Sudan's President Omar al Bashir has warned foreign organisations to respect his government or be kicked out of the country. Bashir, who's wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes, has accused international peacekeepers of harbouring six Darfuris, whom he says instigated violent clashes in the Kalma refugee camp last month. Speaking to Al Jazeera's Mohammed Adow, Ibrahim Gambari, the head of the UN peacekeeping mission in Darfur, says stopping aid work in the region would be irresponsible.

Some 2500 years ago the Battle of Marathon in Greece marked the victory of ancient Athens over the invading Persians. It was a turning point in history - the outcome ensured the subsequent flowering of ancient Greek culture, the legacy of which is still felt today. One of the legends of the battle is the story of a messenger who is said to have run a vast distance from the town of Marathon, across ancient Greece. Barnaby Phillips reports on a woman who has attempted to repeat the historical feat.
Kenya is preparing for a much anticipated vote on constitutional reforms set for Wednesday. The government has dispatched 18000 additional police officers across the country, as some fear the vote could re-ignite ethnic tensions that rocked the country two and a half years ago, leaving 1200 dead. The referendum marks the first national poll in Kenya since the disputed election which precipitated ethnic violence. The promise of a new constitution was essential to the peace deal that ended the bloodshed, but the reforms deal with divisive issues. Andrew Simmons reports from Nairobi, Kenya's capital.
Felipe Calderon, Mexico's president, has warned that the country's drug war is entering a new phase as gangs increasingly target journalists who cover the violence. His warning follows the release of four journalists kidnapped by a cartel in northern Mexico last week. Their release is a rare fate for most abducted journalists in the country, where many have been killed by drug cartels and others remain missing. Al Jazeera's Mariana Sanchez has more on what some journalists see as an attack on the country's media as a whole.

Farmers across Southeast Asia have been forced to change centuries-old traditions as changing weather patterns damage once-fertile lands in the region. For years, Vietnam's Mekong Delta was the country's rice bowl but rising sea levels are now pushing salt waters ever further inland. Many farmers have already given up rice-farming and started cultivating prawns, which for those in southern Vietnam, is proving to be a financially beneficial move. Al Jazeera's Tony Birtley reports from the Cai Nuoc district in south Vietnam. (Aug 01, 2010)
The US government is renewing efforts to keep drug-related violence - and the contraband itself - from spilling over its border with Mexico. But the killing of a rancher in the southwestern US state of Arizona in March has prompted authorities there to press Washington for even tighter security against the traffickers. The ranchers say they have been dragged into the drug war by virtue of their location along a porous and increasingly dangerous border. Al Jazeera's Monica Villamizar reports from a border ranch in Nogales, Arizona, where one rancher shares how he feels about life in the middle of an illegal migration route between Arizona and Mexico.
