Nature Sounds Of Toronto has no followers yet. Be the first one to follow.
There are no City of Toronto bylaws pertaining to backyard skateboard ramps that are on a scale of Noah's Ark. Normally one would assume that something like this COULD NOT, or WOULD NOT be built in a Toronto backyard against a Green Space setting. One should never assume... Who needs public skateparks? Why pay to go to commercial skateparks when you can build one in your own backyard??? No permit required, no size limits, no sound level limits, no time restrictions. In Toronto, It is easier to build a monster backyard skateboard ramp than it is to build a shed. Something is very wrong with this picture...
My friends and I were having a picnic in the rain in High Park in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on July 24th, 2010. I noticed an ant eating something (I soon realized it was a dead wasp) and started taking photos and video with my digital camera. The first ant was enjoying his meal for about 15-20 minutes before a second ant joined in. The first ant would take breaks from eating to clean himself, and allow the second ant to have his fill. I thought it was quite fascinating. The first clip in this video features the first ant, with his head stuck in the dead body of the wasp. It was aimlessly walking around, because it couldn't see anything. It's head was stuck for quite a while. It was kind of funny. The second clip features both ants feasting. I thought it was interesting that they didn't fight over it. Also, I muted the sound in this video because my camera picked up my nearby friends having conversations that I figured I shouldn't share with the world just to respect their privacy, y'know?

Christian accepts Islam after posing a question to Dr. Zakir Naik. Young, brave and confident Christian from the audience in Toronto challenges Dr. Zakir Naik on the divinity of Jesus (pbuh). By the end of Dr. Zakir Naik's answer, brother Patrick becomes convinced, accepts Jesus and Muhammad (peace be upon them both) as messengers of Allah (God in English) and embraces Islam. May Allah bless him and keep him steadfast, ameen. Amazing Shahadah with Zakir Naik during Q&A at Journey of Faith Purchase your Journey of Faith DVDs today: www.store.journeyconference.com ------------- The time has now come for you to use your reason and ask yourself How could Christ ("God"!) be in the womb of a created woman? Is the mother of this "God" (!) -- the Virgin Mary -- a creator or a created being? Who was crucified on the cross in the light of this belief that the divine was not separated from the human; was the divine crucified with him or did it leave him at the time of the crucifixion? Was the Lord God unable to find a way to forgive the sins of mankind except this repugnant way in which His only son was killed? Does God want to show mercy to mankind and for that reason He punished His son?! The time has come to think about the idolatrous ideas that Paul introduced to this religion, as he introduced the idea that Christ was created from the divine, after the Christians had been unanimously agreed that he was a created being, a slave or servant of God. Who is Christ according to the ...

June 9th, the Sound Academy, Toronto. (Sorry for the rather shaky nature of this video!) They played a lovely version of a Joni Mitchell classic! Nice tribute to a great Canadian while playing at their only Canadian tour stop ... although most people in the crowd were not familiar with the song. How sad.

"Take It Slow" is a jazz and hip-hop influenced song about a young man's journey through Toronto. Though this city is home to great art, talent and diversity, there are also broken families, violence and an overwhelming sense of loneliness. Gifty consciously explores the dual nature of city life and urges his listeners to "take it slow". Toronto's own singer/ producer/ songwriter, Gifty Singh is best known for his first independently release album Lovestreet. Gifty Singh strives to challenge what we are familiar with today by creating a new sound combining Jazz, R&B, Hip-Hop, Soft rock and Alternative giving it authenticity, sincerity and realism. Lovestreet is now available on iTunes! www.myspace.com/giftysinghmusic (the music) giftedmedia.blogspot.com (the blog) www.CreAction-Media.com Copyright 2009 Gifty Singh & CreAction Media Group.

Kristi Allik walks us through the installation of Skyharp: Gibraltar Point (2002). The work was commissioned by New Adventures in Sound Art for Soundtravels III concert series for the occasion. The work was installed on one of the Toronto Islands. This was a full Skyharp installation with new composition to accommodate the Island's Trembling Aspen, who were to be our performer. The young Aspen on the edge of Lake Ontario at Gibraltar point proved to be nervous and jittery as instruments (shy?) even in a good wind. In addition, the very subtle music that was generated was at times overshadowed by low flying F15s from the nearby Toronto air show.

