Part II after sweetie got the tripod...My wife and I observed this object on October 9th from about 2100 to 2300 hours. It appeared in the NE sky and appeared to transit about 25 degrees in the time we watched it. I was able to observe it on a Meade 4504 telescope where I noted it rapidly leaving the field, and exhibiting blue yellow and red as well as white light blinking lights. The videos were taken with a very low tech digital camera. I was interested in how many other people recorded this phenomenon and anywhere else on the night of October 9th/10th I counted 25 uploads from all over the world I collected them and put them in my blog linked now in the description adept2u.blogspot.com
WARNING: Handheld camera while driving one-handed! SHAKY VIDEO! This is a downhill drive/scamper/run down Red Box leading from Mt. Wilson Observatory to what used to be the common weekend meeting place prior to the fire that threatened the area. It's possible to get back up here again, and while the roads leading to the parking lot are surrounded by devestation it is amazing how untouched the road itself is.
Woodbury to Roseville in three minutes (about 24 miles).
My annual downhill bike ride from Mount Wilson to Pasadena was shortened due to road closures. I forgot to charge up the batteries in the GoPro Camera. Hopefully next year the road will be open.

A short test timelapse using the free version of "Webcam XP". This allows you to pull the image from a IP camera or local webcam and save the file locally. These can then be stitched together into a movie using "PhotoLapse". Final editing in Premiere Elements with a short piece of music created in "Absynth 3".

The is their first drive up the Angeles Crest Highway by Hal and Susan McAlister on 3 Sep 09 to join staff at the Mount Wilson Observatory. We were escorted by LA County Sheriff's deputies. We were stunned by what we saw and inattentive to keeping the little Video flip camera stable and accurately pointed. The devastation speaks for itself.
The timelapse was taken from the UCLA Tower Cam located on Mount Wilson, facing the Mt. Wilson Observatory. It spans from September 6-7, 2009 shortly after it was spared from the terrible California wild fires. There are so many dynamics taking place in the video. Fires flaring, the moon casting its glow on the Observatory, smoke rising and falling, apparent movement of the stars. All makes for a beautiful compilation. Best viewed in HQ Mode. Many thanks to the Director, Dr. Hal McAlister, UCLA and the firefighters that made it possible to continue to do great astronomy with this historical and important complex. Please visit the tower cam page: www.astro.ucla.edu
Time lapse at two minute interval from the UCLA Mt Wilson Cam at 25 fps. Images are from 15:39 Aug 29 to when the camera lost connectivity at 13:50 on Sep 1 due to the Station Fire.
A compilation of pictures taken from the MT Wilson Observatory Tower cam over the last 3 days during the station fires. Good work firefighters on saving this important historical site. Also remember the 2 that died fighting this huge blaze. Hope the site is back up soon. Condensed to a four-minute timelapse shot from my home in Silver Lake, this is 60 minutes in the life of the devastating Station Fire, which at the time of this video had burned more than 55 square miles of the Angeles National Forest and was threatening to overrun Mt. Wilson. There is something about rampaging unstoppable wildfires and the literal and figurative pall they cast that both agitates and depresses me to marked degrees. Sure Im not someone in the infernos path whos lost property or suffered injury, but however indirectly and from whatever distance I am from the devastation I am nonetheless deeply affected by it. As the following timelapse video of the Station Fire shows, Im physically far away. From the roof of our Silver Lake home I set up the camera and captured the footage, condensed down to four minutes from an hour that passed last night beginning at 5 pm Its not very dramatic from a visual level, but with the spewing white plumes that power up above the hanging haze of ash and smoke, it makes me imagine gargantuan steam locomotives unseen behind a curtain of poison, destroying everything in their predatory paths. And it breaks my heart.

Looking west from the Mt Wilson Tower Cam. The blaze in the steep San Gabriel Mountains above La Canada Flintridge continued to move out in all directions, the most active flanks to the north, deeper into the forest, and east. The fire was 5 percent contained. The flames burned increasingly lower down the edges of the mountains and crept toward the northeast edge of the city of Altadena, where some residents were ordered to evacuate. Hot, dry weather was expected all day Saturday, but crews were hopeful that winds would remain light ...
, Pasadena, La Crescenta and Big Tujunga Canyon, Forest Service spokesman Bruce Quintelier said. The flames crept lower down the slopes of the San Gabriel Mountains despite winds blowing predominantly in the other direction, threatening more than 2000 homes in the La Canada Flintridge area. www.discdownloads.com Alpine, NJ has just been named America's most expensive ZIP code by Forbes.com on its annual list. The money mag's site says that homes in Jersey's 07620 have a median asking price of $4.14 million dollars. But as whopping as that is, it's actually down 23 percent from last year. Manhattan's West Village (10014), came in at third place on the top-500 list, with median asking prices of $3.5 million, which was down 24 percent over the past twelve months. And it seems the West Village can't compete with Alpine in terms of star wattage either. The New Jersey town is home to a number of celebrities including Chris Rock, Stevie Wonder, Mary J. Blige, Sean Combs and Patrick Ewing, the Daily News reported. The News notes that even though the town boasts a number of black superstars, it's nearly 80% white -- and Rock has pointed that out in his comedy bits. "My next-door neighbor is a white dentist," he's joked. "The only way a black dentist could ever live there would be if he invented teeth!" The other New York ZIP in the top ten was Lenox Hill's 10065, at #9, where media home prices were $3.18 million, down 10 percent. 07926 in Brookside, NJ rounded out the top ten, with home prices of $3.12 million. All of the other top ten spots were taken up by California. When contacted by the Daily News, the mayor of Alpine, Paul Tomasko, was a little shy at first, saying "We make no effort to enter into this kind of competition." He later called back to add "Alpine ...
