Metallica -The Ecstasy Of Gold - Live at Copenhagen July 28, 2009. History about The Band. Metallica is an American heavy metal band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1981. Founded when drummer Lars Ulrich posted an advertisement in a local newspaper, Metallica's line-up has primarily consisted of Ulrich, rhythm guitarist and vocalist James Hetfield, and lead guitarist Kirk Hammett, while going through a number of bassists. Currently, the spot is held by Robert Trujillo. Metallica's early releases included fast tempos, instrumentals, and aggressive musicianship that placed them as one of the "big four" of the thrash metal subgenre alongside Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax during the genre's development into a popular style. The band earned a growing fan base in the underground music community and critical acclaim, with the 1986 release Master of Puppets described as one of the most influential and "heavy" thrash metal albums. The band achieved substantial commercial success with Metallica (1991), which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. With this release the band expanded its musical direction resulting in an album that appealed to a more mainstream audience. In 2000, Metallica was among several artists who filed a lawsuit against Napster for sharing the band's copyright-protected material for free without the band members' consent. A settlement was reached, and Napster became a pay-to-use service. Despite reaching number one on the Billboard 200, the release ...

When Comcast first came nation wide they needed a advertising campaign that would make people become willing to pay $55 a month for Internet. They decided the best way of doing this would be to flaunt how easy it is download both music and movies using broadband. To the point that everyone knew that broadband means copyright infringement. Why else in the world would you pay that much for Internet when dial up was only $15 - $20 a month? Granted people were already committing copy right infringement on dial up, it just took a whole lot longer. And there's no question that if you are going to make a world wide network created to share the world's data (ok ok, so I know it was made for the military first.) that a large chunk of that data would be copy righted. In fact when I first got dial up I just assumed that one of the biggest reasons to get it would be copy right infringement. The Internet is file sharing. The Internet is one huge share folder. The nature of old media and the nature of the Internet directly clash with each other. One will have to give. Comcast is now pretending that they think copy right infringement is a bad thing even tho they built their business model on it and now the copy right holders of the world are meeting together to create and pass international treats on copy rights using their favorite puppet, the US government. Pandora CEO Joe Kennedy shares a history lesson about radio, and current subscription modelsIn this segment, Bambi Francisco interviewed Joe Kennedy, CEO of Pandora, a personalized radio station that creates music stations based on personal preferences. BF: You've been the CEO of Pandora for five years so you've become a student of radio. Give us a brief history lesson on the evolution of radio since the 1920's, some milestones and how the Internet is taking it to the next level.JK: Radio does go back to about 1920 in the US Back then, picture people in their homes listening to the World Series or listening to an address by the President or HG Wells' "War with the world." Fast forward, TV comes along, grabs entertainment off the radio and so radio becomes more about music and continues to grow right ... [vator.tv read more]

This is my second metal composition for YouTube! All of these riffs were written during the past 3 months, and I spent quite a bit of time coming up with an arrangement that worked. It was more challenging than "Arrival", because there are 4 tempo and time signature changes in the song! I had to experiment a bit to make the transitions between these sections smooth, but I'm pretty happy with the finished product. I think it's quite different from my first song ("Arrival"), but hopefully you will like it! As usual, I recorded all guitar and bass (pitch-shifted guitar) tracks direct using my Line 6 POD X3. Drum tracks were created using Toontrack EZdrummer with the Drumkit ...
This song is available at iTunes, Amazon, Napster, Rhapsody, CDFreedom, and eMusic. Visit me at: www.KristinaScarcelli.com http STORY BEHIND THE SONG: I was inspired to record this song after visiting Gettysburg, Pennsylvania in the summer of 2008, during the 145th anniversary of the famous American Civil War battle that took place there on July 1 - 3, 1863. 51000 Americans were casualties in three days of the bloodiest fighting in our nation's history. This was the place where, as teenage boys, my Great Great Grandfather and his brother fought bravely for the Union and tracing their footsteps across those killing fields had a tremendously profound impact on me. I was struck by the magnitude of their good fortune to have survived yet burned indelibly into my mind were the images of the thousands of those who were not so fortunate ... many of whom still lie in nameless graves. "Faded Coat of Blue (The Nameless Grave)" was originally written by John Hugh McNaughton in the later days of the Civil War in 1864. The song relates the grief of a mother whose son, a Union solider, has been killed in battle and buried on the field by his comrades. The lyrics of this song will seem to some, at first glance, remarkably maudlin if not downright morbid. But one must understand that this song poignantly reflects an America in mourning and the utter despair that gripped our nation, both north and south, during and after the Civil War. Walt Whitman said: "Future years will never know the ...

