"The Importance of Strategy in Stormy Times" was the title given by UNC Charlotte Chancellor Philip L. Dubois to his State of the University address during convocation on Aug. 17. With the state's ongoing budget constraints serving as the backdrop to his remarks, Dubois said one of his top priorities for the coming year will be to address the need to revise the University's five-year institutional plan.
ESPNU is a television channel that specializes in college sports, and is produced by, affiliated with and owned by parent network ESPN. ESPNU originates out of ESPN Regional Television's (aka ESPN Plus) Charlotte, North Carolina offices. The network was launched on March 4, 2005 from the site of Gallagher-Iba Arena on the Oklahoma State University Campus in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The network's first live event was a semi-final game of the Ohio Valley Conference men's basketball tournament that saw Southeast Missouri State University fall to Eastern Kentucky University. The network was launched as a response to upstart rival CSTV (now CBS College Sports Network). ESPN was also being investigated by the US Justice Department due to "warehousing" of college games from certain conferences, or signing a deal with a conference for all their games, but only televising a small number and not allowing the conference to make other arrangements for TV broadcasts. ESPN and XOS Technologies signed a partnership for college athletics websites to compete directly with CSTV's growing internet presence. On August 28, 2006, ESPNU launched a new SportsCenter spin-off dealing entirely with college sports. That show, called SportsCenterU, was originally scheduled to be broadcast from ESPN headquarters in Bristol, Connecticut, but ESPN changed its plans and the show originates from Charlotte. Mike Hall was the show's lead anchor until August 2007, when he left for the new Big Ten Network. The ...

It is important to me, as an instructor, to be able to cary out the tasks that I am asking of my students. If I can't do certain things correctly, then how can I expect my students to? It is with that sentiment that I find it necessary to post clips of my golf swing. Through working on my own swing, I have found the most success while working on proper fundamentals and impact. By utilitizng a sound lower-body pivot and understanding how the club is to strike the ball, I have been able to build an efficient and repeatable motion for myself. In a nut shell, it is my goal as an instructor to take the best approach in building the most efficient and repeatable motion for each individual student. Though the route we take may be unique to each student, the end goal is universal.

Duke football fans proved they see promise in the 2009 season over the weekend, when one of the largest crowds in recent years showed up to Wallace Wade Stadium to see the Blue Devils play Saturday. Wallace Wade hosted 33311 fans Sept. 5 for the home opener against University of Richmond. It was the largest number of fans at a Duke home game since the Blue Devils had 35206 fans on Nov. 3, 2001 against North Carolina State University. The crowd surpassed last seasons kick-off against James Madison University, which was attended by 32571 in Head Coach David Cutcliffes debut. The Duke Football program was ecstatic about the support provided by all the Duke employees, Cutcliffe said. The atmosphere of all the employees and their families brought to the stadium was excellent. We were disappointed in the outcome of the game, but not with the energy the Duke community provided to our team. As part of Dukes Employee Kick-Off Celebration, employees and their families reserved more than 22000 free tickets to the game and were treated to family activities like face painting, inflatable rides and a buffet prior to the game. Despite the large turnout, Duke fell to Richmond 24-16. Even still, Cutcliffe said he was pleased with the fan turnout, especially the large numbers of employees who attended. Tickets for the next home game against North Carolina Central University on Sept. 26 are now available. Faculty and staff can also purchase the Employee Athletic Pass, which provides tickets ...
