Talent in da bush! The Darwin production of Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' was a pleasant surprise...... The audience, and their participation, is partly responsible for this..... Staged in the Old Town Hall Ruins, the production balanced the traditional language and drama signature of the literary genius, with an in-your-face physical interpretation which kept me on the edge of my seat. There was a thrilling water scene, moody fire bits, and a gut-wrenching display as Hermia falls to the ground begging her love, Lysander, to fall back into love with her. All this in an open-air setting..... A Midsummer Night's Dream was an exciting affair..... Pint-sized Tapsell owned the space as she bounded through the crowd and boomed her lines..... www.ntnews.com.au Darwin Theatre Company and Fairy Lights Productions are proud to present Shakespeares most magical comedy, 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'. The Dramaturgy Program at Carnegie Mellon provides a rigorous, highly structured academic and artistic training sequence, emphasizing research methods, aesthetic and critical theories, historical knowledge both broad and deep, and an increasingly challenging practical component that culminates in a professional-level experience with a full-scale theatre production. This program cultivates a hunger for interdisciplinarity and an appreciation of the need for multicultural exchange in the arts universe. There is some flexibility, as well, for the student dramaturg to pursue a particular curiosity about some branch of knowledge or arts practice, within the theatre or within any of the excellent academic disciplines that CMU or her sister universities have to offer. "Whispering Alleys" Winner of the Mayor's Award at the Akko Alternative Theater Festival 2009 Description of the play: The play is designated for a specific place (city, neighborhood, area) and occurs through wandering and walking through this locality and relating its story using various artistic expressions. The special style of the play combines the transmission of information (testimonies of elderly residents of the locality) through headphones, which the audience will have from the beginning of the performance through to its end, to be integrated with non-verbal acting segments which take place in specific parts of the locality. The acting segments create the emotional description of events and situations entwined in the history of the locality and are interrelated to the testimonies. The play is not a historical reconstruction and there is no intention of attempting to reproduce a certain period, event or customs, but to deal with those concealed emotional layers, which are connected to the lives of the inhabitants today and to the history of the locality. The surroundings, the walls and the alleys that were silent witnesses to the private and public events that happened there and molded the lives of its inhabitants, invite us, the audience, on a unique experiential journey, enabling an acquaintance from another viewpoint. The residents living in the alleys along the path of this journey take on an enormous part that is inseparable from the experience. Opposing ...