Four of us made this little nine minute short during a span of ninety minutes on a property in Georgetown, Ontario. This video was made for Cameron Merrick-Braund's grade twelve film class as his final project for the year. Everything (pre-production, production, and post-production) was literally done in about nine days time and everything was extremely rushed. The story was conceived on day one, and a location was found by day three, thanks to our aunt, Carmen. A loose script was completed the night before shooting, where we took our cheap ass camcorder from Toronto to Georgetown with the intend of filming during twilight. Fake blood was made from lots of red food colouring, corn syrup, and (good ol' reliable) Nesquik chocolate sauce (I heard powder works, too). Some heavy ass rains interrupted most of our time there (thanks a lot, Mother Nature), so basically everything after the "Mr. Foe" encounter became ab libbed for the sake of battery life and natural lighting. All guns used are Airsoft guns. Post-production was started immediately and literally worked on (I cannot stress this enough) for four and a half days straight as we obsessed over getting all the little sounds right/synced. Using Windows Movie Maker was not fun and I feel pity for those who have to use it. Only allowing us to tac on one layer of sound at a time was extremely frustrating. It basically meant we had to make sure everything on one particular `wave of sound` was perfect before publishing the ...

"Cymatics: A Publisher's Overview of the Geometries of Creation": This impromptu video, shot on-site at Jeff Volk's book stall where Jeff greets the Toronto Dowsers at the 2008 American Society of Dowsers (ASD) Convention in Vermont, gives a brief overview of some of the exquisite material (not just the stuff he publishes) Jeff uses in his presentations to illustrate the universal principles of creation. Over the past two years, Jeff, who has published several books, films and other media about Cymatics [www.cymaticsource.com], has become a Convention favorite. His entertaining and informative presentation style and the fascinating video footage of Cymatics phenomena (first introduced by Hans Jenny), vividly portrays the relationship between frequency and form, shape and sound. Cymatics shows how inert powders, pastes and liquids will compose themselves into coherent, harmonic and occasionally life-like forms right before your eyes, as you listen to the sounds that are actually animating this incredible dance of creation. Cymatics, the study of wave phenomena and vibration, is a rare combination of exciting visual imagery and rigorous scientific method. Watching in amazement as the endlessly fascinating array of forms takes shape through the interaction of matter and vibration, one may begin to understand the principles of the creative process. Yet this is not simply metaphysical speculation; this is entirely replicable. If you use the same material (water, powder, paste ...

Kobe Bryant spent the fourth quarter on the Los Angeles Lakers' bench, content in watching the second unit blow the game open. The last thing on his mind was Wilt Chamberlain. This kind of trend - and attitude - has the defending Western Conference champions off to an NBA-best 14-1 record. Pau Gasol had 24 points and nine rebounds, Bryant had 23 points and a season-high seven assists, and the Lakers beat the Toronto Raptors 112-99 on Sunday night for their seventh straight victory. ``I think 10-5 would have been great with us, but we've been playing well enough to get that momentum,'' coach Phil Jackson said. ``Now we're just playing on momentum most of the time. [ ] ``It's human nature to get lackadaisical and for us to believe that things are going to go right for us because they have in the past. But we are only successful in the moment. And you have to prove it again and again, especially in sports.'' Bryant came 15 points shy of reaching the 22000-point mark faster than any other player. Had he done it, he would have beaten Chamberlain to that total by one day, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. ``To be honest, I don't follow anything of that sort. I just go out there and do what I do,'' Bryant said. ``I don't care about that stuff. You guys got me all wrong. I just play. I play hard, and I play the same way all the time. I never concern myself with milestones or anything like that.'' Jackson didn't sound so sure. ``Somebody put in the paper that Kobe needed 38 ...

