The skeletal remains found Monday afternoon in Malibu Canyon are believed to be that of a woman, according to a law enforcement source. Women's clothing was also found near the scene, said the source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the case was ongoing. LA County sheriff's officials and the LA coroner's office are trying to determine whether the remains belong to Mitrice Richardson, who has been missing since September, or one of several people who were reported missing in the area. latimesblogs.latimes.com bones were found about 2 1/2 miles from the last credible sighting of Richardson. The LA coroner's office said it was conducting exams on the remains Tuesday morning. Police investigators went to a remote area of Malibu Canyon on Monday afternoon after park rangers told LA County sheriff's officials that they'd found what appeared to be human remains. On March 17, 2010 a panel discussion was held at the Pasadena Public Library on "Custodial Night Time Release." It was sponsored by The Friends Group with Dr. Gerda Govine, President and Shirley Spencer, Treasurer. Persons in the custody of local law enforcement agencies are frequently released late at night without money, transportation or a way to call someone to pick them up. This practice fails to honor such persons' right, on a consistent and humane basis, to have someone pick them up. This puts the released person at potential risk of harm as in the recent case of Mitrice Richardson, missing exactly six months after release from the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriffs station. On the panel were Dr. Ronda Hampton, Clinical Psychologist, Mary Ann Shemdin, from National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI), Benjamin Jones, Attorney for the Office of Independent Review and Chief Neal Tyler from the Los Angeles Sheriffs Department.
