Video shot on camera sent down through emergency shaft shows men in good spirits Video from inside the mine where Chilean miners are trapped Link to this video The first video footage of the 33 Chilean miners who have been trapped underground for three weeks shows the men in good spirits, singing the national anthem and chanting, "Long live Chile, and long live the miners." The men shot the video with a camera sent down to them through a small shaft drilled to their emergency shelter in the San José mine. Five minutes of what is understood to be a 45-minute video were released late yesterday by the Chilean government. In the grainy, night-vision footage, the men appear stripped to the waist and with thick beards. One miner gives a guided tour of the small shelter where the men took refuge when a landslide trapped them inside the mine on 5 August. He explains that he and his colleagues have enough room to stand and lie down, points out the "little cup to brush our teeth", and the place where they pray each day. "We have everything organised," he says. The few items they have are carefully laid out: a first aid cabinet, shelves holding unidentified bottles, mats in a corner for rest. As the camera fixes on a table where dominoes have been laid out, the tour guide says that "this is where we entertain ourselves, where we play cards". He added: "We meet here every day. We plan, we have assemblies here every day so that all the decisions we make are based on the thoughts of ...

www.RFCHECK.com Our nations workers and the welfare of their families are at risk! A national public health and RF safety crisis exists! Current RF safety measures fail to protect workers and must be replaced by a new paradigm. Until then, thousands of unsuspecting workers will be injured every day at wireless antenna sites. The consequences of not protecting workers from RF radiation will be devastating to not only them and their families; but to all those who are involved, including employers, building owners, all FCC licensees and insurance companies. By Jim Kouri Dec 27, 2009 A Nigerian man claiming to be part of the al-Qaeda terrorist group was charged in a federal criminal complaint late yesterday with attempting to destroy a Northwest Airlines aircraft on its final approach to Detroit Metropolitan Airport on Christmas Day, and with placing a destructive device on the aircraft, according to an NYPD-FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force report obtained by the Terrorism Committee of the National Association of Chiefs of Police According to an affidavit filed in support of the criminal complaint, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, 23, a Nigerian national, boarded Northwest Flight 253 in Amsterdam, Netherlands on December 24, 2009 and had a device attached to his body. As the flight was approaching Detroit Metropolitan Airport, Abdulmutallab set off the device, which resulted in a fire and what appears to have been an explosion. Abdulmutallab was then subdued and restrained by the passengers and flight crew. The airplane landed shortly thereafter, and he was taken into custody by Customs and Border Patrol officers. A preliminary FBI analysis found that the device contained PETN, also known as pentaerythritol, a high explosive. Further analysis is ongoing. In addition, FBI agents recovered what appear to be the remnants of the syringe from the vicinity of Abdulmutallabs seat, believed to have been part of the device. "This alleged attack on a US airplane on Christmas Day shows that we must remain vigilant in the fight against terrorism ...

I went to visit the CN Safety day, and took a ride on board the RDC car as they made one of the trips through to the VIA station and back to the CN yard. The video was shot through the glass looking outside. The door was open just a crack so that I was able to talk to the Friendly Conductor, who was working on board the train today. In this video, the train is passing by Marsh Junction, heading towards the CN yard. Good show. Thanks Luc!

The ultimate "Sounds of Hatari" video? Maybe. A musical trailer for Cineflix' "Mayday: Runaway Train?" Perhaps... More than that, though, it's been 20 years since this took place: none of us can forget...or should. To the crews who haven't sent another runaway down the Pass: keep up the good work! KNOW YOUR TRAIN! PS: I would like to thank the more than 30 of you (mostly young ladies, from what my demographic indicators said) who watched this on May 12, 2009: the 20th anniversary of the event this depicts. Hopefully, you also watched the complete "Mayday: Runaway Train" series, of which this is Episode 2, scored to Henry Mancini's "Sounds of Hatari." (II have the complete series listed here as a playlist). Let us hope that another 20 years passes without anything like this coming down the tracks: if I have reminded train crews, yardmasters, shippers, etc. of what can happen when they get their wires crossed, hence helping to prevent it from ever happening again (and, inter alia, also reminding city and county officials of what may come down any track, any time....and therefore of where they shouldn't issue building permits so promiscuously)....well then, my job is done, and communities such as ours can breathe a little easier.
This rail safety video, based on "MSTS Runaway on Cajon Pass" by csxES44DC , is intended both for your enjoyment, and as a safety video for train crews: TO THE TRAIN CREWS: DON'T LET THIS BE YOU! DON'T MAKE MY RENZENBERGER VAN INTO AN AMBULANCE OR HEARSE! KNOW YOUR TRAIN!
THE NORTH FACE SKI CHALLENGE INTRODUCES SUCCESSFUL MOUNTAIN SAFETY DAY BY: MICHEL BEAUDRY Val Thorens: They came. They saw. They listened. In an innovative twist to the conventional ski event format, the organizers of The North Face Ski Challenge took time out today to introduce their invited athletes to some of the ski industrys most experienced mountain professionals. And the theme was all about respect. Respect for yourself. Respect for others. And above all, respect for the mountains. This was an opportunity to sensitize a new generation of young riders to mountain safety, said event director Romain Raisson. I mean, hanging out in the terrain park is one thing, but venturing out into the high country means taking on a whole new level of responsibility. We wanted to make sure these kids understood that. And I think it really worked well. It seemed to me the kids learned some important lessons today. No question. Slovak riders Richard Jurecka and Pavol Kuric both said they got a lot out of the days proceedings. This is all new stuff to us, said Richard in halting English. But it was very interesting. I didnt know there was so much to learn about travelling and skiing in the backcountry It was the same thing for teenage Finnish rider Anttijussi Heikkinen. Our hills are too small for avalanches, he explained. So Ive never worked with things like avalanche transceivers and shovels and probes. It was fun to actually get outside and learn about how to use them. As for those ...
