November 7, 1995 www.amazon.com Watch the full lecture: thefilmarchived.blogspot.com In September 1991, after his own government -- led by Prime Minister René Préval -- failed a non-confidence vote by the FNCD-controlled parliament, Aristide attempted to rule alone. The army performed a coup against him. He was deposed on September 29, 1991, and, in accordance with the requirements of Article 149 of the Haitian Constitution, Superior Court Justice Joseph Nérette was installed as Président Provisoire to serve until elections were held within 90 days of Aristide's resignation. However, real power was held by army commander Raoul Cédras. The elections were scheduled, but were canceled. Aristide and other sources claim that both the coup and the election cancellation were the result of pressure from the American government. High ranking members of the Haitian National Intelligence Service (SIN), which had been set up and financed in the 80's by the Central Intelligence Agency as part of the war on drugs, were involved in the coup, and were reportedly still receiving funding and training from the CIA for intelligence-gathering activities at the time of the coup, but this funding reportedly ended after the coup. A New York Times investigation found no evidence of CIA involvement in the coup. However, press reports about possible CIA involvement in Haitian politics before the coup sparked Congressional hearings in the United States. A campaign of terror against Aristide ...
December 10, 1993 www.amazon.com Watch the full lecture: thefilmarchived.blogspot.com The North American Free Trade Agreement's impact on United States employment has been the object of ongoing debate since the 1994 inception of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) with Canada and Mexico. NAFTA's proponents believe that more jobs are ultimately created in the USA. They point to factors such as growth in the export industry and lower unemployment rates as evidence of NAFTA's benevolence to US workers. Opponents see the agreements as costly to well-paying American jobs in the short run. Declines in employment opportunities within manufacturing industries and increases in trade deficits are some of the negative side effects of NAFTA pointed out by the critics. NAFTA's opponents attribute much of the displacement caused in the US labor market to the United States' growing trade deficits with Mexico and Canada. According to the EPI, the widening of the deficit has caused the dislocation of domestic production to other countries with cheaper labor and supported the loss of 879280 US jobs. Critics see the argument of the proponents of NAFTA as being one-sided because they only take into consideration export-oriented job impact instead of looking at the trade balance in aggregate. They argue that increases in imports ultimately displaced the production of goods that would have been made domestically by workers within the United States. The export-oriented argument is ...

The attack quickly killed thousands of people (around 5000 dead) and injured around 11000, most of them civilians; thousands more died of complications, diseases, and birth defects in the years after the attack. The incident, which has been officially defined as an act of genocide against the Kurdish people in Iraq, is the largest chemical weapons attack directed against a civilian-populated area in history. The Halabja genocide has been recognized as a separate event from the Anfal Genocide that was also conducted against the Kurdish people by the Iraqi regime under Saddam Hussein. The Iraqi High Criminal Court recognized the Halabja massacre as genocide on March 1, 2010, in a decision welcomed by the Kurdistan Regional Government. Free trade is a system of trade policy that allows traders to act and or transact without interference from government. According to the law of comparative advantage the policy permits trading partners mutual gains from trade of goods and services. Under a free trade policy, prices are a reflection of true supply and demand, and are the sole determinant of resource allocation. Free trade differs from other forms of trade policy where the allocation of goods and services amongst trading countries are determined by artificial prices that may or may not reflect the true nature of supply and demand. Ahhh NAFTA, the North American Free Trade Agreement... the rich get richer, the poor get poorer, and the browner you are the worse you have it. It took effect in 1994 and after a few years it started taking its toll. So in late 2003 when the Chicago Lumpen crew held their KARAOKE contest for "protest karaoke" videos, this seemed the right target. And so was born "The NAFTA Dance", this parody video to "Safety Dance" by Men Without Hats. I won't lie -- I was a big fan of Safety Dance and Men Without Hats back 1984. Thus, being intimately familiar with the original words, I took pains to make the parody words pretty close to the original. Watch the lead singer's mouth and tell me he isn't singing my words. Uh-huh.. Oh, and this video won the contest. Thanks Lumpen! That small-size T-shirt fit my 6'4" body like a charm. Not. Now in 2009 as I see this again, it still seems largely current... no corrections needed, I think. For more anti-acronym karaoke action, see our DMCA (a la YMCA) karaoke video: www.youtube.com

On Wed., Dec. 10, 2008, a demonstration at the Bank of America (BOA) was held in downtown Baltimore, MD. It was led by activists from the All Peoples Congress, among other groups. The purpose of the protest was to show solidarity with the 200 "Sit-In" Republic Windows and Door Workers of Chicago, Il, whose plant has been shut down. The BOA canceled the company's financing. Its action left the workers without any severance and vacation pay. Critics are insisting that the BOA should use some of the billions of dollars it received in a recent federal-taxpayers-funded bailout to help the workers. The BOA, in turn, blames the company for this situation. For background, see: www.ueunion.org and www.counterpunch.org At the heart of this problem is the out sourcing of US jobs, via so called "Free Trade" agreements, which have been endorsed by Conservatives, like Orrin Hatch (R-Utah); and Liberals, such as Barbara Mikulski (D-MD). It is time to renegotiate "NAFTA" and for the Labor Movement to lead that charge. Check out: www.economyincrisis.org and www.renegotiatenafta.org Activists underscored their demand that the federal government bailout workers and not the Wall Street banksters and to stop the plant closings. Watch this important update on the North American Union and "Public-Private Partnerships" by Tom DeWeese. "Public-private partnerships" are government sanctioned monopolies, often with foreign corporations, which but Americna assets like our roads and charge tolls for their use. The government then guarantees a guaranteed profit to the corporation for decades which could become a major taxpayer liability in the future. Mr DeWeese discusses one use of these partnerships; the Spanish CINTRA Trans-Texas Corridor (part of the NAFTA Superhighway). He warns people thet the highway will have no overpasses, cutting comminuties in two. Your action is needed to block the Obama administration from increasingly selling our public infrastructure to foreign corporations, and to block the North American Union, Amero and NAFTA Superhighway from advancing. Members of the Chicago Trade with Justice Working Group paid a visit to the Obama for America headquarters in Chicago on Dec. 15, 2007. They wanted to tell Senator Barack Obama that they are concerned with his failure to appear at the recent Senate vote on the US-Peru "Free Trade" Agreement. They left a statement for Obama, a current candidate for US President, and expressed their disappointment that he skipped the vote on the Peru trade pact. They were even more concerned that Obama, along with Sen Hillary Clinton, made public statements supporting the Peru Trade deal and that Illinois Senator from Illinois, Dick Durbin, voted in favor of it. A Global Uprising is Needed WARNING: SHOCKING CONTENT This is not just about our current leaders or our individual nations. This is about an unjust world-wide system that we must fight to change. Freedom and our Constitution will have no place in this grim Orwellian future. The Dollar will be scrapped for the "Amero" formed by including Mexican and Canadian currencies (or a global currency led by Red China, Russia and Venezuela) and Socialist economic policies.
