Mustang Sally is a song from the movie soundtrack: The Commitments, (1991). The Commitments is Alan Parker's film, directed in 1991. It is based on the novel The Commitments. Starring Robert Arkins saw Jimmy Rabbitte, Johnny Murphy, Joey "The Lips" Faganina and Colm Meaney Jimmy Rabbitte older. The band members made Michael Aherne, Angeline Ball, Maria Doyle, Dave Finnegan, Bronagh Gallagher, Félim Gormley, Glen Hansard, Dick Massey, Kenneth McCluskey and descriptions of the time only 16-year-old Andrew Strong Decona. Most of the actors were unknown to them, and the selection was emphasized more musicality than acting. Part of the band members set up a movie after a band called The Commitments. The film brought rhythm and blues of the new generation of consciousness in the same manner as The Blues Brothers was made in the 1980s. The Commitments in 2005 was voted all-time best Irish Film. (Mustang Sally is an R&B/straight-forward blues song written and first recorded by Sir Mack Rice in 1965).

By Mack Rice, covered by Wilson Pickett and others. Played on Mountain G aluminum inline ocarina. There's a great recording of this song from the movie "The Commitments". The ocarina cover was, um, waiting to happen. As you can tell, the track ended before I was quite ready, but that's okay; it's rock and roll. The reverb setting I used for this (from DX Reverb Lite's presets) was "medium room warm," because I needed a little more body to mix into that backing track, which is pretty strong. For a solo tune, or with just guitar backing, I think that would be too much reverb. Hopefully it's about right in this mix. The mp3 is at dl.dropbox.com

LINK: tinyurl.com Of the major '60s soul stars, Wilson Pickett was one of the roughest and sweatiest, working up some of the decade's hottest dancefloor grooves on hits like "In the Midnight Hour," "Land of 1000 Dances," "Mustang Sally," and "Funky Broadway." Although he tends to be held in somewhat lower esteem than more versatile talents like Otis Redding and Aretha Franklin, he is often a preferred alternative of fans who like their soul on the rawer side. He also did a good deal to establish the sound of Southern soul with his early hits, which were often written and recorded with the cream of the session musicians in Memphis and Muscle Shoals. Before establishing himself as a solo artist, Pickett sang with the Falcons, who had a Top Ten R&B hit in 1962 with "I Found a Love." "If You Need Me" (covered by the Rolling Stones) and "It's Too Late" were R&B hits for the singer before he hooked up with Atlantic Records, who sent him to record at Stax in Memphis in 1965. One early result was "In the Midnight Hour," whose chugging horn line, loping funky beats, and impassioned vocals combined into a key transitional performance that brought R&B into the soul age. It was an R&B chart-topper and a substantial pop hit (number 21), though its influence was stronger than that respectable position might ...

Sunday night closing out Bonnaroo Phish brought out Bruce to do a few songs...this was the first of three.
Bruce Springsteen surprised the crowd at bonnaroo 2009 during Phish's Sunday night show. Springsteen and Phish played Mustang Sally, Bobby Jean, and Glory Days. mp3s @ www.sendspace.com From Billboard: "After being introduced by Phish frontman/guitarist Trey Anastasio as his "boyhood hero and still hero," Springsteen first handled vocals and guitar on a rollicking "Mustang Sally." The group then turned its attention to Springsteen's catalog: Anastasio contributed speed-fingered guitar work to a jangly, sweet "Bobby Jean," and Springsteen, who assumed the role of bandleader by steering a rough-start "Glory Days" back into calmer waters and calling for "a little more keyboard" for Phish's Page McConnell, led the tens of thousands in the crowd in a massive summertime singalong. It was the song's second appearance in two nights; Springsteen and the E Street Band performed it in their Saturday night slot as well."
