This video that I did is from the Mississippi Mass Choir. The song is a remasterd version of the late Dorothy Love Coates's song, "Holding On and I Won't Let Go My Faith, song by the talented, dynamic, and spirit-filled "Mama" Mosie W. Burks. Now this is for the southern people who love that nice, traditional, church-rocking music. There's even a part in the end where you can get your shout on. This is definitely Southern Gospel. The lyrics are on the video. I do not own this music, nor am I seeking monetary gains or publicity. This is simply for those who want to hear the music, or learn the lyrics. The song comes from the album, "Amazing Love" done back in 2002. I hope you enjoy. God bless.

Pussycat - Medley Mississippi & Georgie 1976 1. Mississippi Now the country song for ever lost its soul when the guitar player turned to rock and roll and everytime when summernights are falling I always will be calling dreams of yesterday Mississippi, I'll remember you whenever I should go away I'll be longing for the day that I will be in Greenville again Mississippi, you'll be on my mind everytime I hear this song Mississippi roll along until the end of time Everytime I hear this song Mississippi roll along until the end of time. 2. Georgie Georgie, your love reminds me of a song When it's near you put it on, And it's refrain You'll remember Georgie, But when the song is often played Another song that has been made Makes you forget What you lied the other day Georgie, There was a time you played our love. Remember, I'm not a record you can play And turn it off Georgie, like many songs you will return Every minute I will yearn And when it comes You can see me standing there Georgie, There was a time you played our love. Remember, I'm not a record you can play And turn it off Georgie, like many songs you will return Every minute I will yearn And when it comes You can see me standing there Georgie I'm telling you I'll be standing there To hold your hand To kiss your lips To say "please love me"

Was this one of the two first Rock and Roll type song ever recorded? Recorded in Hattiesburg, Mississippi in 1936 by the legendary "Blind" Roosevelt Graves who sang the vocals and played guitar, along with his brother Uaroy Graves on Tambourine and Kazoo. Another one of Mississippi's great muscians, Cooney Vaughn is playing Piano. The Book, "The Illustrated History of 'Rock & Roll", Barbecue bust, and another song recorded that day "Dangerous Woman" are identified as possibly the earliest rock & roll recordings. This is a 10" original Melotone Record from 1936, The Victrola is an early two door Victor Credenza form 1925
This song aired on The Mornin' Show, a local program carried by NBC affiliate WTVA in Tupelo, Mississippi. BREAKING NEWS: BREAKFAST SINGERS IDENTIFIED! This from Tom Joyners website www.blackamericaweb.com. The lady singer was interviewed on his March 13th show. In the clip, Minister Cleo Clariet and his fiancé Katherine Lane are shown singing on "The Kay Bain Show" in Tupelo, Mississippi in May or June of 2004. Clariet passed away from congenital heart disease on Dec. 13, 2004. Lane said he would have been thrilled to know his song is now entertaining so many people.
In 1928, Mississippi John Hurt recorded thirteen songs on the Okeh label, including "Avalon Blues." Then he disappeared. His music influenced generations of folk and blues performers, but the mystery remained. Who was he? What happened to him? In 1963, Tom Hoskins, following the clues of the "Mississippi" in Hurt's stage name, and the lyrics of this song, "Avalon, my home town," located Hurt living in a simple shack in tiny Avalon, Mississippi, the same shack pictured early in the video, and later as the reconditioned Mississippi John Hurt Museum. Not only was Hurt still alive in 1963, but the real miracle was that he retained his sweet singing voice and fluid guitar skills. He recorded dozens of songs and toured extensively in his final three years, sharing his beautiful music with the world. Sometimes there really are happy endings.
This is a small excerpt from a long recording of a live show Fred played in Tacoma, Washington on 14th April, 1971. To the best of my knowledge, the recording of the show is public domain, and is available from tela.sugarmegs.org The tune is the same as 'Fred's Worried Blues' (from the album 'Live in New York'), but the lyrics are different. Lyrics: (transcribed by me, any mistakes are mine) Way down in the fields, where I used to plow. You know some folks say, The worried blues ain't theirs. Lordy, some folks say, The worried blues ain't theirs. Lord knows where I've been baby, The worried blues I've had. I woke up this morning, The blues all around my bed. Lord, I woke up this morning baby, The blues all around my bed. I went to eat my breakfast, The blues all in my bread. I believe in my my soul, The blues gonna kill me dead. You know my heart's full of sorrow, Tears come rolling down. Lord, my heart's full of sorrow, The tears come rolling down. Lord, baby, don't mistreat me, I'm a stranger in your town. Lord, if you make me welcome, baby, Lord, honey, I'll go home with you. Thank you.

