Myoclonic Jerk has no followers yet. Be the first one to follow.
Amy has Lennox Gastaut Syndrome. For years her fingers have jumped and jerked on their own, usually in the morning. BUT Amy also has VLCAD deficiency which causes her blood sugar to drop, I thought she was hungry as she'd gone a while since she ate and was feeding her crackers. You can see about 2 minutes and 45 seconds into the video her hands her shaking. Amy also gets upset easy when things aren't in order and clean and her room had some toys out, so I don't know why she was shaking here, but covered all bases from blood sugar to cleaning to possilbe seizure type.
My son, who has always been kinda fidgety, recently started doing these "happy fingers" a couple months ago when we introduced solid foods at 4 months. He also stiffens up his legs a lot (again when he seems excited). He doesn't do it all the time, as you will see in the video...when his hands are occupied or he's playing with a toy, he's not wiggly. He starts wiggling his fingers at about :07. At about 1:25 he has a slight jerk. He is now almost 9 months and it hasn't stopped. We are starting to get concerned it's something neurological. We took him to our Pediatrician who said the behavior is "odd", but sometimes kids do odd things when their nervous system is still developing but is sending him for an EEG next week. Wondering if those of you how have experience with seizures or spasms think this might be something. Dr. doesn't feel autism is an issue becuase he makes good eye contact and is social. PS—his twin sister is being noisy in the background. Thank you!
My daughter Amy has often has what appears to be sudden twitches or jerks of the shoulders and hands, sometimes the neck and face. I thought I'd share these videos to help others see what a myoclonic seizure can look like. Amy has Lennox Gastaut Syndrome. See how white she turns? These happen often, awake and asleep
If you watch the video, Amy has been having a bad day, you can see her shoulder jerk, she always turns really pale before the seizure almost like she's not breathing right
Seizures are at 20 seconds into the video and again at 30 seconds. This is a brief shot of my 23 month old daughters seizures. Just diagnosed with Myoclonic Epilepsy. This is what they typically look like. Some are shorter, few are longer. None last more than a few seconds with most being just a second long. I have seen several videos of other children's myoclonic but none that resemble my daughters. She has them several times a day but never falls from them. She goes back to normal activity once they are done and doesn't even drop whats in her hand.
Posturing, Dystonia, and Myoclonic Jerks. I was shaking already, but hopefully without sound you can see. this episode lasted 20 minutes no matter how I had my legs positioned
EDIT: We originally labeled this as an absence seizure, but after further review, I believe it was more likely a complex partial. In the beginning I say "now he's not doing it", because he had been blinking his eyes very rapidly and squeezing them shut super tight, then went into staring like this. There were other periods that he had brief muscle twiching in one arm or his eyebrow area. Easter Sunday seizures. He was in and out of these seizures almost continuously for about 40 minutes. This one is clearly absence; he also had some with myoclonic jerking, eye fluttering, and a tonic where he completely stopped breathing for several seconds. This is becoming routine for any holiday or family gathering. I'm near the point of just skipping them.

