Liu Zhijun, Minister of Railways, said the opening of the Shanghai-Hangzhou line relieves transportation pressures in the ...

ndian Railways (Hindi: भारतीय रेल Bhāratīya Rail), abbreviated as IR (Hindi: भा.रे.), is the state-owned railway company of India, which owns and operates most of the country's rail transport. It is overseen by the Ministry of Railways of the Government of India. Indian Railways has one of the largest and busiest rail networks in the world, transporting 20 million passengers and more than 2 million tonnes of freight daily.[5][6] It is one of the world's largest commercial or utility employers, with more than 1.6 million employees.[5][7] The railways traverse the length and breadth of the country, covering 6909 stations over a total route length of more than 63327 kilometres (39350 mi). As to rolling stock, IR owns over 200000 (freight) wagons, 50000 coaches and 8000 locomotives.[5] Railways were first introduced to India in 1853. By 1947, the year of India's independence, there were forty-two rail systems. In 1951 the systems were nationalised as one unit, becoming one of the largest networks in the world. IR operates both long distance and suburban rail systems on a multi-gauge network of broad, metre and narrow gauges. It also owns locomotive and coach production facilities.
Union Communications Minister A. Raja has been caught on tape lobbying with a corporate PR agent for a place in the Manmohan Singh cabinet during the second term of the UPA. Headlines Today is in exclusive possession of taped conversations between Raja and powerful corporate lobbyist Nira Radia just days before the swearing-in of the cabinet. The conversations, which were recorded by investigators for the income tax department, raise serious issues about ministerial propriety. The income tax sleuths had sought permission to tap the telephone of Radia, who was being investigated by the CBI and the income tax department in the telecom spectrum scam. Radia is one of India's most influential power-brokers and has the biggest corporates of India as clients. These conversations were recorded over 300 days, starting from August 20, 2008. Raja was lobbying hard to become the next telecom minister and was being helped in this endeavour by Radia. Here are excerpts from a conversation recorded on May 24, 2009 at 11.05 am. Raja: My name is cleared? Radia: Yeah, your case was cleared last night itself. No, what is happening with Daya? Raja: Textiles or fertilisers? Radia: Not for Daya though, Azhagiri or Daya only one can come in? Raja: No, two can come... Radia: Both? Radia: Baalu, will be the problem, I hope. Radia: It will be difficult for the leader to justify three family members. Raja: (laughs) Yeah, but everybody knows... Radia: No she said that, Kani told me last night, that ...

More than 210 million passengers are expected to crowd China's railways during the upcoming Chinese New Year. This figure is up nearly 10 percent from last year, according to the Ministry of Railways. And for the first time, thousands of travelers will have named tickets. The first 600000 travelers with real-name tickets have already set off from Guangdong Railway Group's many stations in southern Guangdong Province. They are the first to benefit from the country's latest attempts to curb ticket hoarding after years of unsuccessful crackdowns against scalpers. As we've reported, the scheme is being piloted by China's Ministry of Railways in Guangdong province. And if successful, it will likely be rolled out across the country. In today's Poll Position we look at a poll by the English language China Daily which has been gauging people's reaction to the scheme.
The arrival of the Spring Festival the Chinese New Year - means movement of people on a massive scale as virtually the entire country tries to return home for the holiday. And much of that travel will be by rail - which means opportunities for unscrupulous ticket scalpers. This year over 210 million people are expected to use China's railways. That means hugely overcrowded trains, lining up sometimes for days - to buy scarce tickets, and unscrupulous scalpers. This year the country's Ministry of Railways has announced a pilot project known as the, "real name ticket system". It aims to deal with the scourge of those who buy up tickets then sell them at inflated prices. At 37 stations in the southern provinces of Guangdong, Hunan and Sichuan each passenger will be allowed to buy just three tickets after providing one piece of ID per ticket. Many travelers like the idea.