Los Angeles - Abies Babies, as they are sometimes called, started out in Toronto like so many other bands, with hopes of one day becoming well known and respected musicians. It was at Club 813 that these four young boys would be discovered by the late Jack Morrow (Fat Mouth, Teenage Head). When Morrow first saw them they were performing in front of an all black crowd. He was overwhelmed by the energy coming off the stage, and the crowd's acceptance of the music. Band members Jimi Bertucci, Ron Bartley, Brian Cotterill and Bob McPherson were in for the surprise of their lives when Morrow asked producer Paul Gross (Phase One, Triumph, Rush, Saga etc.) to work with the group. Within weeks he and the group were writing and demoing songs. During the early 70's, Abraham's Children was led by founder and principal songwriter Jimi Bertucci. It was the writing skills of Jimi Bertucci and Ron Bartley that would pen some great classic songs still heard on radio stations today. Their first single, Hot Love, was released in 1970. Hot Love would later become the flip side to their 1972 hit Goodbye Farewell on GAS Records. It would be almost one year later before the release of their first international hit, Gypsy. Soon they would be recognized by record mogul Neil Bogart of the famous Buddha Records in the US who was quick to sign the band. The releases of Goodbye Farewell, Gypsy and Thank You confirmed that this was a group that would not go unnoticed. The release of their first album ...
Canadian bubblegum/rock band, popular in the 70's. From their only album, Time. Rare LP. Reissued on cd which is bound to become very rare as well. Abraham's Children Pop group formed in Toronto in the late 1960s with Jimi Bertucci (bass), Ron Bartley (guitar), Bob McPherson (keyboards) and Brian Cotterill (drums), and Shawn O'Shea (guitar) as of 1973. Known first as Captain Midnight's Dirty Feet, and later as Abraham's Children or simply The Children, the band played in Toronto clubs before being signed to Gas Records around 1972, and then to Buddha Records in the US. The band quickly became popular, largely for their energetic performance style, and played for large crowds, eg, at Toronto's Centre Island and Nathan Phillips Square, as well as on Canadian television shows such as Musical Friends and Canadian Bandstand. They began touring widely in Canada and the US. Their sound, initially verging on commercial "bubblegum," later evolved to classic rock. Their first single was the 1968 self-released "Hot Love," followed by "Goodbye Farewell" in 1972 (No. 10 in Canada on RPM's Adult chart) and its Italian equivalent, "Bye Bye Bambino Occhi Blue." Their sole LP, TIME, was released in 1973 (GLP 2001 Gas Records), and the additional singles "Gypsy" in 1973 (No. 5 in Canada, and a hit internationally) and "Goddess of Nature" in 1974. Bertucci (b Vincenzo Donato Bertucci, Calabria, Italy) and Bartley (b Verdun, Man) co-wrote many of the band's songs. Bertucci pursued a solo ...

Elijah Prophet - Piece Of Ganja Elijah Prophet was born and raised in Westmoreland, Jamaica, West Indies. At a young age, Elijah began singing under the mentoring of Garnet Silk and Uton Green. These years were spent in the cool hills of Parish of Manchester. At the time, Garnet Silk was unknown to the world of music and was djing under the name Bimbo. Singer Uton Green took on the dual role of godfather and teacher and remains to this day a mentor to Elijah. The next step was in 1991, when Garnett Silk would take Elijah to Courtney Coles Roof Talent Show every year and Elijah would sing with the band. These live appearances helped Elijah earn a reputation as a singer with a powerful voice and a strong stage performance. Elijah first visited a recording studio in 1996 with producer Jimmy Hinds. This session produced the singles Mr. Badman and Mankind. The same year, Elijah Prophet received the Best New Artist award in the Stone Love star search contest. This award caught the attention of other Jamaican producers, leading to a series of singles like: I Can See Dem, Burn Down The Walls Of Babylon and War A Gwaan. These conscious and often unapologetic nature of Elijahs lyric drew immediate attention especially in the recordings like Shatter, where a parallel is drawn between in the street gunman and police . When asked about this, Elijah responded: Look, it dosent matter who you are. Whether you got a license to kill or you dont have a license to kill, every man with gun is ...

Danbrook has released eleven CD's and performs concerts and presents workshops throughout North America and Japan. A Brief History of the Shakuhachi by David J. Duncavage www.emptybell.org Shakuhachi Master David Duncavage studied with Ronnie Seldin in America and Yoshio Kurahashi in Japan. David was Robert Jonas' first Sui Zen teacher. The shakuhachi is an end-blown bamboo flute varying from 1.3 to over 3 feet in length. It came into Japan from China at the end of the 7th century. From this period until as late as the 12th century it was used in gagaku (court music). Little is known of the music that was played on the shakuhachi at this time, although there are some flutes from this period preserved at Shoso-In in Nara, Japan. These flutes have 6 finger holes, and were made from thin walled bamboo. During the period between the 12th and 16th centuries, the shakuhachi ...