My Poor Boy - this keeps him awake and when i finally nurse him to sleep a jolt will wake him. Got an ECG soon but not sure if im looking at spams, sandfiders or Myoclonic jerks or just normal baby movements!! It happens a various times of the day with no set pattern and varying degrees of violence. He does it whilst awake and during his sleep, it means he has not really had any great length of deep sleep since this all started when he was 4 weeks ( he is now 8 weeks) Some times he crys and others he just pulls straining faces, for weeks we have been looking at colic, lactose and then reflux , he did have a UTI and we thought that was the cause but as soon as we left hospital the symptoms got worse again - now the Paed seems to think its not tummy cramps after all ( thanks to the video). hence booking him an ecg but my research is proving worrying especially the infantile spasms...any ideas anyone??
This is part 2 of my reaction to Symbyax after one week of taking it. Resulted in severe akathisia that has lasted 5 days and for hours at a time. This morning I colvulsed on the couch and had nomotor functions at all resulting in a trip to the ER. This is what I looked like after the drugs they gave me kicked in. Refer to my first video Akathisia Sean to get the whole story and see more serious symptoms. I did not get video this morning of the seizure-like colvulsions so this is the best videos I have of this. This is after multiple doses of benadryl to counteract the drugs in my system, lots of valum and about an hour. My first video shows what I looked like when I got to the hospital. needless to say I will not be back on Symbyax.
This is when my myoclonic jerks became to much to handle. They were worse a few hours earlier resulting in convulsing on the ground like a severe seizure. I started haeviing parkinsons like movement a week after I started the lowest dose of Symbyax (6mg/25mg). The warnings about Symbyax include akathisia which classified as just restlesness. I wasnt quite prepared for chorea like uncontrolled movements, extreme stuttering, no congnative thought process and nearly the complete inability to control all motor functions. It started 5 days ago after taking just one doze of fluoxetine (prozac 20mg) with the sudden onset of jerking movements then followed by intense fear resulting in contempalting suicide and losing touch with all reality. luckily I was got to in time I had hallucinations and dementia/ This was most likely caused by the Prozac itself and the rest of the time was the effects of the antipsychotic Zyprexa or olanzapine. The next days were better and I thought it would stop but when the seizure-like movements started this morning I was taken to the ER but I dont have video of that After benadryl, valum, and hour passed things werent as bad. Now I have parkinson like movement and the doctor said they should stop up in a couple of days when the Zyprexa (anti-psychotic) is out of my system. needless to say I will not be back on Symbyax. There was misleading, vague, and very little information about akathisia and I wanted people to know this could happen with any ...
This only happens about once every 10 days. It's always the same thing- he's fussy and tired before eating, he shakes, resumes eating and then is very tired afterward. He does not lose consciousness and I can snap him out of it. Today I let it go a bit longer for the sake of the video to help diagnose what it is. Afterward he is very tired. I don't know if he's tired because of the shakes or was so tired it caused the shakes. Is this a benign myoclonic jerk? Sandifers? Seizure?
I am 19 years old and have been having movement problems every since I was 2. They have gradually gotten worse over the years. I have been diagnosed with Essential Tremor, Motor Tic Disorder, and Dystonia. I feel as though none of these cover what I experience. I believe it looks more like myoclonus. I do have a tremor not evident in this video though. If anyone has any suggestions as to what this may be please feel free to comment.
One woman talks about her journey through homelessness, and the priceless compassion that was offered to her and her children through funds donated to United Way of America and then distributed to a local non-profit organization in her hometown of Davenport, Iowa. The name of the non-profit organization is Humility of Mary. The organization provides housing to single parents and their children who have become homeless. Without the support provided through United Way there would be fewer success stories for the Humility of Mary Program. Melissa went to the hospital for the 1st time two weeks after this video was recorded. More than 3 years later, Melissa is still coping with uncontrollable body movements, among other neurological symptoms which have appeared subsequently. Now, Melissa is still eternally grateful for the opportunities afforded to her by Humility of Mary and United Way;although she wonders if she had known sooner what she and her family were going to endure with her body and neurological malfunction. Melissa says, "If the doctors continue to believe that my neurological issues stem from the psychological trauma of this life, and I have Conversion Disorder, I need to do something that will generate awareness about the possible health risks of suffering losses, living with domestic abuse, and the growing culture of people are at the root of people finding their way. If they are right, there has to be a marker at which this could have been prevented.
Just a slightly comical look at how Multiple Sclerosis affects my day. Left the background noise of my children playing & turning their music up too loud (yes there was a competition going on between The Sound of Music Soundtrack and Michael Jackson!)- gives you an idea of the little joys I have in life :-)
This is the second in the video series of us messing around during rehearsals, sorry it has been a while but i had to get a new cable to import the video because my stupid model of mac doesn't have a firewire :( that is why the quality isn't as good. Anyway this is us messing around and it became something quite special to us and was often used as a warm-up exercise because it was just fun to do.
Bertrand during the 3rd week on a 3:1 ratio ketogenic diet (12/03/2009). In this video, Bertrand is having complex partial seizures with automatisms (mouthing) and myoclonus (jerking and hiccups). Bertrand is recovering from almost 2 weeks with a severe cold. In spite of this, his seizures are still very much improved. Taken at the same time and place (after dinner and keppra) as the videos entitled "Bertrand Pre-Keto", "Bertrand Post-Keto Day 1", "Bertrand Post-Keto Day 2" and "Bertrand Post-Keto Day 4" for ease of comparison.
Brief, shock-like jerks and jolts in autistic person during epileptic myoclonus after awakening
Our son is 11 months old now. He started having these "jerks" on 10.26 (the night before he'd fallen and bumped the back of his head (not seriously)). These started the following evening, before bedtime. We've consulted Pediatric Neurologists, but they haven't confirmed these movements as seizures. EEG results came back normal. Four days later his "jerks" subsided, and had nearly disappeared. Our biggest concern is that following these "jerky" episodes, his development and personality had changed for about a week. We've also noticed that these movements(jerks) are usually triggered by his emotions and do not occur during sleep. We're looking for some feedback as to what (if anything) he might have. Thanks.

SalemRose88's webcam recorded Video - August 12, 2009, 10:23 PM These are what I was told are myoclonic seizures considering that not only does my head jerk but my arms jerk as well which is why my computer kept bouncing. I wish these myoclonics would go away as they are annoying because no one truly understands how much they truly affect me. My friends and strangers laugh or say bless you when these occur and I am constantly having to explain that I am not sneezing. I hope if anyone else experiences this that they would feel free to share their experience. Thank you.

What Is OMS? Opsoclonus Myoclonus Syndrome is an extremely rare auto-immune disorder that affects as few as 80 children a year in the United States. It is caused by a neuroblastoma, a cancerous tumor, or a virus. It is thought that antibodies in the immune system designed to fight off the tumor (or virus) end up attacking the brain as well. The symptoms of OMS are frightening. A young child who is growing and developing normally suddenly begins to shake uncontrollably and has severe muscle ...
This is a video I caught of my son Reid who has OMS during some eye jerking movements and during one of is irritable moments. It is a little dark because it was from my phone and hard to see them, but look carefully.......there are noticeable ones around 10 seconds. He did not even realize he was there.....his eyes were fluttering quickly and Reid was not able to focus on me. Video was taken on Sunday March 29th, 2009....almost 4 months after onset of symptoms in November 2008....

He looks utterly confused for a minute, then he goes right back to playing. The times are-
This is video of my son. He appears to be having a mild absance seizure in the beginning, then comes out of it. Or maybe not? At 0:12, he begins looking like he is fighting something, maybe an aura, then at 0:52, he has a sort of jerk and vocal outburst. Then he continues to watch tv like he had befor I picked up the camera. Input is greatly appreciated.

Charlie started doing more jerking and usually in response to stimuli.
