The Chernobyl disaster was a well-known nuclear accident of catastrophic proportions that occurred on 26 April 1986, at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine (then in the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, part of the Soviet Union). It is considered the worst nuclear power plant accident in history and is the only level 7 event on the International Nuclear Event Scale. The disaster occurred on 26 April 1986, 1:23 AM, at reactor number four at the Chernobyl plant, near the town of Pripyat, during an unauthorized systems test. A sudden power output surge took place, and when an attempt was made at an emergency shutdown, a more extreme spike in power output occurred which led to the rupture of a reactor vessel as well as a series of explosions. This event exposed the graphite moderator components of the reactor to air and they ignited; the resulting fire sent a plume of radioactive fallout into the atmosphere and over an extensive area, including Pripyat. The plume drifted over large parts of the western Soviet Union, and much of Europe. As of December 2000, 350400 people had been evacuated and resettled from the most severely contaminated areas of Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine. According to official post-Soviet data, up to 70% of the fallout landed in Belarus.

From communion with the dead, zupumpkins an pranks, Halloween is a patchwork holiday stick together with cultural religious and a call traditions that span centuries. It all began with the Celts a people whose culture has spread across Europe more than two thousand year ago. October thirty-first was the date they celebrated the end of the hotter season in a festival called Samhain. Then may also mark the Celtic new year he must consider the time between years a magical time when the ghost of the dead walked the earth. David Skal (author of the book: Halloween History): It was the time when the veil between dead and life was suppose had to be a finished. On Samhain the villagers gather in a huge bone fire to drive the dead back to the spirit world and keep them away from the living. But as the catholic church's influence grow in Europe it frown on the pagan rituals like Samhain. In the seventh centuries the Vatican begin to merging with the church saint's holyday, so November first was designated All Saints' day to honors martyrs ended the seethes Faithfull. David Skal: Both of these holyday that have to do is the afterworld and about survive the afterworld. It was to calculated move in a part of the church to bring more people into their own. All saints' day was known then as Hallowmas. Allow means holy or saintly. So the translation is morphed in mass of the saints. The night before, October thirty-first was All Hallows Eve. Witch gradually morphed into Halloween. The ...

Three years in the making. The most ambitious endeavor in National Geographic's 122 year history. They move as millions to survive as one. National Geographic Channel's Great Migrations is a seven-part global programming event that takes viewers around the world on the arduous journeys millions of animals undertake to ensure the survival of their species. Shot from land and air, in trees and cliff-blinds, on ice floes and underwater, Great Migrations tells the formidable, powerful stories of many of the planet's species and their movements, while revealing new scientific discoveries with breathtaking high-definition clarity. Coming this November 2010 on the National Geographic Channel!
London-based, British Voiceover Artist Mike Cooper, narrates "Pacific Ocean Paradise" for Earth Day 2010 on the National Geographic Channel. In a remote corner of the South Pacific, National Geographic Explorer Enric Sala one of the worlds leading marine ecologists leads an elite team into an isolated underwater Eden. Sharks reign in the southern Line Islands, where humans rarely visit and survival is still of the fittest. Completing a daring survey of life on the reef from the micro to the mega, the research team uncovers secrets in what could be the last unspoiled archipelago on Earth. Covering nearly 3300 kilometres on the 30-day expedition, the team faces a host of dangers exposed to powerful currents and huge waves. What they find calls into question everything we know about a healthy reef ecosystem. Along the journey, they find over three times as much coral as any other reef in the Indo-Pacific on Flint Island. Surrounding Malden Island the test site of three nuclear bombs in 1958 the team finds a reef exploding with life and ten times more sharks than any other studied reef on the planet. Millennium Atoll offers a surprising refuge for blacktip reef sharks while Starbuck Island has the second largest biomass of any reef ever studied.
