When I wore my natural hair out, I felt as though I didn't meet society's standard of beauty. My hair was never long enough, straight enough, or silky enough. I constantly dyed, fried, permed, weaved, sewed.... You name it, I tried it... to make my hair beautiful. Little did I know, it already was. In a nutshell I was inspired by a girlfriend from school named Dominque. She was the first person who introduced me to this "going natural thing" and "the big chop." One day she had some cute long individuals in her hair and the next week I saw her, her head was shaved. I thought she was just going through some tough times or something( shoot, I didn't know) .... Until we chatted about her big chop. I was experiencing one of those phases with my hair. "Mmmm I wanna cut it, but I don't know how it'll look." "I'm tired of this mop, what should I do with it?" "Maybe I should get a weave or a perm." You know that phase most of us women go through? :) I was short on cash and I wanted something easy so I decided to embrace my natural beauty and cut it all off. I didn't tell anybody... I just did it! There were a lot of interesting reactions; many positive comments, many negative comments. All in all, cutting my hair and going natural was one of the best decisions I have EVER made. This was honestly a psychological move ...

(selena's POV) They're always the same. Always at night, in the forest, looking for miley. The sound of his body lurking somewhere behind me. Branches breaking. Leaves crackling. Wind whirring in my ears, watering my eyes. And tthe pain in my stomach-sharp, raw, scratching. Real. My nightmares make me dread sleep. I pinch the safety end of the razor blade between three fingers to write. than i grab the virgin candle and crave the initials MRC into the round side, tiny flakes of sparkling blue wax crumbling from the surface with each incision and every drag of blade. They're Miley's initial, but she doesnt suspect a thing, just keeps scribbling away in her diary, like any other night, sitting up in her bed, only a few feet away. With the last curl of the C, i place the razor to the side and pluck a branch sage from the drawer . It;s perfect for burning, all dried up- the leave shriveled, twisted and grey. i wind a peice of string around it for a cleaner burn, so it wont be as smoky, so i'll have less chance of getting in trouble. then i drop it into the orange clay pot of my bed. miley: going to bed? Selena: in a few. -i unscrew the cap off the bottle of olive oil and pour a few droplets onto my finger. she nods and yawn, caps her feather-tipped pen, and closes up her diary. Miley: just do me a favor and dont burn the dorm down, i have a serious history presentation tomorrow. Selena: all the more reason -i joke- Miley and i have been roommates for a little over two years ...
