Report. An aerial video crew observed the October 28, 2009 Ares IX test flight from a Cessna Skymaster aircraft positioned approx. 10 nautical miles away from the vehicle at an altitude of 12000 feet. The videographer used a gyro-stabilized high-definition camera system mounted to the outside of the aircraft to capture this spectacular footage. This footage provides extremely valuable engineering data, and imagery of the recovery sequence in rarely-seen detail. Ares IX is the first flight test of the Constellation Program and provides NASA an early opportunity to gather critical data during vehicle ascent and during booster deceleration and recovery. If a recognizable person appears in this video, use for commercial purposes may infringe a right of privacy or publicity. It may not be used to state or imply the endorsement by NASA employees of a commercial product, process or service, or used in any other manner that might mislead. Accordingly, it is requested that if this video is used in advertising and other commercial promotion, layout and copy be submitted to NASA prior to release.
Nasa Ares 1 Test Launch Camera Set 2 October 28 2009.
nasa's Ares IX rocket lifted off on Oct. 28 Launch Complex 39B at nasa's Kennedy Space Center in Florida for a two-minute powered flight. The time from launch until splash down of the rocket's booster stage nearly 150 miles down range was approximately six minutes. The launch marks the first time in nearly three decades that NASA has successfully tested a new rocket design at the same complex used for the Apollo and space shuttle programs.

Teamwork Brings About Successful Ares IX Launch Courtesy NASA: Wed, 28 Oct 2009 02:18:57 PM EDT Outstanding teamwork was the theme of the Ares IX postlaunch news conference as the successful flight test was discussed. "I can't say enough about this team," said Doug Cooke, associate administrator for the Exploration Systems Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington. "They've been together probably a little over three years now, and they went from a concept to flying this vehicle in that period of time, which is the first time this has been done by a human spaceflight team in a long time." Referring to the weather, which was the only issue of the day, Constellation Program Manager Jeff Hanley said, "We were ready when Mother Nature was ready, and we took our opportunity and what a great outcome. We're very proud of the result." "It was a spectacular day," said Bob Ess, Ares IX mission manager. "The vehicle flew even better than we expected." "It is just a fantastic day," said Launch Director Ed Mango. "The team really excelled. I can't say enough about the folks who worked together to go make this thing happen. It was a great team, and as you can tell, it was a great vehicle." nasa's Ares IX test rocket lifted off at 11:30 am EDT Wednesday from nasa's Kennedy Space Center in Florida for a two-minute powered flight. The flight test lasted about six minutes from its launch from the newly modified Launch Pad 39B until splashdown of the rocket's booster stage nearly 150 miles downrange.

NASA Ares 1-X Rocket Test Flight from Kennedy Space Center's Visitor Center.
Amid mounting questions and debate about the future of US human spaceflight, the world's tallest rocket was successfully launched Wednesday on a $445 million test flight for NASA's moon program. The 327-foot-tall Ares 1-X rocket blasted off at 11:30 am EDT (1530 GMT) Wednesday, clearing the tower at launch pad 39B in six seconds and steering east from the Kennedy Space Center. The solid-fueled rocket darted through low-level cumulus clouds a few moments later, flying into the upper atmosphere before running out of fuel at 130000 feet two minutes after liftoff.
www.spaceflightnews.net - For the first time in over 28 years, a rocket other than the space shuttle lifts off from Launch Complex 39 at NASA's Kennedy Space Center. This video was shot from the KSC PRess Site adjacent to the Launch Control Center. The launch of the Ares IX test rocket is the first flight of NASA's Constellation program, a prelude to the Ares I, which seeks to return humans to the Moon and then fly to Mars and beyond. The flight of the Ares rocket lifted off 38 years and 1 day after the very first Apollo Saturn rocket launched. For more Ares and Constellation news and multimedia, visit The Spacearium at http

Video of the Ares 1-x rocket launch, Taken from river across from the pad next to the cruise ship at Port canaveral. Around the 2:30's it gets a bit rough. Got red ants on my foot so i tried getting them off without losing it. The Ares launch was delayed, due to the fact the clouds had a electric charge which would sever communication between the rocket & Mission Control. If the rocket went off course, they would of immediately detonated it.

Video 2 minutes before take off to 8 minutes after the October 28 successful launch. The Ares 1-X is a trial version of the rocket NASA intends to move astronauts to low-Earth orbit aboard an Orion spacecraft. Ares IX stands at about 327 feet — 14 stories taller than nasas space shuttles, making it especially challenging. nasas plans to return astronauts to the moon by 2020 are currently under review by the Obama administration.

The Ares IX rolled out of the Vehicle Assembly Building at Kennedy Space Center on the night of October 19, traveling the 4.2 miles to the launch pad over the span of about 6 hours. The launch of the Ares IX, the first test flight of the new Ares I crew launch vehicle, is scheduled for the morning of October 27.

In the Vehicle Assembly Building at nasas Kennedy Space Center in Florida, a time lapse camera documented the buildup of the Ares IX flight test rocket. The first video was on Nov. 3, 2008 and the final video was on Aug. 30, 2009. It began with the arrival and integration of the upper stage, or second stage elements, in high bay 4. This was followed in high bay 3 by the stacking of the four solid rocket booster segments on the mobile launcher platform comprising the first stage. The primary elements of the second stage were each then hoisted high above high bay 4, moved across the transfer aisle into high bay 3 and lowered atop the first stage. It concluded as the service module simulator, crew module simulator and launch abort system simulator now integrated together were hoisted into place atop what then became the fully assembled Ares IX flight test vehicle. The Ares IX is targeted to liftoff on Oct. 31 from Kennedys Launch Pad 39B.
Presented by collectspace.com -- The Source for Space History and Artifacts. On Sept. 10, 2009, NASA and industry engineers lit up the Utah sky with the initial full-scale, full-duration test firing of the first stage motor for the Ares I rocket. The Ares I is a crew launch vehicle in development for nasa's Constellation Program. ATK Space Systems conducted the successful stationary firing of the five-segment solid development motor 1, or DM-1. ATK Space Systems, a division of Alliant Techsystems of Brigham City, Utah, is the prime contractor for the Ares I first stage. Engineers will use the measurements gathered from the test to evaluate thrust, roll control, acoustics and motor vibrations. This data will provide valuable information as NASA develops the Ares I and Ares V vehicles. Another ground test is planned for summer 2010. Video DM-1 Red Camera (Credit: NASA)

NASA tested the new first-stage solid rocket motor for the Ares I rocket. The static firing of the five-segment solid motor, designated development motor -1 was conducted at the ATK test facility in Promontory, Utah.
This is the Constellation plan by NASA, it will show you the steps to get to the moon by using the Ares 1 with the Orion, and the Ares V with the Altair Lunar Lander.
Another major milestone in the launch of nasa's Ares IX rocket flight test has been achieved in Kennedy Space Center's Vehicle Assembly Building. The four aft solid rocket booster segments were stacked, or assembled, July 1 on a mobile launcher platform in High Bay 3. This will allow the stacking of the upper stage simulator components atop the segments later in July.