(NUMBER 1 1976) Well you can hear the country song from far, And someone plays the honky tonky tonk, Where all the lights go on one by one, People enjoying the sun, And the wind takes it all away, Where the Mississippi rolls down to the see, And lovers found the place they like to be, How many times before this song was ending, Love and understanding everywhere around. Mississippi, I'll remember you, Whenever I shall go away, I'll be longing for the day, When I will be in Greenvale again, Mississippi you'llbe on my mind, Everytime I hear this song, Mississippi rolls along untilthe end of time. Now the country song forever lost it's soul, When the guitar player turns to rock'n'roll, And everytime when summer nights are falling, I always will be calling, Dreams of yesterday. Mississippi, I'll remember you, WheneverI shall go away, I'll be longing for the day, When I will be in Greenvale again, Mississippi you'll be on my mind, Everytime I hear this song, Mississippi rolls along until the end of time. Everytime I hear this song, Mississippi rolls along until the end of time.

Mississippi Delta Blue Good Mornin', early warnin'!... Down by Mississippi Delta, where blue water pools and tides. She covers every indescretion, she lies just like a concubine... And her hair wraps 'round in tangles, as she folds her arms around you. Good mornin', early warnin'... She gathers you in secret, in your dreams, without a sound. Her embrace is her deception, and you drown while going down. Down by the Mississippi , Mississippi Delta Blue... And her hair wraps 'round in tangles, as she folds her arms around you. Good mornin', early warnin'... Down by the Mississippi , Mississippi Delta Blue... Dreamt again about the river, and it's cool-blue treachery. It'll turn and change direction, leave you drifting on an open sea. © 2003 MICHAEL NOLAND, ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. Finally! A "LIVE" version of this song! Two years ago the very first video that I uploaded on YouTube was really no more than an experiment to learn how to shoot video, use a sound track, and then 'link' them up. I knew eventually that I would be posting 'live' Vids, and that the best way for a good sound track would be to record those same live events, and then match up the sound track, and just eliminate the inferior camera recording. For those of you who heard the radio broadcast, you know that it was recorded live from the PA (both guitars, and both vocals mixed into mono. One of the things that is endearing is when you hear a police car siren going off in the background, or a baby's cry from the ...

The Shepard Song
Tommy Johnson recorded this song in 1928. The words must be understood in the context of the Prohibition. With the sale of liquor outlawed, many men like Johnson, who were accustomed to drinking, turned to cheap and still legal substitutes - more or less anything that contained alcohol. Sterno, a cooking fuel called "canned heat", was one of the most common of these substances. How many people it killed or crippled with the 'jake leg' we may never know, but these unexpected side effects of the 'Great Experiment' were felt most severely by blacks, who clould not affordto buy the more expensive bootleg liquor, particularly during the Depression when there was mass unemployment. Although the Prohibition amendment was repealed not long after Johnson's song was recorded, its effects continued to be felt in Mississippi. Archaic members of that state's legislature voted to keep Mississippi dry. Thus Tommy Johnson and many others were faced with the problem of ruined health throughout their lives (source : "Tommy Johnson" by David Evans - Studio Vista Books 1971) His brother Mager told writer David Evans : He believed in drinking. He loved that canned heat. He's the first fellow I ever heard tell of drinking canned heat. And he drank so much of it, he said he was going to put him out a record about the canned heat. That canned heat, you know, it was red. It was in those little okd cans. When you open it, take the top off the can. He'd strike hem a match and burn it, burn the top ...
Leave a comment! A video on the mississippi river flood of 1993 case study. lots of info, also the best video there is.
A short, but beautiful video thats shows the beauty of the proud state of Mississippi, which will be forever home to me. Paddleboats, bridges, swamps, cypress, the Delta, old barns, historical houses, churches, local animals, native food, Elvis birthplace, flowers, our flag... there's a little of everything on this video, if I had more time, I would include a lot more. Mississippi is a beautiful land, full of nice people, true Southern hospitality, is a state that has a lot to offer to its visitors. I'm proud of Mississippi. The background song is played by Ry Cooder, on the slide guitar.* * Audio swap performed. Since Ry Cooder and the Crossroads blocked the audio on my video due copyright violation claims, the song has been replaced by "The Rain", performed by Caleb Coffey, officially licensed to play on Youtube. Thanks, Coffey, you saved my video.
