Nana Mouskouri (in Greek, Nανά ÎοÏÏÏοÏÏη) (born Ioanna Mouskouri on October 13, 1934, in Chania, Crete, Greece) is a singer of Greek origin. She was known as Nana to her friends and family as a child. She recorded many of her songs in many different languages, including Greek, French, English, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Latin, Hebrew, Corsican and Japanese among others. She is noted for her trademark squarish black-rimmed eyeglasses and straight black hair parted in the middle, and her songs of melancholy, longing, and sentimental musings upon love, for which the emotion of her voice is exceptionally suited. Mouskouri has recorded from the 1960s into the new millennium. She has tailored releases to specific international markets with tremendous success.<p>Mouskouri's family lived in Chania, Crete, where her father, Constantine, worked as a film projectionist in a local cinema.
