From KETC, LIVING ST. LOUIS Producer Ruth Ezell visits with pianist and music educator Tim Garcia and learns about the history of music composition software. What would take composers days or months in the past can now be accomplished in a few hours by students using software such as Finale to compose pieces. Ezell also looks back at the history of music technology, from the era of the player piano to the creation of tools like the Moog synthesizer, which is still used by bands today, including the St. Louis-based band Ludo.
An MPC, or Midi Production Center, was THE tool for hip hop artists in the studio in the 1980s. It fell out of fashion for a while, but now, it's back. The MPC has moved from the studio to the stage and all kinds of performers, from rockers to rappers to classicly trained musicians, are utilizing its beat making abilities. One MC will take us through the MPC transformation, as we see, hear and talk to different kind of musicians, and even non-musicians, who are making this technology the oldest newest trend in music making.
Spent an hour tonight messing around with the new Melodyne Editor - absolutely amazing! Changed the key of one of the most famous a capella singing in rock history, and you can hardly tell the difference in quality. Had to render 2 audio files and join them up for this, as the demo only lets you play with 10 second clips, and I added a tiny bit of reverb... I can't believe we can actually do stuff like this now!

The repertoire played by bands has altered radically over many years. However, commissioning bodies have always been governed by a desire to attract the leading mainstream composers of the day to write original material for the medium. The so-called 'Golden Period', spanning the period between the Great Depression and the Second World War, encapsulates this ambition at its most successful. A sequence of seminal works, by John Ireland, Gustav Holst, Granville Bantock, Herbert Howells, and Sir Edward Elgar revitalised the repertory and placed amateur musicians in a place of honour within the British musical establishment. In an illustrated lecture, Prof. Nicholas Childs and the Black Dyke Band place this music in its wider context, from the production of the first original band compositions in 1913 up until the death of Elgar in 1934.

Mark Katz, a professor at the Peabody Conservatory of Music at The Johns Hopkins University, discussed his book, "Capturing Sound: How Technology Has Changed Music." The event was sponsored by the Library's John W. Kluge Center, the Music Division and the Motion Picture, Broadcasting and Recorded Sound Division. According to Katz, who teaches in the Department of Musicology at the Peabody, there is more to sound recording than just recording sound. Not just a tool for the preservation of music, the technology is a catalyst for change. In "Capturing Sound," Katz writes a wide-ranging, informative and entertaining history of recording's profound impact on the musical life of the past century, from Edison to the Internet.

Apollo 10's amazing encounter with a VERY bizarre anomaly while behind the far side of the Moon. This segment will give you an up-close look at an astounding audio transcript from the Apollo 10 mission that has never before been publicly analyzed - and that NASA and the Apollo 10 astronauts to this day still refuse to talk about. You will follow Tom Stafford, Gene Cernan, and John Young as they become only the second crew in history to journey behind the lunar far side. During this period of "LOS" (Loss Of Signal), the astronauts encounter something truly incredible - they discover MUSIC behind the Moon! *THE DSE and DSEA* Throughout the Apollo program, the CSM and LM spacecraft carried what were known as DSE and DSEA "black box" flight data recorders. These instruments recorded the internal LM and CSM crew conversations while the astronauts were around the lunar far side and out of radio contact with Earth. Although NASA has never made the actual DSE/DSEA audio recordings public, transcripts of these far side conversations are available in the NASA archives, and as you will see, they offer up some truly AMAZING surprises! Here is a link to the Apollo 10 DSEA voice transcript (in PDF format) for those who are interested. www.jsc.nasa.gov Stay tuned for Jose Escamilla's new motion picture documentary "MOON RISING", where we will go into much further depth about what is, without exaggeration, the most monumental coverup in human history. Produced by Chu Bang Fu studio(www.cbflabs.com),introducing the history change of Chinese word. Chu Bong-Foo was born in 1937 in Hubei province in China. In the 1960s, Chu wanted to go to Brazil and immerse himself in the culture. While there, he also studied composition in the Masters Program of the Bahia University School of Music. An opportunity arose in the 1970s that called for him to apply his various talents to organize investors in a major agricultural project in Brazil. This venture did not turn out as planned. Bankrupt, destitute, and unable to return to Taiwan, Chu encountered a hippy group that represented the best aspects of that movement; their monastic practices, rejection of material civilization, and pursuit of the truth attracted him. At 36 years old, he ended up in the largest publishing house in Brazil. Aware of the extensive delays for printing Chinese books, the speed for publishing a book written with the roman alphabet astounded him. From the time the author submitted the draft to the publishing house for editing, printing and available for shipping, it only took twelve hours. He thought that if books in China could be processed as efficiently, Chinese could save their culture from inundation by Western influences. In 1973, perceiving the role computers would play in the future, he knew Chinese characters must be rendered completely compatible with the machine of the next era. Based on his research, he then developed the Cang Jie method to allow ...