"The Very Best Historic Voices" (25 Rare Recordings From Some Of The Most Important People At The Turn The 20th Century) cdbaby.com I hope you won't mind my hawking my wares here a bit, but it really is a good deal for everybody. I've been collecting and restoring old historical public domain recordings (mostly speeches) for a number of years. Last year I finally decided to come out with a CD of what I thought were likely the best of the bunch. Individual tracks from the CD can be bought as MP3 downloads in the usual places (Amazon, CDBaby Napster etc.) And those who aren't interested in buying the CD or MP3's will still be able to at least hear short excerpts here from each speaker on the disc. This collection of historic recordings is in the public domain to the best of my knowledge. I've done my best to track down any copyright holders, and as of this moment I've not been able to find any claimants. Copyright laws are not without loopholes however, and even the British National Library has been forced to remove CD's from their catalogues due to copyright infringement a time or two. Having said all that, as far as I'm concerned, the purchaser of this CD is granted permission to use any of the works therein for any purpose whatever so long as it relates to a work of art. This includes movie documentaries, school projects, televised programming, or most anything else you can think of. What you cannot do is copy and resell anything here as part of an audio CD! And for the first time, we hear how it happened from the men and women who made it possible. From the founders of eBay, Yahoo, Amazon, Netscape, Google and many others, we hear amazing stories of how, in ten short years, the Internet took over our lives. These extraordinary men and women tell us how they went from being geeky, computer obsessed nerds to being 21st-century visionaries in the time it takes most people to get their first promotion. And, how they made untold billions along the way. The style of the story-telling is up close and personal. With first-hand testimony from the people that matter, we tell a story that has all the excitement of a thriller -- full of battles and back-stabbing, moments of genius and moments of sheer hilarity. You will never surf the net in the same way again. Download is hosted by ...

Many years ago, Doublethink Magazine held an audio interview with The ECC, the idea being that we'd collaboratively chop up the result into something more creative. I don't think the public ever got to hear that, but we liked their intro history of The ECC -- so we grabbed that and made a video for it. It could use some updating ("14 years" has now become 20), but it nicely sums up our high points in only 90 seconds.

Man is God. He is everywhere, he is anybody, he knows everything. This is the Prometeus new world. All started with the Media Revolution, with Internet, at the end of the last century. Everything related to the old media vanished: Gutenberg, the copyright, the radio, the television, the publicity. The old world reacts: more restrictions for the copyright, new laws against non authorized copies. Napster, the music peer to peer company is sued. At the same time, free internet radio appears; TIVO, the internet television, allows to avoid publicity; the Wall Street Journal goes on line; Google launches Google news. Millions of people read daily the biggest on line newspaper. Ohmynews written by thousands of journalists; Flickr becomes the biggest repository in the history of photos, YouTube for movies. The power of the masses. A new figure emerges: the prosumer, a producer and a consumer of information. Anyone can be a prosumer. The news channels become available on Internet. The blogs become more influential than the old media. The newspapers are released for free. Wikipedia is the most complete encyclopedia ever. In 2007 Life magazine closes. The NYT sells its television and declares that the future is digital. BBC follows. In the main cities of the world people are connected for free. At the corners of the streets totems print pages from blogs and digital magazines. The virtual worlds are common places on the Internet for millions of people. A person can have multiple on ...

A revealing 9-minute interview with Russ Solomon, founder of Tower Records, about the music retailing giant's rise and fall. He also talks about Napster, the ipod (he won't use one), trends in the music industry, and how the CD isn't dead.
My 1996 performance on homebuilt electronic organ. Despite limitations of the recording equipment, low budget & organ balance calibrations at the time, this was a highly acclaimed performance topping the classical charts for a long time on the former mp3.com before that site tanked from the piracy lawsuits. It's on my 'Pipe Organ Story' CD here: www.MuSeeks.com This recording has often been mistaken or compared with that of E. Power Biggs (on the Harvard Flentrop Organ). Obviously influenced. His blows away Virgil Fox's, in capturing the Heavenly Essence, IMHO. The CD made the Year-In-Review Top 20 all-time on mp3.com in 1999 (in sales and listens). Mp3.com was the only site paying Artists per click, (youTube doesn't), and was the first time that independent classical artists could actually pay rent and food based on merit rather than on what Label you were on. This helps the Economy, because the more genuine artists can then focus on their craft rather than give it up to wear an employee badge. More people would be inspired, less cynical, more constructive and so on. Unfortunately, mp3.com's revenue base got demolished when Napster, Kazaa etc. popped up, and everyone flocked from legit sites to piracy sites, like moo-ing cows. (Say "mooo!"). Little piglet kids were pirating left and right with full parental approval (Say "Oink Oink!"). Those parents should be sued, and should lose their car and house like I nearly did. Even people earning a good living, who could easily ...
