There was a high tide in Mumbai on 24 July 2009. This was named highest tide of the century for Mumbai, more than 5 metres. Normal ones are about 4-4.5 metres. It was a little bit of overstatement as the sea water did not rise as much to flood the roads. It did a considerable damage to coastal structures though.
As rains lashed the city, the metropolis is all set to face the highest tide of the season which will hit its shores to.

The tidal waves were clocking in at 4.94 meters this afternoon around 2.43 (nothing compared to what was being touted as the highest tide in 100 years at an impressive 5.05 meters yesterday at 2.03pm.) I dont even know how accurate those numbers are considering the BMC
Experienced the "Highest High Tide" of the 21st century at Prabhadevi Beach near Worli in Mumbai.People were not allowed to go onto the beach due to the massive tidal waves that were reaching upto the parapit walls of the sea-face buildings. The Weather Bureau had forecast a rainy day and had warned citizens of flooding but ironically it proved to be almost a dry day with intermittent scattered showers. I travelled by motorcycle to hotel Mirador at Andheri(East), a distance of 1 hr from Prabhadevi to attend a seminar on"Performance standards of protective coatings" sponsored by Rina(India) and institute of marine Engrs(India) without getting wet, the ironies of destiny and nature.
